A bunch of phd student in computer science are behind it and as explain in this video, it serves a purpose in the blockchain technology. You have to make your own research about cryptocurrencies, and diversify the sources where you're getting knowledge about it. So the thing is, to invest money on it and have faith that in the future, the value will go high so that you can profit from it.
I know this a rather dated video but I held on to about 1000 ZIL. It gives 15% interest too. It has staking issues sometimes however. But its worth keeping.
