This what I call "calling card work" An impractical piece of work that nevertheless clearly shows the quality of the work that the craftsman is capable of.

That is an absolute masterpiece sir. I can't believe someone ordered it to use it. Not that it doesn't appear to be useable, quite the contrary! (Though I couldn't deal with the weight either) I think I might be content just to set it up and stare at it! Lol.
Don't sell yourself short. The thought, ingenuity and skill that went into building that is absolutely astounding. Well done.

To be honest I was a little shocked when I heard you saying 5 grand but this was the first video I have ever seen from you and when I saw the actual pack I inmediately knew why you was talking about that amount of money, because HOLY SH**!! that is an amazing peace of craftmanship, you should be proud brother!

  • @Samtzu

THAT is a work of art!! That is as close to bullet-proof design as I've seen on anything. It looks like every stitch, every cut was well thought out, including the substantial frame. Again, that is not "just" good craftsmanship... that is art.... well worth $5,000....

I've only just today come across your videos, and this one is 5 years old. Dude....I'm blown away by that pack! OMG!! The stitching, the matching of leather and color, the overall INSANE amount of work...I do leather work as a hobby, make the occasional belt, hat band, knife sheath, I also do wood working and used be a juried wood carver at a local gallery. While the average person may see that and think "oh that's nice", believe me when I say i can see the skill and time and artistry in every stitch and I KNOW you really can't ever get enough money for it. I used to sell wooden spoons for $30 apiece...but they took HOURS to make! Fun, but hardly cost effective. I hope five years later you are doing well and I know the owner of that pack must revel in it every time he takes it out. As will his great great grandchildren! Hell, even their kids! Rock on!

Truly a labor of love. That is a fantastic looking pack, one of a kind. Like you, I can't see me carrying a back that weighs 30 lbs. cause it's got to weigh at least 65 lbs. loaded! But I do like looking at it. But $2500.00 to $3500.00 or more for a backpack is just totally out of the question for me. But it is a work of art.

Dude - You are a true artist.
I'm a leatherworker myself but not at that level.
The stuff you do will last ages, my only concern on having leather bags/pouches for bushcraft is the weight of it. Leather is much heavier than canvas/nylon.
Regardless - your stuff looks awesome !!!

This is the most epic pack I’ve ever seen! Am I paying $5k for a 14kg leather pack…..? Hell no!
But this is still the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
And important data for me. I have a dream of walking the Bibbulmun track with a leather pack, natural clothing and bedding. And that’s not ideal, weight will be above factor and I’ve always known my leather pack design would be heavy.

Not only not gasping at the cost but telling you that a thing like that does not have a price. That is a piece of art, an artifact (as Dave puts it with good sense) that will be observed and studied in a hundred years as something that a rare class of people would make. A thing like that is unique and has to be super expensive, there is no other way. I do leather and the idea of confronting such a project makes me faint. That is a museum piece. You are the best out there.

What an absolutely amazing and stunning piece of craftsmanship. You sir should be extremely proud of the artesry that has gone into making this stunning piece of work. I'm not sure I would want to have to pack it to far personally if it already weighs that empty but I could see it mainly being packed by horseback or dog sled (or motorcycle or skidoo) as the primary means of carry then wearing it loaded for short distances and breaking it down when needed. I love it's modular design. I can see how it justifies a $5000 price tag but can't ever see an heirloom piece like this being in my budget and am jealous of the guy who can afford it. He is won lucky man.
