For me it just speaks volumes for his character. To have this much talent taken away yet still able to find a fantastic path in life. Would love to meet him.
8 years later. Will always watch Martyn vids. - Amazing. The word 'legend' is over used in cycling. But right from my early days growing up with MTB'ing - Eary MBUK mags, Mint Sauce cartoons, and of course Mr Ashton on mag covers... Now despite all that happened he's still involved in cycling, still one of the biggest names, and still one of the most respected dudes. Genuine legend right there.
Maestro Martyn is a genius. And I know he will not let things down. he is trying so hard not to quit sports. That's what I call determination!!! Good on you Martyn!!
I remember watching this when I was like 12, my Dad showed it to me, and I was absolutely blown away. He actually inspired me to start riding bicycles again. I was pretty shocked when I learned what happened, very hard to watch this without feeling sad.
he did what he loved and got paid for it and had his accident. now he's still doing bike stuff maybe not on the same level but he's still involved and thriving. unfortunate yes but cruel no. you should watch his Tedtalk titled In Disaster There is Opportunity it will change your perspective. He has amazing friends like Rob Warner who has been his side from the instant of his accident and other legends of MTB
@@nanezferrer3565 he had an accident doing one of his routines and had a mishap one of his stunts and is now paralyzed. he is with GMBN and is still involved in the industry.
@@endebtedone I don't know if I would say it's not cruel. I'm sure Martyn himself would wish it never happened, though I'm sure he tries not to dwell on it.
I'm not shocked, and no, they got (I believe) one pinch puncture and that's it. It's of no surprize whatsoever. If you charge fullweight into a kerb, you can expect even the forks to give up. If you let off even a minimal amount of weight, only the bike's weight will be thrusted into the kerb, so there's literally no chance of the bike breaking, and a low chance of a puncture.
Its a video, it takes multiple take per scene, and probably used multiple bikes, maybe even multiple riders. did you even see the face of the rider? could be a robot , CGI :D
the awesome thing about learning this kind of control on a road bike means those occasional weird obstacles you get riding in the city become fun to get around. last night, I was riding around in a skatepark bowl. It was so fun, but this is something else...
when doing stunts like this haveing cleats on is asking to break a leg. I know... I broke my femur and hip doing stunts on a mtb with cleats on Jan 3rd 2014. happy new year to me.
***** i feel stupid watching these guys because i broke my collarbone hitting a small 2 inch curb i didnt know was there on a night ride. didn't know you could jump these bikes like bmx bikes lol
I feel really bad for him but still he looks like he enjoys life even with his disability I miss these videos but also just an add on how many punctures did the bike get when filming this
I want to thank the uploader for sharing the video with us, as I was just too worried tonight about the durability of the carbon road bikes, as I am 93 kg and fear a crack while driving.I can buy a 3 years old Wilier Full carbon with Campagnolo chorus at a very good price but this is what is stopping me - one road bump, one crash and the bike might be gone. What do you guys think?
I used to be a really good windsurfer. I remember once I took a 12 foot race board with a 6 meter race sail out in 6 foot surf and 18 knot wind, and my friend kept telling me, "you can't do that! You need your wave board!" I was duck jibing the thing and pirouetting and getting like 10 foot airs. He keeps saying it. I keep sailing. That big board actually had some advantages. It carried so much speed I could out run the waves. It was great. I was lucky I didn't break the mast though! hahaha
The carbon frame is incredibly strong, the wheels would probably go first. But he's so good and his form is impeccable so he absorbs a lot of the energy with his body. He probably gets the bikes for free anyway.
ho shit man, it's a really cool video!!! i stunt with a mtb or a dirt and a little with a race bike, but your style and level is very good!!! congratulation man!!
I haven't been impressed by a bike video in a long long time, but that was insane! Bet ya blew threw a few bills worth of rims, but worth every penny:)
WOW! I wonder if he learned on a regular trials bike and just decided to try it on his road bike. Amazing! bikeradar If you read this comment could you please answer my question?
So weird that I stumbled across this vid and I'm in porthcawl right where he was riding the rocks! Such a cool guy and if a had 2 %of his skill I'd be a lucky man!!
Holy cow!!! that last stunt right at the end was at Poole Dolphin Shopping centre, when were you there? and were you just promoting this or something else?
.GOIL!!
@ImaYam I have that wheel-set. I went over a pot-hole and it turned into a potato chip immediately. I was running 700x28 that day. Mavic is fine if you're riding on glass, but in the city I think they're more of a liability than anything else. 36 spokes. 3 cross. 700x35. My wheels / tires are tank-treads. Large and unstoppable.
Haha.. this was cool to see! He's crazy :) Inspiring too.. if you are enough good at something, you can achieve great things with whatever equipment you use..
For me it just speaks volumes for his character.
To have this much talent taken away yet still able to find a fantastic path in life.

Genuine legend right there.
its real shame what happened :( luckily he is super positive guy and keeps rocking on.
so true
Just wanted to write the same!
So glad he kept enjoying his live.
Awesome guy!
Life happens....we adapt.
He just happens to be better at it than the rest of us.
It kind a makes me sad, that he can't do it anymore :/ awesome video and awesome skills, my full respect, Martyn.
Maestro Martyn is a genius. And I know he will not let things down. he is trying so hard not to quit sports. That's what I call determination!!! Good on you Martyn!!
The rider is Martyn Ashton. He's a hero of a trials rider. Have a search for him on TH-cam for a treat.
I remember watching this when I was like 12, my Dad showed it to me, and I was absolutely blown away. He actually inspired me to start riding bicycles again.
I was pretty shocked when I learned what happened, very hard to watch this without feeling sad.
It's not the bike, it's the rider.
Living inspiration,my greatest admiration for this legend ....random tandem is the most inspirational thing,I love this dude.
I can't enjoy this any more... how cruel life is.
is he dead ? how ?

@@Candesce you should watch the TedTalk titled In Disaster There is Opportunity. What I said will make sense.
哈哈,视频的背景音乐响起让我回到了大学时代~好多年前看的视频居然又刷到了~
Possibly the first Road Bike Party?
Wow... Of all the MTB, BMX, Freeride and Downhill vids I've always seen this is one video that amazes me the most
he is now with the GMBN crew
so lucky to have such a person still rocking!!
I'm shocked the tires and rims made it through the whole ride.
They probably changed them
I'm not shocked, and no, they got (I believe) one pinch puncture and that's it.

Trials on a road bike = mind blown
Amazing stuff!!!
Legend. Thanks....
I’m so upset he can no longer do it but I will always value him as a GMBN presenter full respect my friend full respect.
I woulda shit my pants and ate pavement trying to creep down that drop.
same reaction here, mate.
Best bicycle movie I've seen all year, amazing rider!
I wonder how often he has to true the wheels?
I've watched this video for several times and it is still EPIC!!!!!
Road bike can do that?
2019 nothing comes close to this guys talent.
The end part was at the Dolphin Shopping Centre - I live near there :D
2 frames, 3 sets of wheels and 493 pinch flats later... we have this video. Nice riding man. Skillz
Sagan who?
?
Thanks. Have you see our interviews with Martyn? There's more riding in those. Both videos are linked in the description above.
젠장~ 할말을 잃게 만드는군. 사이클로도 이렇게 되는거구나.
what makes this extraordinary is the way he took ordinary equipment to out-of-ordinary place.
Seriously bad song selection
the awesome thing about learning this kind of control on a road bike means those occasional weird obstacles you get riding in the city become fun to get around. last night, I was riding around in a skatepark bowl. It was so fun, but this is something else...
This strikes me as a very bad idea. Lol
you might be right... unfortunately he is on a wheelchair right now :(
Some of it was filmed down that way we seem to remember. Some is Bristol and other places
Whats the music name?
Guilherme Lopes tonight by fox avenue :)
Your the best person I've saw do tricks on a road bike and to be honest there isnt a lot of people who do tricks on a road bike anyway u are the BEST
awful music
..The man's a Legend.!...and best presenter on GMBN.....
He doesn't even have gloves or cleats not a real cyclist like me!
when doing stunts like this haveing cleats on is asking to break a leg.
I know... I broke my femur and hip doing stunts on a mtb with cleats on Jan 3rd 2014. happy new year to me.
Joking mate. Amazed in what he does.
Broke an ankle after hitting a kerb, so definitely no stunt riding for me...
*****
i feel stupid watching these guys because i broke my collarbone hitting a small 2 inch curb i didnt know was there on a night ride. didn't know you could jump these bikes like bmx bikes lol
Are you kidding? This guy is a legend. Don't dare compare yourself to him.
I feel really bad for him but still he looks like he enjoys life even with his disability I miss these videos but also just an add on how many punctures did the bike get when filming this
You can tell at certain points the track jumps like it wouldnt do normally, all the same brilliant video

I remember him and Martin Hawes riding that massive rock slab at 2:38 in one of their trials videos they made for MBUK.
Dude. You're CRAZY!! Crazy good, that is.

Legend says he went through seven wheels, 4 tubes, and one shifter lever at the end.
I haven't been impressed by a bike video in a long long time, but that was insane!

Didnt realise how pro he atch is
WOW! I wonder if he learned on a regular trials bike and just decided to try it on his road bike. Amazing! bikeradar If you read this comment could you please answer my question?
without a doubt! This isn't what roadbikes are made for - but it looks cool.
A lot of editing but still amazing. I bet I had to change his tyres a few times throughout that video!
So weird that I stumbled across this vid and I'm in porthcawl right where he was riding the rocks! Such a cool guy and if a had 2 %of his skill I'd be a lucky man!!
what a champ. more more more!
Really amazing!
