i play around the clock as well - staring with singles following by triples and ending by doubles . but difference in my case is I continue only if number is hit. So sometimes it takes a time to finish one round :)
Try the game Bobs 27 , created by Bob Anderson. Rules: You start with 27 points and you throw 3 darts at each double from 1 - bull Miss the double with all three darts, and you lose the score for missed double from total , e.g miss D6 minus 12 from score. Hit the double and you get the value of the double to total with each hit , e.g hit D6 3 time add 36. Hit it once add 12. A perfect score would be 1437.
@@muchiosgracias4 You are bust then mate. And need to restart. Good practice though. I use the Russ Bray app i think Bobs 27 actually lets you go into the minus scores. You could be -20 bit then a double 10 has you back to level.
I think this type of exercise is slightly harder for fast rhythm players like MVG. Like if he misses inside on a D16, his brain is on autopilot for D8 and D4. He doesn't pause and reset between shots. I have a similar throwing style and I'm not the best at games like this. But I'll always beat my friends if we're doing combinations based on real world scoring patterns like D20/D10/D5 or D16/D8/D4. I'll often hit 2 out of 3 because my brain just turns off and it's all muscle memory. Like if I go inside on a D20, I'm already releasing the dart on the D10 before I even have time to think about it.
There used to be an actual event like this called the Pentathlon. Rather than playing each other, the players did round the clock on doubles, halve-it, 1001, 2001 and Shanghai and the highest scorer over the 5 events was the champion. Bristow, Lowe, Wilson, Taylor, Priestley etc all played in it. If I recall, John Lowe used to do particularly well. Be interesting to see something similar in the PDC.
Me & my bro have been playing round the clock darts since the early 80's. What we played is if you hit single 1,2 & 3 without missing then you get a free go at 4,5 & 6 and if you miss at least 1 single dart at a single then it's the other players turn. If you say hit 1,2,3,4,5 single then miss the single 6 then it's the other players turn and your on single 6 if the other player misses on his go then carry on with your turn from single 6 onwards. Say If the other player hits all 20 singles 1 to 20 without missing then hits the bull then he wins the game without you even throwing. With the trebles if you hit all 3 trebles with 3 darts 1 to 3 then it's on to trebles 4,5 & 6 but if you miss 1 or more then its the other players go, so if you miss say on treble 5 hitting 1,2,3 & 4 previously then your on treble 5 after the other misses on his go. Then finish off with the bull as usual after hitting treble 20. All the same process with the doubles going around the clock but different to what these guys are playing as they continue onto the next double if they miss, whereas our game you had to keep going for that double until you hit it then onto the next one. A lot harder of course compared to the singles game. we also used to play to hit 3 different greens trebles or hit 3 different greens doubles and the same with the reds doubles & red trebles on the board.
That's a great point. They've made a strategic error there with choosing to use that freedom. They should have tried to emulate their match throwing to doubles. I'd bet they would score better with it.
I've been playing darts at a fairly reasonable standard for over 40 years and incredibly have never come across this way of going round the clock, but tomorrow I intend to start incorporating it into my practice routine. I'll certainly be pleased that I won't have to put up with the 'miss, miss, miss' calls - very annoying!
Maybe this was filmed early on that day and nobody was really warmed up. Normally they warming up and practicing for 3 - 4 hours before it goes on stage.
Great video. One advise. I get that for the audience you have to say hit and miss. Just prerecord the hit and miss words with two and three phrases and add them later. For a player it has to be really annoying and distracting to hear this all the time.
