She is a real singer. She's standing there just like every singer that's appeared on First take. The only difference is she's using her model and she's wearing a mocap suit to capture her movements.

As others have said, Suisei is a real singer by the name of Hoshimachi Suisei who was there singing during filming. Vtubers use motion tracking and, in the case of 3D situations like this, motion capture to bring an illustrated character to life in real-time. Suisei has used this same type of 3D model to perform live concerts, some of which have been in front of live audiences. In fact, her new album, "Specter", released yesterday and this weekend she will be doing a live 3D concert for a live audience in Japan using this exact character model. In the case of Suisei and all of the Hololive members, the person you hear doing the vocal is also the person doing the motion tracking for the model. They're an incredibly talented group of artists that are very much worth checking out. The awesome thing about Vtubers, however, is if you have someone that is a great singer but may not be able to necessarily move well enough for dancing and whatnot, they can still put on a performance like this. Ironmouse from VShojo (another Vtuber agency like Hololive) recently did a full 3D concert providing the vocals for her character despite having a chronic illness that keeps her largely bedridden (though she's making a lot of progress to regain her strength as of late). Being a Vtuber allows people to present themselves how they want to be presented to the world and it's a very freeing experience. Many people that have become Vtubers have been able to achieve their dreams of being singers, dancers, and other types of artists, entertainers, and content creators that they likely would never have been able to have done otherwise if they'd had to put themselves on camera. Suisei herself is evidence of this given that when she first started out, she was trying to break into the Japanese idol business and saw nothing but rejection. Eventually, she decided to create her own 2-dimensional Vtuber avatar, illustrating and animation rigging it herself, to become an independent Vtuber. She was eventually signed by the Hololive talent agency's now-defunct music label, INNK Music, in 2019 before being transferred to the main Hololive branch later that year and now has two full albums to her name and has done many live 3D concert performances.
Thanks for taking the time to watch Suisei. I hope that you'll continue checking out more of her stuff and maybe other music from some of the other amazingly talented Hololive artists. I highly recommend checking out Tokoyami Towa and Tsunomaki Watame from Hololive Japan, Ayunda Risu from Hololive Indonesia, and Calliope Mori and Takanashi Kiara from Hololive English, just to name a few.

There are lots of fantastic vtubers, not all focus on singing, but those that do are very good such as Suisei, Mori Calliope, and Watame. Even the ones that don't have a couple amazing songs like Moona Hoshinova's High Tide. Most do vtubing for privacy reasons, especially with recent issues around stalking etc. Most keep their original identify very hidden, but not all - and even if we do know, we keep it quiet for the reason and contract reasons.

As they said, totally a real singer using (I presume) motion capture + AR along with her fill-in avatar. Hololive is an agency for vtubers and has a stronger slant toward music than most other vtuber agencies. Several talents like Suisei, Watame, Calliope, Okayu, AZKi, Sora, IRyS, etc all have an album worth of music or more while a number of other talents have 1~6ish original songs. There is a whole lot of talent in the group and we're happy Suisei got the chance to do this and break through a bit of stigma that vtubers have and show people that they are serious artists! I definitely recommend checking out more from Suisei or some of the others like Watame ("My Song" is lovely) Okayu or any of the others.
Ironically for Okayu, she almost quit when they wanted her to do more idol stuffs. She joined as part if gamers and that's all she wanted to be. But she gave it a try and now she loves it.
@@AnimeSquirrel That was a rumor and has been debunked. Okayu basically felt she didn't fit with everyone else as she wasn't confident in her voice or ability to perform but came to the conclusion, she wants to do her best to give back to her supportive fans. There was no talk from Okayu that she thought about quitting because they asked to do more idol stuff.
