From what I understand it's a Princess who falls in love with a General. This angers the King so he has the General murdered and buried in an unmarked grave in a swamp. The Princess is so distraught that she kills herself and is buried in a beautiful grove. 4 of the General's Loyal Soldiers find his grave and perform a ritual to bring him back to life. Then they search for the Princess' grave. The 4 soldiers perform a last ritual, giving their lives to raise the Princess. Then the General performs the gestures to send him and his love back to the grave to be together for eternity....
We were referring to a poem from the 19th century, by a Portuguese ultra-romantic author, Soares de Passos. The poem is called "Noivado do Sepulcro" ("Betrothal of the Grave") and tells the story of a corpse that was buried and that, at midnight, gets up from the grave to complain about his beloved who abandoned him in death. After his moaning in the moonlight, he finally hears a voice and sees his beloved, in the cemetery, joining him in death for his love. The poem ends with the two corpses lying in the same grave and the other grave empty.
