Based on your reviews, I bought a similar Acer Spin 714 and it really is fantastic. Although it launched before Chromebook Plus, it has been upgraded to be a Plus model now.
I just got this one a few days ago and I've been loving it so far. by far the fastest Chromebook I've ever used and the first time that I can honestly say that a Chromebook has a computer experience comparable to that of any mid-range windows laptop. any college student would absolutely love to have this as their primary computer, highly recommend!
@@aliasgharkhoyee9501 there are definitely fans in it, but you hardly noticed them (They only really spin up while you're first setting it up). it's about 3.5 pounds, and it definitely feels a bit heavier than Chromebooks I've used in the past, but nothing too crazy
Watching on my new Lenovo Flex 5i! So far I love it! Really liking the 16:10 aspect ratio and the processor seems to be really fast. It wouldn't seem like it but the screen at 300 nits is much better than my old Asus at 250 nits. Plus, at $379.00 at Best Buy I feel it's well worth it! I appreciate the work you guys do. Thank you.
I also have this chromebook (but with 256GB SSD fingerprint reader and pen). I wonder if the screenbrightness is correct from Lenovo, cause I have an older Acer with 300nits, and its way brighter (both laptops have a touchscreen). I have used Lenovo laptops at work (Windows machines) and the screen has always been really dark, so I've never been able to use them at summer outside for example, so maybe its Lenovo overrepporting the nits, or they measure it in a different way.
@@Chockster612 Can only imagine that was a big change :) I had a bit newer Chromebook, but It feels really fast compared to the old one. It even feels faster than my desktop PC on the web (Ryzen 5600x)
I bought a Chromebook out of curiosity in this year’s Black Friday Sales. A hideously named ASUS Chromebook Plus CX3402CBA (at 239 Great British Pounds)… So far, I’m impressed by what I got for the money. It mostly just works in a very unfussy manner with very decent performance. For software development, the whole Linux container setup is very straightforward. Oh, and when docked I can use it with my external Logitech webcam without switching on my monitor mounted lighting! That Google AI goodness isnt just for the (very good) built in HD webcam!
No pressure...but I'm planning on using my holiday bonus on getting this one in three weeks based on your review. I've been eyeballing it for about two months since your original video detailing what Chromebook Plus is.
Got mine yesterday. I like it but the speakers are weak. Had to add Volume Master extension which solves that problem. Unit is fairly heavy. Hinges seem well made. Really like the keypad backight for using at night. Charging is very fast. Couldnt find one on sale, paid $476 on Amazon. I've got 30 days to return in case I see it on sale, maybe Best Buy. Wish I could have waited but my six year old Samsung Chromebook got coffee spilled in it and some of the keys stopped responding. It stopped getting updates a year ago so I needed a new device anyway. The Lenovo will get updates till June 2032.
I've been curious about this too given the current Best Buy prices. The fact that the HP has twice the storage (256gb) is tempting, but I've had the original Lenovo Flex 5 for about three years now and still love it.
My girlfriend bought that laptop, used it for a few days but it was not a good experience. The display looks super cheap and the laptop kept getting stuck in tablet mode, so the keyboard and track pad wouldn't work. She ended up returning it and getting the Acer spin 714. Much better for not much more money.
The only bad thing about Chrome and Google is two thing's Google Docs in that case you cannot do work like apple pages or event Microsoft Word like design special projects and other things. Other bad thing is film editors cannot edit in premier pro or daVinci
CHROME UNBOXED I'd love to see you all do a video on the fan topic which becomes a bigger consideration with the 8gb models. I did extensive research and got the 5i but returned it when that fan started working. Had no idea it had a fan. I don't think 8gb is necessary either. Seems to be a decent issue on reddit too
wierd, I commented this before, but my comment is gone? I will repeat my answer. My Lenovo Ideapad 5 flex came with an USI pen, the ones that dont should say "Pen upgradeable" meaning you can buy a USI pen and it works.
After 2 months of daily use, I would not recommend this model. the chromebook will always assume I want to be in tablet mode and there is no clear other way to take it out of tablet mode than plugging in a usb or external cable. This is quite inconvenient. The hinge also is unstable and is already rocking a bit. speakers are quiet but it is true that the screen is beautiful! keyboard feels nice but the trackpad is quite awkward. I will be surprised if the hardware of any Flex 5i outlasts the 10 years of software updates.
My Flex 5i came with a screen pen. It works ok but isnt magnetic and doesnt have any sort of clip, which is a but disappointing. My i3 model gets nowhere near 10 hours battery, its lucky to get 4 hours web browsing.
Nice to see a MicroSD card slot on a Chromebook Plus laptop. Not seen one before. Your voice sounded almost normal. Wouldn't have been able to tell if you had a rough voice if you didn't say anything.
5g sim card slot or tray is there ? Or only wifi? and if internet outages does it affect performance in any way? And finally will it replace my traditional laptop ?
What about the linux terminal on chromebooks. I had a cb like 2 years ago and it was great for youtube etc. But the linux terminal was still beta and very old version of debian. Has this improved now to a full capable linux subsystem?
I have this chromebook, a big warning!. There are 2 versions, one that is ok, and then there is the one I have.. same specs except for the display. My hast 45% NTSC display so the colors are not accurate at all. Red is more orange, and everything has a yellow tint.
Can add, that I dont mind the colors, it looks ok, but I would never do any type of design work on it, but its fast and snappy!. Also have a real PCIE 4.0 NVME, but of the not that common 2242 format.
Found a bad thing, it seems to only charge fast with lenovo charger. If i use my acer charger it says 22 hours charge 😅 meanwhile my acer charges fast with lenovo charger..
The name is 5i but the processor is i3? Is that supposed to be misleading? Please try laptops on your lap, preferably wearing shorts. This seems to have the same problems as the ASUS plus CX34, which I returned: sharp edges and corners and protrusions.
@@kimnilsson7501I am specifically looking for a Chromebook that is the best for coding and running wordpress. Any particular Chromebook Plus model you would recommend?
Its $267 open box excellent condition at best buy today and mehhh still doesn't seem worth it. I want great sound and better brightness, not a fancy webcam.
A bit underwhelming. I am sure schools will like it, although most have already bought their supplies, so Chromebook sales are severely declining. This "Plus" rebranding is unlikely to resurrect sales, but some quality control was needed as many people buying Chromebooks were disappointed, and now they can buy the Plus variant knowing it has average to better specs.

Is it fanless? And how much does it weigh?

I wish screen brightness was a criteria. That's more important to me than the webcam for instance
