Awesome video! Is it safe to apply convergence strips to a consumer TV while it's powered on? I have a 32" Trinitron but no isolation transformer (it's just plugged directly to AC in my apartment), but really need to fix a couple of corners!
@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepairGreat, really appreciate your response! So even tho the service manual mentions the TV having a "live chassis", as long as I keep away from the anode cap and flyback, it's okay even without any extra gear?
Hi, thanks for your video! I have a 14 inch trinitron tv with a bit of bowing in one corner, i cannot fix with the service menu. Color convergence seems good, i just need to "pull" that corner up. Will convergence strips work, or maybe magnets? Is it safe if you accidentally touch the back of a live tube? Thank you!
Hello. Sorry for posting this comment so late, but could you create a video on adding convergence strips to the lower half on the tube? I wanna see how to do it safely without touching any components.
Hey Mike would a discolored corner on the monitor be caused by old/bad convergence strip? Monitor looks sharp and crisp but top corner is a little washed or faded. It's Mrs. Pac-Man and the maze is pink but yellowed at the top and corner. Thanks bud!
Could be. You sure it’s not simply a gauss issue? Does the discoloration change if you rotate the monitor? What does it look like with just a red, blue, or green screen?
@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair I'll send you pics later. I just got back home from being on the road. I did run the degausser over it and it changes for just a second. I'll try to DM you tomorrow. Thanks Mike!
@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair aight thanks, was thinking of doing this with my crt tv but was scared that I might accidentally touch the red wire and get shocked.
I just tried this with my strips it moved mine around abit better so I checked the convergence pattern, grid and all that and now it's somehow worse when I reassemble the tv 🤣
wow! man we need more people like you in this hobby...
Thanks for this. I now understand localized corner separation (dynamic) and how it’s different from entire grid separation (static).
Man awesome video on a not well covered topic! So cool, thanks!

Thanks! Sure. You need to see how the convergence is affected so you can install them correctly.

Yup. And don’t touch the exposed posts on the yoke.
Excellent info, thank you.

No worries. Just throw a rubber glove on to insulate yourself and you’ll be fine. That’s about the only way you can do it if you want to do it safely.
Flippin awesome .
Muy bueno
Great video!

does freezer magnets works for this¿¿
Sure. But if they are too strong, you can damage the mask.
@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair ohh I see.. im gonna trý with very small pieces first.. Thanks!
Are you able to touch the red wire without getting shocked?
Just touching the wire? Yes.

Unless you stick your finger under the rubber cup or it's torn, you should be ok. Just be cautious.
Any recommendation on where to buy convergence strips?

What pattern is this?
Checkerboard from a test pattern generator.
@@MikesArcadeMonitorRepair What about the one you were using for the majority of the video from the beginning? Where could I find this?
