I want to explore all of the USA before Europe, just because I've read so much history on it, and it just attracts me. I've only been in California, Oregon, Washington state, Texas, and Massachusetts, and loved every state! Each is a completely different culture, and each has mind blowing natural parks. I want to go to all of them, then go to all of the museums...
Christine paris medora is a beautiful "old west" type town on the western side of north dakota. The badlands are absolutely breathtaking. During the summer they put on a show called the medora musical. It and the pitchfork fondue beforehand are great! Taking a trip through the park you'll see the bison, wild mustangs, prairie dog towns, and possibly coyotes or a mountain lion. We dont have much in north dakota, but we do love all we do have.
Teddy Roosevelt is the quintessential example of a non-toxic masculinity. Someone who can be strong while also being temperate, someone with big ideas but who is also grounded in reality. One of the few cults of personality who actually deserved it.

The national parks system is a monumental blessing and, I believe, the US' greatest treasure. My gratitude to John Muir and Teddy Roosevelt is Immeasurable. This video brought a patriotic tear to my eye.
In my humble opinion Theodore Roosevelt is one of the very best peacetime Presidents this country has ever had.His efforts on the behalf on conservation and preservation of wildlife and his concern about the environment was way ahead of the times he lived in. A historian,scholar and a credit to his nation.I highly recommend David McCullough's"Mornings on Horseback" or Edmund Morris's excellent trilogy on TR's life.

Words cannot explain how much TR has influenced my life. This man, though long since passed, has been the model in which I have followed growing up. A bullet cannot stop a bull moose!
TR was tough as nails. He gets shot during a speech and he continued speaking for an hour and only stopped after he lost too much blood and had to go to the hospital.
T. Roosevelt is one my favorite figures in American history - all of history. I love his robustness. I admit I fell in love with his character in Caleb Carr's, "The Alienist". At least from the novel's perspective. The novel's depiction of his personality is accurate.

Actually, Teedy (or Teedie) is a nickname he gained in childhood, one which irked him quite a bit. It is why, later in life he greatly disliked being called Teddy, as it reminded him of that childhood nickname.
Additionally, he was not thrilled that the teddy moniker was being used at late date to sell toys. He was a serious person and he felt ridiculed. Can't say I blame him. Depression ran deep in his side of the Roosevelt family. This bravado and dedication to completing goals was one of the defenses he used to combat this depression. His brother succumbed to his battle with depression and alcoholism by committing suicide so he helped raise his niece Eleanor. She had the same mindset as him and they had a very strong bond. He also married her off to future president Franklin D. Roosevelt, even making a joke about FDR keeping it in the family, but FDR and Eleanor were like 7th cousins.

He had some views on differences between races that would SURELY be ridiculed today, yes, but he was pretty good overall. He actually came to believe in equality for black Americans in earnest after they fought with him in Cuba, as he reasoned that anyone willing to die the same death for their country as any white person should have the same other rights as well. He also believed that their equality was inevitable and appointed some black officials to Federal office. He probably could've done more, but that's true for nearly everyone. Unfortunately, while he did a LOT of good for racial issues, he was still a product of his time (and wealthy birth) and would use very us/them language to talk about black people. Honestly, if you could put his views on a stamp, his mentality was this: "It'd be better for us and them if slavery hadn't brought them over from Africa to begin with, but that happened, so we have to deal with them, and we should give them a fair deal in the process." Which isn't exactly "woke" haha ... but again, in context of the time, he was still *very* progressive. In fact, a LOT of conservative politicians in his day said that he was empowering black people too much and making them feel too emboldened. Soooo, my general rule of thumb for politicians from that era is "Sure, he was a little bit prejudiced, but if he pissed off the KKK, then he was probably doing something right."

There was only about 500 rough riders the majority of them being cowboys, Indians, and Roosevelt’s Ivy League college buddies. They were not soldiers and not used to fighting in formation and in the first battle they lost 150 men, so almost half. The Buffalo Soldiers were sent into help aid them up the hill. Roosevelt himself gave credit to the Buffalo Soldiers right after the war but then years later he went back and just lied about everything to make himself look like the hero he wasn’t.

Its no wonder kids dont want to be active for their chemical releases when they can get the same dopamine release from sitting on a couch, or eating fastfood. well yeah, there was abundant nature when he was a kid. Go take a look at what most of america looks like. Strip malls and corporate stores everywhere, crowded overpopulated cities, lack of funding for parks and recreation because we have an unhealthy obsession with police funding etc. Kids aren't outside because most of the time being outside sucks.

I grew up by his oyster bay house. We used to visit often. They told us in the tours that he would stop every day at the same time to play outside with the kids regardless of who was with him. Awesome presentation.

If there's ever been a time that the US needed a man with Teddy Roosevelt's moral compass and political courage, it's now.

My favourite US President. He accomplished so much in 60 years. Panama Canal, Nobel Peace Prize, built the US Navy to rival Britain and Germany and brought about the National Parks. A Republican with a heart and a undying love for nature and people. Tough as nails and a love for literature and the arts. Wrote over 30 books. I have read many books about the man. Next summer, I am riding to Mt. Rushmore from Vancouver to see him and other great US Presidents. Can’t wait.
That statue has always been controversial i it has Teddy on a horse with a Native American on foot to his right and an African to his left it is supposed to represent the continents he liked to go hunting at but it looks racist to a lot of people because he is on horse back and they are on foot it can be easily misinterpreted as racist. They should replace it with a statue of Teddy on his horse alone the other people were unnecessary and it does look racist even though it wasn’t meant to be

some of the best parts of his life got left out: like how he regularly had boxing matches in the white house against any challenger, including professional boxers and army officers. He only stopped when a punch from a captain made him go partially blind in one eye. He also once had a young army officers write him after Teddy had retired complaining about having to ride too many miles each day so Teddy, in his late 60s at that point, rode twice that distance in a day and the guy stopped complaining.

I've only been in California, Oregon, Washington state, Texas, and Massachusetts, and loved every state! Each is a completely different culture, and each has mind blowing natural parks. I want to go to all of them, then go to all of the museums...
Christine paris medora is a beautiful "old west" type town on the western side of north dakota. The badlands are absolutely breathtaking. During the summer they put on a show called the medora musical. It and the pitchfork fondue beforehand are great! Taking a trip through the park you'll see the bison, wild mustangs, prairie dog towns, and possibly coyotes or a mountain lion. We dont have much in north dakota, but we do love all we do have.

In my humble opinion Theodore Roosevelt is one of the very best peacetime Presidents this country has ever had.His efforts on the behalf on conservation and preservation of wildlife and his concern about the environment was way ahead of the times he lived in. A historian,scholar and a credit to his nation.I highly recommend David McCullough's"Mornings on Horseback" or Edmund Morris's excellent trilogy on TR's life.
There's a reason his mug is up there beside that of Lincoln, Jefferson and Washington. Because the man was a badass in similar stature to they.

T. Roosevelt is one my favorite figures in American history - all of history. I love his robustness. I admit I fell in love with his character in Caleb Carr's, "The Alienist". At least from the novel's perspective. The novel's depiction of his personality is accurate.

Depression ran deep in his side of the Roosevelt family. This bravado and dedication to completing goals was one of the defenses he used to combat this depression. His brother succumbed to his battle with depression and alcoholism by committing suicide so he helped raise his niece Eleanor. She had the same mindset as him and they had a very strong bond. He also married her off to future president Franklin D. Roosevelt, even making a joke about FDR keeping it in the family, but FDR and Eleanor were like 7th cousins.

He had some views on differences between races that would SURELY be ridiculed today, yes, but he was pretty good overall. He actually came to believe in equality for black Americans in earnest after they fought with him in Cuba, as he reasoned that anyone willing to die the same death for their country as any white person should have the same other rights as well. He also believed that their equality was inevitable and appointed some black officials to Federal office. He probably could've done more, but that's true for nearly everyone. Unfortunately, while he did a LOT of good for racial issues, he was still a product of his time (and wealthy birth) and would use very us/them language to talk about black people. Honestly, if you could put his views on a stamp, his mentality was this: "It'd be better for us and them if slavery hadn't brought them over from Africa to begin with, but that happened, so we have to deal with them, and we should give them a fair deal in the process." Which isn't exactly "woke" haha ... but again, in context of the time, he was still *very* progressive. In fact, a LOT of conservative politicians in his day said that he was empowering black people too much and making them feel too emboldened. Soooo, my general rule of thumb for politicians from that era is "Sure, he was a little bit prejudiced, but if he pissed off the KKK, then he was probably doing something right."

@@kevinhamilton9920 Jerome Tuccile wrote a book called the roughest riders. It’s about the events of the Spanish American war that was documented by both journalists and army officials alike. There was only about 500 rough riders the majority of them being cowboys, Indians, and Roosevelt’s Ivy League college buddies. They were not soldiers and not used to fighting in formation and in the first battle they lost 150 men, so almost half. The Buffalo Soldiers were sent into help aid them up the hill. Roosevelt himself gave credit to the Buffalo Soldiers right after the war but then years later he went back and just lied about everything to make himself look like the hero he wasn’t.

well yeah, there was abundant nature when he was a kid. Go take a look at what most of america looks like. Strip malls and corporate stores everywhere, crowded overpopulated cities, lack of funding for parks and recreation because we have an unhealthy obsession with police funding etc. Kids aren't outside because most of the time being outside sucks.
As a Canadian I'm not as interest in the US Presidents as some Americans are, but Theodore Roosevelt is probably one of the only presidents of the past that I find rather interesting.

Teddy sounds like a main character in an RPG.
From Teddy to Trump, the state of American politics has fallen in every regard.
Roosevelt believed in giving common citizens equal opportunities to the elites, in making sure the government worked for the good of the nation, and preserving the beauty of the American landscape; there's none of that spirit in the current administration.
If there's ever been a time that the US needed a man with Teddy Roosevelt's moral compass and political courage, it's now.
Yeah, it's a sad development for sure - even though Teddy recognized at the time that the Republican party was straying from its path he couldn't in his wildest imagination have pictured how it actually looks in these times. Unfortunately there's no man like him to be seen in American politics today...

My favourite US President. He accomplished so much in 60 years. Panama Canal, Nobel Peace Prize, built the US Navy to rival Britain and Germany and brought about the National Parks. A Republican with a heart and a undying love for nature and people. Tough as nails and a love for literature and the arts. Wrote over 30 books. I have read many books about the man. Next summer, I am riding to Mt. Rushmore from Vancouver to see him and other great US Presidents. Can’t wait.

Who's here in 2020 when they are removing his statue from the NY Museum of Natural History?
That statue has always been controversial i it has Teddy on a horse with a Native American on foot to his right and an African to his left it is supposed to represent the continents he liked to go hunting at but it looks racist to a lot of people because he is on horse back and they are on foot it can be easily misinterpreted as racist. They should replace it with a statue of Teddy on his horse alone the other people were unnecessary and it does look racist even though it wasn’t meant to be
@@joakos1122 Yeah remove the native americans and its fine(one of the very times that that sentence makes logical sense in a positive way). Theres also the point about mount rushmore, which roosevelt backed the treaty violation of. Much as i love Teddy, that statue has always been a problem.
Well, the American Empire has to end somehow just like other empires before it. Americans always thought it would never happen to them because of their military and economic power and geographical location. They thought that historical processes do not apply to the New World. However, the forces destroying the US are coming from within, not from without. There is no enemy to bomb. Many upheavals in history started with removing old idols and statutes and ushering in new ones. And all you're doing is complaining on the web what is being done to your world instead of taking action. I hope you survive the upcoming revolution. And I wish I was joking, but I'm not.

The thought that we could've had Roosevelt again but got Wilson instead is simultaneously depressing and infuriating.
In a way, it’s because of the Old Lion that we were stuck with Wilson. Wilson only lucked out because of the GOP-Progressive split. Had Roosevelt won the GOP nomination, he would’ve crushed Wilson. Had he not opposed Taft, then Taft would’ve beaten Wilson.

I have lived in ND my whole life, an hour from Medora! My family has been going to the musical and adventuring the town for almost 50 years and it’s always so amazing as is his story and the rest of the town’s history. 10/10 would recommend
