    Excellent description of nto only how but WHY keeping the roots jstu above the waterline helps to to avoid root rot when transferring plants, THANK YOU! it seems to obvious to me now!

    I like how you're experimenting with putting cuttings in it for the first time! You've given me the courage to just go for it lol

    Hey, similar to the earlier part in the video when you mentioned that cuttings do better in leca, I actually found great success with string of hearts growing in leca as they'd started out as water props for me! They're even flowering in leca for me!😁

    I've started cheating for water propagating by putting the cuttings in leca, then just filling the reservoir so the nodes are covered in water - then once roots grow I don't have to transfer, just drain the extra water!

    Thanks for this video, love how it’s so easy to follow!!! I am also a leca-lover, have over 90% off my plant babies in leca. Came here because I was wondering what everybody else is doing regarding the roots that have already developed in soil and what to do about them once you’re transferring into Leca.., I noticed that you wash them very well and thoroughly but then you cut them off. Is it necessary to wash off the part of the roots so much if you plan to cut it off? I transferred an anthurium yesterday and I realized after cleaning the soil off of the roots for about 45 mins... that I trimmed about 30% off & feel I probably could’ve saved some of my time just chopping off part of that first! Lol!! Any thoughts on this?

    • @BeesHouseofPlants
      @BeesHouseofPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm just pruning anything that looks dead. You can chop first, it's up to you. I just think it's easier to see what's just stained from dirt and what's actually dead if I wash first!

    If you're looking for leca alternatives, you should do some research into lava rock. They have many similar qualities (team leca vs. team lava rock) but they also have much more weight, which aids in stabilizing plants, are much more wallet friendly, and easily found at home hardware stores. I think people tend to go for the red more than the black, but I can't recall if there were any significant benefits of red over black. Worth checking out though!

    I saw another girl saying that you should transfer when it's thirsty but then a year later she made another video saying that this was a big mistake as all the plants that were transferred while thirsty actually ended up declining pretty fast, most probably because of hydric stress+ repotting stress; not sure though since i never tried that way

    Hi Bee! I am new to your channel and loving it! I recently bought a monstera deliciosa about 14 inches tall, or what they call a "juvenile", in a 6 inch plant pot. I bought it a month ago. It is in soil and I want to convert to leca. Should I clean the plant and put the whole plant in water with superthrive for about a month or so before moving it to leca or just move it to leca directly? And after I move it to leca, which kind of fertilizer do you recommend? I appreciate your response!❤

    I reside in the Caribbean where mosquitoes are an issue. Do we need to leave water in the pot?

    • @BeesHouseofPlants
      @BeesHouseofPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't but LECA tries very quickly, within 24 hours or so without a water reservoir so I'm afraid that if you don't you'll have to water your plants very frequently!

    Bee... do you think I'd have succes if I use a self watering pot? I have a few 6 inch self watering pots already and don't want to buy more pots unless these don't work.

    • @BeesHouseofPlants
      @BeesHouseofPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For LECA, yes! I don’t like self watering pots for soil but it’ll totally work for LECA plants

    what do you do when the lecca has a smell and can you still use it.

    • @BeesHouseofPlants
      @BeesHouseofPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It shouldn't have a smell! There's likely organic material that might be in it, like dead roots or something. I soak mine in a hydrogen peroxide cleaner when reusing, let it dry out completely (some people like to bake theirs in the oven at a low temp), make sure to pick out any dead bits of roots or anything like that.

    Hi Bee! I got a Thai constellation already in Leca and water reservoir is pretty low & was told to wait til it dries out completely to refill, what are your thoughts? I also noticed some roots at top are just barely covered by leca and look pretty dry..should I move these roots lower so it’s covered more heavily in leca? Nervous because I’ve never used leca 😅

    • @BeesHouseofPlants
      @BeesHouseofPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I water around once a week, usually the majority of the water is gone by then. I don’t stress too much about making sure that *all* the water is gone. But like I wouldn’t if there was still like an inch of water ya know. You can definitely repot!

    If I didnt get to soak my leva jsut wash em for like 5 mins will it still work on my plants? What would happen?

    • @BeesHouseofPlants
      @BeesHouseofPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There will just be a lot of clay deposit! It might slightly hinder the roots ability to intake water. But probably be okay, just flush well!

  • @TOShorts
    @TOShorts 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldnt reccomend cleaning the bare roots that harshly as you can damage the fine hairs on the roots

    • @BeesHouseofPlants
      @BeesHouseofPlants  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It totally is very abrasive, but the goal is for the plants to grow new roots that are better suited for LECA/water.

  • @TheElleification
    @TheElleification 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bee! I transferred my tineke rubber tree from soil to LECA two days ago, and her leaves are all drooping downward. Was she a good candidate for LECA or no?

    • @BeesHouseofPlants
      @BeesHouseofPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’s likely just acclimating from the transition! It’ll likely bounce back! My tineke is doing great in LECA, but I didn’t transition it from soil, I water propagated it first

    • @TheElleification
      @TheElleification 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeesHouseofPlants ok I'll just wait and see how she does. You're right, so much less stressful to start them out as cuttings in leca first instead of soil to LECA.
