Hovercrafts are my favorite thing to build in Trailmakers and Scrap Mechanic. I almost never use hover blocks in Trailmakers though, because gyro thrusters and suspension is way more stable.
7:30 Hey, LoopKat here! Wow, I never expected one of my creations to be on a ScrapMan showcase, but my cargo trucks are some of my most popular uploads, so it makes sense that this was my first feature, lol. Some additional info for my cargo hover truck, for those who are interested: The auto-stop feature could've been much more powerful if I had used dragon engines, but I wanted to maintain that "clean" futuristic look (ie: I didn't want a bunch of smoke flying everywhere) and there's only so much space available in the body of the vehicle for mini thrusters (admittedly, I probably could've squeezed a few more in). The forward/reverse stabilization is noticeably more powerful because there are more thrusters available in those directions, but the side-to-side stabilization only has two thrusters on each side, which unfortunately just isn't enough thrust for anything more than a small hill (as ScrapMan found out). That said, the stabilization was added primarily for the sake of keeping the truck stable while "making deliveries", just a little thematic touch that made sense as I repeatedly watch the truck slowly glide away while it was supposed to be stopped, lol The hoverpads tilt in opposing directions to the turning direction because, from the start, I wanted to have the hoverpads angled for aesthetic reasons, but I quickly learned that this meant one side lost too much hover thrust while turning and the whole truck would wobble around. So, I set up the hinges to flex in the opposing angle of a turn to essentially keep the pads "leveled out" while turning to maintain equal hover thrust And lastly, I like to make my builds as fully-functional as possible, so I often add little things like openable doors and cockpit hatches. In the case of the hover truck (and its non-hover variant), it simply uses a few sensors to detect the player when they're in the driver seat. However, Trailmakers is weird and the invisible collision model of the player actually moves around a TON when you're in motion, so it's super easy for sensors to lose track of you beyond a certain speed. From my personal testing, you'd pretty much need 360 sensor coverage of a seat to get the best results, but your hitbox can still just phase through blocks if you're going fast enough, so even that isn't a 100% guarantee of tracking the player That said, thanks a bunch for the feature ScrapMan, it was fun to hear your thoughts on one of my creations and what you liked about it! If you ever wanna check out some of my other builds, I've recreated a number of ground and air vehicles from things like Halo, Borderlands, Star Wars, Batman, real life vehicles, etc. and I've also uploaded a bunch of other original designs like this hover truck, flying cars, hover bikes, combat vehicles, and all kinds of other stuff that you'd probably enjoy!
8:00 That's actually a good idea, for cargo if you lean away from the turn, it keeps things that are stacked together from falling over as easily. Ever held an open cup and leaned it slightly in the opposite direction the car is turning? If you leaned the cup to the turn, the contents would splash out. So it's clever that they, perhaps unintentionally, included that detail for cushioning. OFC, I am a fellow from the internet, so please do take my information with a grain of salt as there's always the chance I might be wrong, however, this is what I believe to be true, so if I happen to be incorrect, feel free to correct me.
What you described is leaning called leaning into the turn (tilt the cup to prevent it from spilling) but that wasn't what the truck was doing, it was leaning in the opposite direction
@@Egerit100 When people say leaning into the turn, I default to the bike definition for that, meaning the vehicle itself leans in the direction of the turn, for example leaning to the right when turning right. Of course, the meaning changes somewhat dependent on the vehicle. Fun Fact: One Vehicle that generally always leans into the turn is an aeroplane, cause they literally lean to turn. This literal joke is brought to you by Aeronautics.
@@KaneyoriHK I also default to the bike definition of leaning into a turn (the same direction as the turn) So planes have to do this because they don't have yaw (idk how it's spelled) some they have to roll and pitch instead I see no reason to further this discussion, I just think that you accidentally reversed the direction of leaning in the original comment
Creator of the cargo hover truck here, I wanted the default position of the hoverpads to be at an angle for aesthetic reasons, but I quickly learned that turning was very unstable because the pads didn't maintain an even level of thrust while turning. So, I made them flex in the opposing direction of the turn in order to prevent the whole vehicle from wobbling all over the place, which pretty much lines up with the liquid in a cup example that you gave. Gotta make sure everything is balanced!
Thank you for showing my build! It was inspired by Star Wars, but not an exact re-creation (from what I remember). As for the name, it just seemed like something you’d outrun some sort of sand worm monstrosity in…
That last one is my favorite. Design: 10/10. It looks awesome. Nothing else to say. Aerodynamics: 8/10. Seems pretty aerodynamic, seeming to be able to go in any direction without suffering slowness. Mobility: 9/10. It can go fast, fly, and is pretty small, which makes it able to go through things easily. Creativity: 9.5/10. It must've been hard to make it levitate that low. The flight mode is pretty damn unique, and it shortening makes it even cooler.
*Please do more changing-wheels races! You could make more wheels, but split the lap into multiple pit-stops for wheel-changing.* There are a lot of ideas you could implement. For example, you could have the wheels have their own engines or use controllers for movement, as well as having the wheels turn freely left and right (at least to a degree, with stoppers preventing them from being unusable), turn left and right semi-randomly (based on sensors, timers, and pulsing logic), wheels which move to the side, wheels with changing camber (including bottoming out, as an option), wheels which change the width of the vehicle (similar to the expanding wheels, or on a timer), wheels which use a toggle-logic with a timer to cycle between high-friction and low-friction or even no-friction, maybe even bigger wheels which detach when you go past a certain speed leaving behind smaller wheels, using pipes angled towards the ground (positive camber), and even rowing "wheels" which row the vehicle forward.
