One of the most infuriating things about Ham, was he rarely seemed to use Christie. I really hope the Lakers follow what Rob Pelinka said in that they expect Christie to get a much bigger role along with Knecht coming in.
Now i understand why watching Max defend was so confusing from game 2 game. Max bulked up a lot and still got ran thru all the time. If he can knock down 2-4 shots a game i think thatll help his confidende on D too
Great Points however, MaxC is Young Enough to Improve on His Weak Areas. And, bcuz AR/D’Lo are Par/Subpar Defenders, We have to put Max on the Court with AR or D’Lo so, He will have to guard The Best Guard when He’s on The Court.
FAX... Lo gotta go tho - 39% CAREER playoff fg, plus no D! Let LBJ run point forward just like Olympics, w AR/Max starting. Get Davis the BIGMAN he needs for matchups agaisnt Embiid, Joker, Minn Twin Towers etc
@@schmitkeoriginals - I like LBJ @ Point Forward and bcuz not a lot of opposing PF are pic(k)in’ up Full Court, LBJ shouldn’t have to work that Hard to push the Ball up the Court and ideally get the Offense Started.
Max is thriving now… His defense and physical prowess have improved tremendously. His getting better and better offensively. WTG Max Christie. Keep on working on your game and get better young gun 💪
Max is young and definitely has strengths and weaknesses but the other guard defending options or AR/Dlo/GV I think he’s our best option tbh and the minutes need to reflect that.
Once (IF!) Max gets some PT under his belt - as well as a little more bulk, I would expect all that bully-ball on him to stop. Refs have yet to recognize the forearms to his chest. Rookies never get that call. Max has energy and length though on his side so my guess is once (IF!) the playing field is leveled a bit, he will be one of the top perimeter defenders in the league. He needs some PT (and patience) though. Key.
I think they've increased ballhandler contact when you move with the ball handler to offset court size so it should be easier to play on ball D if you move your feet but ballhandlers will have more space to operate.
Starters Bench : C-AD C-Wood F-Lebron F-Rui F-Knecht F-Christy G-Vando G-Reaves G-Dlo G-Vincent What you think about this eventual lineup? After Knecht proves he light out and Vando proves his worth when paired to protect Dlo on his defensive weaknesses??? Dlo and Knecht being the 3 point shooters Bron needs and AD and Vando doing it all on Defense
Thanks for the breakdown. It's really frustrating to see how people dismiss him so quickly because he's being bullied by a bigger wing. Do you think another year will mean more strength to handle the ones bumping into his chest? Or will he be able to handle the shifty guards better because of more playing time? Which of these weaknesses will more likely stay or go away this coming season?
He should naturally get stronger as he gets older, making it harder to bump him off of his spot with forearms and shoulders, but I don't know how much of that happens this upcoming season. Reps should help with the shiftier guards to a degree. A lot of times when a player first gets playing time they're overeager, and will bite on every fake. That goes away a bit with experience and as the game slows down for a player. But that's also just his natural disadvantages against certain guys. If he's guarding a bunch of 6'2" or 6'3" guys, he's gonna get beat with speed sometimes, that's just the tradeoff you get when you put a 6'5" or 6'6" player in that sort of matchup. Similar deal with his strength. Sure, he'll get stronger as he gets older, but he's tall and lean and as a result will always be somewhat vulnerable to a well-placed forearm to the chest if the player is strong enough.
The frustrating part is his weakness on isolation D is against moves they're not even supposed to be allowed to do, they all go into his chest then use the off arm to create separation. It sux to have to tell him get stronger to contain illegal moves. The game has become too skewed for offense imo
He’s not very quick so his shortcomings can be addressed with playing time which will help his defensive IQ. He kind of reminds of a guard version of Kyle Anderson on defense.
Or just use d-Lo in 2nd unit and play all the non bron minutes. Let him be a Jamal Crawford Lou Williams type guy who averages 15+ off the bench and allows lebron to play fewer minutes
He Should be with Vando in the Starting unit… Dlo & AR can’t be the Backcourt together it’s not it defensively…. I think AR should be the 6th man and pair up with Gabe
Happy to see the actual film room back
Max hitting the weight room this offseason will do wonders!
One of the most infuriating things about Ham, was he rarely seemed to use Christie. I really hope the Lakers follow what Rob Pelinka said in that they expect Christie to get a much bigger role along with Knecht coming in.
Building himself physically is his biggest need. He needs to follow the Randle and Caruso example.
Love the theoretical framework of these set of videos!
Love it that your back man, more stuff like this.
Now i understand why watching Max defend was so confusing from game 2 game. Max bulked up a lot and still got ran thru all the time. If he can knock down 2-4 shots a game i think thatll help his confidende on D too
Great video. I absolutely love Max. I think he can be a Danny Green level role player at least
Great Points however, MaxC is Young Enough to Improve on His Weak Areas. And, bcuz AR/D’Lo are Par/Subpar Defenders, We have to put Max on the Court with AR or D’Lo so, He will have to guard The Best Guard when He’s on The Court.

he's soo damn young, and strength and learning how to use his chest when offensive players use theirs will develop in time
Another awesome analysis Pete!
Thank you Aya Bella!
welcome back! we miss this content!
I've been really high on Max last season but darvin never used him well.
Hopefully JJ will use him more so we can see his potential
Great work, Pete.
Thank you for this!!!
Really nice scouting report. Informative.
Max is thriving now… His defense and physical prowess have improved tremendously. His getting better and better offensively. WTG Max Christie. Keep on working on your game and get better young gun 💪
This is what lakers need, defense win championships, show them MAX!
Start Max Christie!
Love it
Graphics look sweet
Thanks man finally found some lower thirds I like
Max is young and definitely has strengths and weaknesses but the other guard defending options or AR/Dlo/GV I think he’s our best option tbh and the minutes need to reflect that.
Love this stuff!
Great work here Pete. I think Max is ready to be a 25 minute guy. Definitely look forward to it. Hope to see him in that late season Prince role.

Facts most of those plays were offensive fouls that did not get called. A lot of those guys were pushing off on Max Christie.

I believe Max will have a breakout season next yr .
Starters Bench :

christie gets that consistent 3 ball and we have our starter. allows reaves to come off the bench

He's a good defender but he lacks experience because of inconsistent playing time
he just needs to get stronger he will def be good
2:07 kyrie doulbe 3ple- 2blehesitation
So how can he improve ? Juget stronger? What can he do against super shifty guys?

Max is very good in defense and he is so young. Beside Vando, he will be one of the best in NBA.
AR/Max should start... trade Lo for a bigman to help AD, let LBJ run point forward. 💯💯💯

shoutout lfr
Hes getting better every year!
But now watch maxc defense
