I like to buy beautiful single plates like that because when I am invited for dinner or to someones house for a potluck I will bring a dessert on the plate and gift the plate to the hostess.

I thought that plate was gorgeous! It had a beautiful art nouveau design and being a cake plate (the two small cutout handles on either side) means it was meant to be a "singleton."

Jocelyn, your true personality shines through again in this video in deciding you didn’t need those things and someone else would! So sorry about The Paradise Lost book, Andrew; as a book nerd myself, I would be livid. You handled it really well. Good idea to put them in a locked case. The spines become so much more delicate with age and improper handling. Your booth and case look great!. I LOVE corvids! I have a family of four ravens I feed every day and they bring a few crow friends sometimes. I give them about 4 slices of wheat bread (88 cents at walmart. Lol), 1 scoop of purina dog food small bites and a couple of times a week a can of tuna. They come every day. When I go out on the deck to feed the small birds and squirrels I call them, "Hey Nova family (I named the big daddy raven Nova)! Time to eat!" and I can hear them far off somewhere start calling out and then they show up. It's so awesome. I've heard that some people who feed them get gifts from them. 😊

Just wanted you to know that crows (or corvids) are highly intelligent. They will remember those people who are friendly to them and pass the word around to the whole crow community. If you are really special to them sometimes they will bring you gifts of shiny baubles and things they find along their way. So...it's always nice to befriend a crow. Not for the gifts but for the friendship. Thanks for sharing your trips with us. ❤

Probably the line wasn’t moving because people were negotiating the prices. Those were ridiculous high prices. A local Goodwill cannot expect eBay values.

    • @susanma4899
      @susanma4899 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The line at one of my goodwills is notoriously slow. You can't negotiate a price unless there is damage to the item, if that. The reason the line is slow is that a very old lady runs the register, and she just moves slowly. She also chats with each person as they go up. It's nice, but not when there's ten people in line, smh!

@Adam SR It’s interesting you say that because I see it the other way. I don’t look at Goodwill employees as Karens and Kens (is that ever going to end?). I look at some of the shoppers as that. Everyone is watching videos and planning how to get rich bullying and berating employees in stores. Obviously this is only a fraction of shoppers but I have seen it firsthand. Years ago I don’t know if anyone even resold things from there, or if it was appropriately priced items for those needing a bargain. Now a lot of thrift groups won’t shop there because they feel it fuels money toward a wealthy CEO. I

That's generally why places like Goodwill and Salvation Army won't sell untagged items - the clerk will generally undervalue the piece, and people will remove tags just for that reason. I worked at a Salvation Army and we'd just send items back to the warehouse to be retagged and redistributed.

What a great booth!! That sun and moon ring!! Swooooon!!!! We have ravens where I live. Oh my goodness! I have that exact scale minus the gold part, in my kitchen!
My son (the zoo keeper and trainer) raised a miriad of different animals (mostly birds) when he was growing up. When he had an egg that was cracked or hadn't been collected the day before he would put it outside the fence for his favorite raven. That raven started sitting on the telephone pole on the end of our street and knew our car (red minivan). He would follow us as we drove to our house. They're so darn smart!

I walked out of my local Goodwill yesterday, leaving my one would-be purchase on a shelf. Too many people with big orders and I just didn't want it that badly. Just as well; today I found something to use for the same purpose for a quarter. Hard to argue with 25 cents!

02:02 Yay! That could go with the house and storefront that you bought the other month. Even with the awning damage, you can begin to build your downtown.
02:40 With the umbrella and the falling pets, obviously it is raining cats and dogs!
03:02 I should venture that it's a Sunbonnet Sue coat rack for a kid's bedroom.
03:59 With that many scars on it, I think you have a well-used marble cheese board there. It'd want a good resurfacing before it would be safe for food use again.
04:20 I didn't know Anchor Hocking made anything that wasn't glassware.
07:06 it's a pretty example, but OMG it must weigh a ton. $30 is not an absurd price to ask for a bowl of that size, but that price doesn't leave you any room.
07:45 This is an intriguing pair of marks. The red Charles Field Haviland mark means 1900 to 1941, but I don't know exactly what to make of it in conjunction with the green Gérard, Dufraisseix and Abbott mark. (There's some confusing ownership changes at the end of the 1800s.) What information I can find makes me think that the GDA mark in conjunction with the Haviland mark puts the age of these pieces before World War I.
07:58 They're a great big family of cockeyed Spaniards.
09:00 Oh my, yes. I remember doing the research on that mark, and discovering that it makes the piece be a big bunch of nothing.
12:09 A missing Hamilton Beach cup is an easy piece to replace. Restaurant supply stores carry them.
15:41 I am _taken_ with the bullfight poster! It would've been a good day's fighting, too. Joselito Mendez later gained a rep as a daredevil, "suicide" matador, and this is probably Pollo Galván's first appearance after he was gored the previous May. … and they're both being billed as "novilleros" - newbies, who had not yet earned the rank of full matador. Since this poster is in English, it would have been put up on the El Paso side of the border.
18:41 Well, sh*tfire. It flies all over me when people don't understand that hundred year old leather, and especially hundred year old leather that hasn't been fed, is crazy fragile and tears at the least bit of excess force. This is how to make a bookdealer go grey. (There are other ways, but this is one of them.)

Thanks for sharing Andrew's case and space on your video. I mean WOW! Andrew has a fantastic eye for antiques!! He has super taste. Everything is so beautiful and I love how everything is displayed so well. Its clean and neat and it isn't jammed and messy. I have been to antique booths and some of the dealers look like they were in a hurry and quickly jammed a bunch of stuff together and looks sort of messy. BTW, you and Andrew seem to really have fun and enjoy what you two are doing and I think that is so super. And you two are making a living doing something you both love! That is the best part! BTW, as always I have a blast watching your videos. I was going to put this video off until tomorrow becuase I am not feeling well. However, I couldn't becuase like I said before, I'm addicted! LOL!! Had to watch what's new in Jocelyn treasure hunting videos! LOL!

I know this is an old post, but that double moon face ring is a Kirk's Folly piece. If you search his name on E-Bay, you'll get some great results!!

My grandmother had that exact tea pot with matching salt and pepper shakers. They were Made in Japan items. They had the the exact same designs as the one you found.
The larger cocker spaniel may have been Sandicast but some of the smaller ones were United Design Corp. pieces. I used to work for UDC back in the 1990s.
