All 4 This Time! The Awesome H&C Lifts/Elevators at the Concert Square Car Park in Glasgow

- [Recorded 17/8/20] That sneaky pair that only goes up to 3 wasn't escaping without a film this time! Thanks to information left on my previous video of this car park I can confirm that these are actually modernisations and are not completely original! These were originally Marryat Scott lifts from 1977 before the buttons and interior were updated by H&C. I have a suspicion that there's been some slight changes with the controllers as well - either that or its just how the indicators work - because the indicators and voice modules here behave the same as the ones at Cambridge Street Car Park (coming soon) despite Cambridge Street being single speed compared to this lot being two-speed, along with Cambridge Street being originally Ellis & McDougall lifts from 1972. If it was a full controller replacement both car parks' lifts would run the same however as its just the indicators and voices that behave the same it makes me think its either a partial controller change or its just how the indicator and voice integrate with the old positioning systems. Anyway Lift 1 here in Concert Square CP still has its amazing motor sounds, probably the loudest traction motor I've heard, Lift 2 can't quite compete but its still pretty good, and the pair are probably semi-close-ish (nice terminology XD) to Lift 2. The last lift in this video was a bit reluctant to leave the second floor for me! My guess is the doors were just ever so slightly not shut right as with a bit of help it was able to get moving again. The pair of lifts handles assigning a lift to a call interestingly, unlike what a lot of lifts tend to do.

I emailed Citybuilding and they told me that these indeed do have the original Marryat Scott semi-relay based controller with a Thyssen voice, and were modded in 1999.
The motors in all of them are high power, two speed Horace Green & Co ‘Trislot’ motors, apart from the last one, which is a Brook Crompton motor.
Both sound lovely, and you don’t see many Brook Crompton motors on lifts!
this information makes me wonder about the single speed ones at Cambridge Street CP because one of those motors sounds very distinctively different from the other 3, I wonder if a similar situation has occurred there where that one very loud one is either the only original motor or the only replaced motor. Just for my own knowledge on Concert Square is the Brook Crompton one a newer motor that had to be put in at some point?
@@ZZ9ProductionsOFFICIAL the Cambridge street single speeds were Ellis and McDougall lifts with an identical mod. I’m not too sure on the motor replacement sadly
@@RediffusionMusic it just feels like there must have been some form of replacement motor(s) happen in Cambridge Street because it seems far too unlikely for them to have that much difference in the sound while being the same model of motor

My town’s shopping centre has some really nice 80s glass H+C lifts. Unfortunately they’ve been modernised, however everything accept the buttons and logic is original! :-)

The group of two closest to the bus station I remember before they were modernised (and they were still Marryat-Scott) if both lifts were at the same floor and you pressed the call button they'd both open. If they still do that then that is a clue that the controller has not been changed.
i didn't try it when they were both at the same floor however that could be a worthwhile task for a future revisit. Do you remember if on floors other than top and bottom, before they were modernised, did they only have the one call button like they have now or did they have an up and down?

Single button makes me even more convinced that it was just the fixtures, interior and voice that were updated in the mod then with the controller being left original

3:27 "these things suffer from a lack of lighting at times" - not sure if you meant the fact that the 2 button wasn't lighting or the car lighting was dim. You never saw them in their original pre-modernised state, there was a single small lamp in the centre of the ceiling and that was it!
the car lighting was dim is what i was meaning, oof it must have been really dark inside before the mod!
@@ZZ9ProductionsOFFICIAL yeah they were pretty dingy. Just bare metal and no mirror as that wasn't required in the 70s. The doors were replaced as part of the mod....the original doors didn't have portholes so you had no visual cue that you were moving
Ooof those sound quite spooky then when they were original! And the lack of visual cues probably didn't make a ton of difference as it's easy to feel (and in some cases hear!) that you're moving in these lol

@@kevinmurphy-steele5055 i remember another lift filmer said once that the phobia made him want to learn as much about lifts as possible or something like that, so if i'm reading it right its something like that that you experienced as well?
