Ms. Velile my not being a south african but having a longing and close affinity to the culture , presents me with one question. Do people get nervous about so much power over land being vested in one person. The village chief. I saw a documentary that some chiefs are bending under pressure from unscrupulous real estate developers in the countryside. Also here in upstate n.y. people try to DISCOURAGE migration and development of the rurals. Those who were born in the rurals move away so as not to face the suburban blight that comes with development. But the fact is s.a. has so much land it makes one dizzy.

Those people don't know that, whether you finished paying your house in urban areas but you will always, for the rest of your life pay someone in the form of services, what happens when you can't pay for services?

How wonderful that you can have access to land and community. Land in the cities has gotten too expensive. I wish I could also do this, haha, but as a white South African I guess I don't qualify as part of a tribe... only expensive title-deeded land for white south africans, if you don't inherit it or make a fortune some other way, not many ways of getting land. Thankyou for sharing and giving insight into these processes.

You are very very wrong, a white person can buy land under the chief too. I've seen it happen, but a majority of you are afraid to do it, You do not want to live in a place that has a majority of black people , now it makes u feel better to assume u can't buy the land under the chief, if u really want it u can, There is no place in SA where a white person can't live, They are the ones that isolate themselves then lie and say they are not wanted.

We can all agree land is an asset, I think those who refer it as a liability they looking at maintainance costs you incurr whilst away e.g caretakers, workmanship, security, utility bills, etc. One constantly spends on such a property way more than what they budgeted for without generating income from it

We maintain our houses so that the value don’t depreciate. Everyone does that whether in urban or rural areas. That is what one do when they have assets. What I don’t understand is why people look down on the value of property in rural areas. Thank you for your insight. 🙏🏾❤️

What about those born and raised in the city ; whose parents were never affiliated with the rural areas but are now looking to do a rural development? How does that work?

It sounds easy but it's a bit complicated due 2 ur cultural practices ie if i am married as a daughter i can't claim my parents land only my brothers & their kids wil inherit.

I am married and I did inherit my parents homestead after they passed away. I have a brother who is also married and he allowed me to inherit it and told the chief it should be in my name. I have showed a video on this channel of a woman who also acquired land and she is divorced. These days it’s getting better. 🙏🏾❤️

Legislation in South Africa dictates that children of the same parents who are deceased have an equal claim to their parents’ estate. If the local chief goes against that legal dictate, the disadvantaged can approach the courts for a fair solution.

    Good morning Velile.
    Great content as usual.
I was trained traditional leaders on The law on Domestic violence. They told me that they don't want to be called chiefs because the term chief has colonial connotation. What is your view?
