    I love rescuing single candlesticks. I use them in groupings.

    I still have my mom's aluminum coasters. I used to play with them when I was a kid. She had a lot of aluminum serving pieces.

    Study the aluminum. The older is heavier and marked. The light weight is pressed or spun. You want hammered.

    Of course, you do you, but I've got a really nice collection of orphaned cream and sugars, plus a few salts. I started because I didn't have much disposable cash and usually the orphans were less than half of a pair. I have several pairs that were inherited or gifts, but I've matched up 5 exact pairs and another 4 sets of different colors and one pair of same blank but different etching. It makes an interesting display. Various sherbets make a nice collection too.

    I'm glad you picked up the goofus glass. I sold all of mine years ago when it was a little more popular. I ended up buying a vase because it's a great piece of glass history to own.

    That was a lot of hammered aluminum. I like the patterns and shapes but not the finish on the metal. Some of the brown furniture pieces were hidden gems.

    What a treat having daily vlogs! It's sad to see the charming Deco 'snow angel' candle holder missing its mate... I am glad that you're bending your own rule with regard to 'occasionally' purchasing single candle holders, those little orphans need to be cared for! No doubt someone will love it and give it a good home!

    I had acquired a few of the aluminum pieces over the years and then last year I went on a decluttering binge and donated them all to a non-profit thrift store. I just never used them and no place to display them. No regrets.

    Glad you passed on the aluminum. Those looked like very common low end pieces. You do an excellent job of, stop, think, pause, and refresh that impulsive urge. And the brain says, ‘do you want another death pile?’ Keep on a teaching.

    You had me getting up to check the 3 aluminum pieces I've picked up over the years. 2 Everlast Hand-forged pieces, a trivet with 4 cork feet, and a 2-tiered handled beauty I use to collect small things on my dresser. Also, a candy dish with a t-shaped handle that in unmarked, holds all our keys.---I happened to go into our Goodwill yesterday on a mission to get my Granddaughter a jacket, & found a gorgeous goofus glass shallow bowl. It was truly magnificent on a grand scale. Sadly, I'm purging 50 years of unneeded stuff, and depressingly had no need of that jewel of a bowl, & had to set it back on the shelf. Sigh.---I'd ask a favor for those of us who hunt in smaller market areas...Please provide a quick overhead of the size of the shops you frequent, to give us an idea of how big your hunting stores are!

    I too, was waiting for an answer on what the Keystone item was, but after a couple of months of watching these videos, I recognize that this is all a big experiment and how well you’re paying attention.😂 He does later on collectively reference the items and mentions that it’s a tidbit tray.
    My biggest question is why images that are clearly not of the colonial era are often referred to as colonial? I’m not challenging anyone’s knowledge on this I just feel like I’m missing some thing.

    • @oldcuriosityshop265
      @oldcuriosityshop265  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A great deal of artistic liberties were taken by designers during the colonial revival. Of the turn of the century into the 1950s and often items that are referred to as colonial would have never been actually found in true colonial era homes. That was a very good question and I apologize for only giving you a quick answer.

    • @KatL22211
      @KatL22211 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for an answer! Yes! A great deal of artistic license! I don’t understand the effort at “Colonial Revival “ only to put an obviously Victorian image of a couple on a piece. Not to mention Colonial Revival isn’t so far removed from the Victorian Era which at that time would’ve made a Victorian image boring and dated.
