I came into BL after a long history of maintaining multiple plot lines at different stages of completion, for extended periods of time... So these are nothing I can't handle...especially since I have at least 100 different plot arcs that are incomplete sitting around... because the author died before they finished, I chose to put it on hold...or the next installment hasn't yet been published...or it just won't be published for whatever reason...
However, unlike many people faced with this situation, I have a method of suspending that plot within my memory that allows me to recall it without effort... A talent I use frequently in social situations actually... It makes me disturbing to interact with in another way as well... My suspension is so good, that I can preserve my entire frame of mind relating to a person for an unspecified period of time so that regardless of how much time passes, my behavior is unaffected by it. I literally have a pause capacity for anything I encounter...it makes handling my emotions weird though...

Updates:- I watched the whole series but I'm disappointed. It's not the actual bl series while there is a hint of 'BL' in it. There was no such romantic or heartwarming scene I was looking for. I will mark this series 4/10 (based on my personal judgment)

@@preeti4893 This is a Chinese drama right? There's a censorship on lgbtq+ content. So they really can't show more than a really strong bromance hinting at romance. The Untamed is #1 example of that censorship.

It’s true that since strict censoring has been implemented (most significantly seen with Addicted) there‘s mostly only been bad adaptations and weird bromance but there are production groups (mostly the „poorer“ ones that prioritise making a good movie/series rather than the richer ones that capitalise on marketing and financial benefit) that do their best to respect the original work and/or tell a good complete story stretching censorship to its absolute limits.
However, to do so, e.g. Word of Honour relies on a lot of subtlety in e.g. having the actor say uncensored lines but dubbing over it (so you can lipread what is supposed to be said), using literary devices such as referencing historic love poems, allusions to samesex relationships etc., so to understand some of the subtext you need either a really dedicated translator or some prior knowledge on that front.
Taiwanese productions are less well off than mainland productions, partly because proper BL is still regarded a niche market so a lot of productions are lower-budget web series etc. and partly just because of financial divides in the entertainment industry of both regions. Due to this fact, as of yet, they have not advanced significantly into more complex settings (which is why there’s a lot of school/teenage series, similar to thai series).
As an aside: Sadly, there aren’t a lot of western productions that capture the essence of BL. What defines the BL genre for me is a more idealised world view than traditional LGBT+ series. While I feel that a lot of ‚traditional‘ LGBT media capitalises on the stigmatising and ostracising effect of it (e.g. in bullying etc.) or tells a story of rebellion and of repeated downfalls which I do respect, BL embodies something completely different.
This genre capitalises much more on the „love is blind“ motif, using the provocative qualities of gender for that. It tells more of a story of love, growth and acceptance (not just literally of the character’s sexuality but more of who they are as a person). In this genre, there are still happy endings and silver linings as well as a rainbow after the storm which mark it as a fully fictitious genre that is aiming to lift the viewer‘s mood while a lot of LGBT productions are there to show historical and present injustice, the tragedy of being different and the despair of everyday. While I do respect that form of storytelling, I for one prefer just watching something nice and warming on my off-time over being confronted with the darkness of society.
Tl;dr Hopefully china discovers the hidden market of BL/GL/LGBT and takes advantage of their locational and financial qualities over e.g. Taiwan. But in the meantime don‘t give up on that front yet!
Honestly I prefer Taiwanese bls I feel they're warmer and more genuine such as your name engraved or even make our days count I feel like mainland is poorly directed most of the time and feels shallow like it's more advertised? Of the bl world, China really has the budget and what it takes when we're seeing Thailand ( like I told sunset about you not some stupid engineering students type of bl) and Taiwan being ahead with, although I still see them all lacking and full of stereotypes and poor directing and visual/sounds work
@@moababy2473 I feel like mainland productions tend to like going the “story route”. Cuz they basically deleted or only very subtly hint at the romance subplot, the story plot has to carry the entire production.
As such, I do feel like mainland productions are far better set up to tell a complex story which isn’t just limited to romance (such as in Word of Honour). Taiwanese productions on the other hand are mostly very limited in budget so they are more inclined to focus on romance as their main selling point, but in doing so the plot may end up very cliche and predictable. An emerging niche can also be seen in e.g. Japan which has a very established BL subculture in other media such as manga and novels. With the success of productions such as Ossans Love, the investment risk isn’t as high anymore due to positively received precedents. Although Japan has a very aged television/media industry which is aimed as mostly older generations, through movies etc. BL productions have garnered audiences even overseas which further increases investment interest. Due to the media situation in Japan though, we are mostly getting movies or short series, currently.
The best thing would be a production with a good story line independent from romance but also a strong relationship subplot to round out the characters and flesh out the setting.
Sadly, that is still obstructed by censorship and the industry view on BL as its own genre rather than as just another setting to the story; the latter being caused by the majority of the market being girls that exist in the minds of the marketing people as a brainless audience that will lap up any guy/guy interaction (which no doubt some, but by far not all are).
As such due to the stereotypes and a few hard to remove preconceptions the industry and the audience have, the current level and production quality is not at the highest it could be. We could have the intricate story telling of China, the unabashed portrayal of romance from Taiwan, maybe the originality but also well-loved cliches from Japan, the high output of Thailand and the production value of Korea but currently we should probably be grateful for the short series and movies that have come out onto an insecure market.
Hopefully, the situation will improve as newer generations bring a more open and worldly view to the table.
@@waterunderthebridge7950 I totally agree on China having a developed complete storyline while other productions tend to be just focused on the love story and their characters development but some exceptions like (friend zone a thai bl although it has many couples ,the gay couple isnt the main focus and it captures many issues), for japan they have a unique filming it'd def cut you out if you're new to it, but sadly it divides to some having poor editing and waste out potential, and some being a masterpiece although the acting falls down most of the time for korea once they decide to take the bl industry seriously they'd skyrocket to the top in instant cuz in general they have the best directing acting and screen visuals ,we barely seen any but they're slowly making heart touching bls like where your eyes linger, color rush.
Thai bls are currently mainstreamed but many are overrated just poor acting stupid soundeffects and the good ones are underappreciated
I can see more opened eyes as the new generation is more educated and it becoming a very challenging industry, will make them do more high quality stuff but I doubt it'll be more recognized as just a (good story) by everyone but will just be belittled to "bl for fangirls" and will still be underrated by the filming industry

Like so many others, TH-cam had this in my recommendations so many times I decided to give in and watch it even though it's not BL, it's a bromance, but it's light and entertaining and the two boys are both cute. As usual, one is not happy to suddenly find he has to be close to the other one and eventually becomes more friendly. At least they're on the same team.

This is my first time to watch a Chinese BL series with a bit comedy and I am glad that I have a new learning which is the "10 meter air pistol". The actors were great and so with the transitions along the film was appropriate. If they will just add some cute songs maybe this series would be the best for me. You deserve the best Precise Shot! I don't know about "bromance", seems more like a one-sided crush so far. To me it looks like Yiliang has a crush on his "brother". In one scene Yiyou asked "Why is your pulse racing?" when they were standing close. That's definitely implying something.
