    May I remind you she was the first woman far less black person of colour like myself to be nominated for PRODUCER OF the year for grammys. She wrote and composed black cat by herself. Jellybean Johnson took her keyboard lick(she's been playing keyboards since 7) and translated it on the guitar. She is the only female top the pop and rock charts at the same time

    "Black Cat" is the only rock song in history written/produced by a black woman to hit #1 on Billboard singles chart. It's also the only the only song in history to simultaneously chart on the Billboard Hot 100, R&B, Club, Dance and Hip-Hop charts.

    Janet is the blueprint! There would be no Beyoncé, TLC, Aaliyah, Rihanna, Britney, P!nk, if it wasn’t for Janet. My favorite album is “The Velvet Rope,” because the message. It was one of, if not the first album to spotlight mental health. She had come out of a depression of sorts and wrote about it. Also, she spoke about the LGBTQ community. With “Together Again,” being dedicated to her friends she lost to the AIDS epidemic. The album spoke about owning your sexuality, being proud of it, and finding the power that comes from embracing that part of yourself. She told this 13 year old boy, who was confused, scared, ashamed, to not be. To be fearless, brave, and proud. Now, being 38, I’m a proud native, non-binary person. Who is brave, and proud, who has found their power in their sexuality. I love Janet!!! Also, like I said at the top, I wouldn’t have TLC, and BRITNEY if it wasn’t for Janet. Most like to say that her inspiration is Madonna, but it’s all Janet.

    She starts her new black diamond tour in may 7th in lousiville. Janet is still selling out stadiums and still dancing like this. She puts young artists to shame

    Rhythm Nation the Album was inducted into The National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress. She is phenomenal and yes , she did surpass Michael during this period . Let's not forget, MTV refused to play black artist's in the beginning. Michael Jackson was the first Black artist that they put in heavy rotation which later allowed Prince, Janet , and other black artist to be played there. Rick James actually started the protest against MTV for not playing black music videos.

      Yeah the early days of MTV are fascinating to me. They had no idea what the hell they were doing, but they essentially created a genre from the ground up, and just like the radio and record execs from the past, they profited off the music of POC while also subordinating them.

    "Rhythm Nation 1814" the short film is really very cool to watch in it's entirety! On "Black Cat" I think her singing is very reminiscent of Michael, speaking of!

    Love both songs and you guys nailed it, the album had it all! The is the one female that could cross over with different music genres, not just musically, but vocally...and make it look good! Great reaction...more janet please!
    Oh the nunchucks...she brought it back during her Rhythm Nation number at the Velvet Rope Tour and killed it!! Must watch!

    Black Cat performance always reminds me of Micheal Jackson's Dirty Diana on stage. They looked almost similar with the same white top and black trousers. I saw the Rhythm Nation Concert Live in London and I still have some of the Official concert merchandise which I will always treasure forever.

  • @SlimDaddy9

    You've made a lot of good points in your observations. However, there's one thing that you've missed. She's paying a homage to Michael bc she's dressed identically to her brother in his video for Dirty Diana.
    I loved both of these extremely different tracks that still had a thin line of connection to them. IMHO, Rhythm Nation conveys a message of coordination by the current generation to deal with the world's problems, issues and conflicts. Then, when we have a handle on that, we can rock out and hang together, as in Black Cat.

    Bit late to this reaction party, but really enjoyed this guys and liked the banter and backstory of Janet’s Rhythm Nation era! I’m a huge fan of Black Cat I think particularly cos of the Rock vibe on this track - I wish she did more Rock as I believe this style really suited her. 😀🤘🏽

      @LikeMindedLunatics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed our video! And I totally agree with you. "Black Cat" was just straight forward rock and roll, and I really wish Janet would have done at least one album full of tunes with that badass rock swagger.
      I felt the same way about Miley Cyrus. She would cover rock tunes in her concerts and I'd think "Man, I'd love to see her just do that for a full album," and now she kind of has, so that's really cool.
      Thanks again. Hopefully you check out more of our stuff. We try to make our reactions more of a conversation than just a "that was so great, please like and subscribe!" So if you like our other stuff, please consider subscribing and stick around!

      Are you open to suggestions for song, bands and artists via the comments or do you have another way of deciding your playlist for reactions? I’d love to send you some suggestions for some great Aussie bands and classic British rock bands if you’re up for it?! 🙏🏽😉

    • @matthewharjo7512
      @matthewharjo7512 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      She took inspiration from Michael’s 3D Disney film “Captain EO.” She wanted the military style because she wanted everyone to move as a unit. The choreo was about unity, becoming one. After that, it became her style.

    You guys pause the songs waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. You lose the progression of the song for your viewers especially. May I suggest you actually watch both videos and THEN discuss the likes and differences

    • @LikeMindedLunatics
      @LikeMindedLunatics  ปีที่แล้ว

      We pause the video for two reasons: 1) If we get a copyright flag we have to be able to fulfill three criteria when we dispute it. One of those criteria is we transform the video in some way and another is that we add "frequent" criticism. 2) We don't like reaction videos where people just watch the video and don't discuss it. We find them boring.
      Additionally, this is a comparison video between TWO videos. Without pausing and going back and forth we can't do that.
      There are a lot of other reactors out there filming the types of reactions you like. My suggestion is to support the things you like and if there's something you don't like, leave for others who might enjoy it. Try putting positivity out into the world.
