  • In this video I am making engagement rings with cast-in-place sapphires and diamonds. The rings are textured with sentimental beach sand. I sprinkle the sand inside the mould so that the 9ct white gold picks up the fine texture of the granules.

    Hi, such beautiful pieces. Can I ask please did you just add bits of sand into the mold to make the texture? Thanks a lot x

    Hi Kirra-Lea
    I love these rings they’re amazing. Was the texture from your fine pin tool or did you add beach sand into the delft clay.
    Thanks so much x

      I dusted the impression with beach sand to create the texture on these rings :)

    Nice!
    Have you ever made green sand and if so is it worth the time to make it?
    Is there a difference between Delft clay and green sand?
    Thank you!

      I havent made my own sand, decided to leave that to the professionals hahaha. As far as I can tell green sand is for foundry style work and is petrobond. Delft clay and Red clay are higher mesh and specifically designed for jewellery.

    It seems like it would be helpful if there was some actual voice over information rather than music for a tutorial video. What exactly are you doing when adding the beach sand? What is the red tube and its purpose? Adding the stone in place...a bit more information.

    How do you finish the rings where the metal ran in. I mean, after you saw “the thing” off. 😅💐

    is the sapphire not affected by the heat? I know it can take some heat, but this much, when casting?

      There is still the risk of breakage, but there is a high chance of success :)

    Beautiful - how are you texturing the area where the stub was removed and what is the pin you use ?

    • @sandcasting_with_kirralea
      @sandcasting_with_kirralea  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to texture that manually after casting, using ball burs and texturing wheels :)
