    I think it's admirable that you are being such responsible livestock owners. It sounds like an awful lot of work, but those kunekune pigs are so adorable.
    Cool looking boots, Kelsey!

      They are absolutely adorable! One of these days they will be the only pigs we raise!

      Yes the kunes are adorable! We never actually butchered one. They were pets for us and we’d always find homes for the piglets. I’m told that the pork is of excellent quality.

    You are so right on the kune kunes. I watch three other channels that got a pair of the them as little piggies, and they did not breed when they came of age.

    Your knowledge is amazing & you guys are so responsible. In-breeding is of major concern with any animals & registration stops a great deal of that. I did not realise how rare the KuneKune pigs are. Great video as always Guys. Cheers Denise - Australia

    SO wonderful to see how protective and careful you guys are being with the KuneKune breed. We face much the same issues in the Meishan breed though we have some different hurdles when it comes to the bloodline registry and in breeding info. Many of our IPP crossed pigs have the coloring and markings of the Kune Kune. They are just so incredibly cute!

      We had an IPP but we were getting a little crazy with how many pigs we had 🫣
      We have snow on the ground low of 16 forecasted for Saturday morning 😟

But wow.... another round of WAY below zero temps here to cope with and keep critters safe through. It's just so SO early for us all to get this cold a weather. brrrrrrrr!!

      The piglets don’t really eat it unless it’s wet. The pellets are also the last thing the sows eat. But they do eat them.😄

    My kunes seemed interested in breeding yet we never got piglets. I am sure I saw evidence of breeding more than once.... muck butt as they say. I sure hope that they breed when I put them back together.

    • @SweetBriarFarmMichigan
      @SweetBriarFarmMichigan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We put the boar back in with the sows. Since they are small enough to move to the barn to farrow we decided to breed them back sooner. Now I am not sure if he hit them on the first cycle so we might have goats and kunekunes at the same time at the end of march. Kelsey is going to cuss me out if I take her goat space lol

    Our piglets our 9 weeks. I have notice dry skin. I was thinking of putting BOSS in the mix but not sure if they can eat that yet. Does the boss soften when soaked? Also where do you get flaxseeds? Where do you get your hay pellets? I saw some at rural king that was tim/alfalfa but had a horse on it? They can have that?? I just don't want to make them sick giving the wrong thing

    • @SweetBriarFarmMichigan
      @SweetBriarFarmMichigan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am not familiar with BOSS so I don’t know. We add a skin supplement you can find at tractor supply Dumor mini pig skin coat supplement. It’s about $5. We use alfalfa pellets from tractor supply too. The alfalfa Timothy pellets won’t hurt them. They do prefer it if they are soaked in a little water to soften them but the older they are the more likely they will consume them the piglets just nose them around and eat the grain. Throwing them some good quality hay to root through would replace the pellets. Sunflower seeds are good for their skin too but the price of those now don’t justify adding them to our mix. Since yours are young I would add the dumor mix to the feed they get a small scoop per meal.

      @@SweetBriarFarmMichigan thanks for the info! We do have grassy 5 acres but its so cold they would come out to eat the grass. BOSS is black oil sunflower seeds. Going to look for that skin supplement! I have tried hay but havent had luck with it yet. Going to try hay wet mixed in feed but thinking of doing the pellets instead. Pellets are a little easier to store for us😅

    • @SweetBriarFarmMichigan

      Registered breeders $400-$700 for boars $450-$900 for gilts. Would be a good average from what we have seen.
