I think the thing that drove the horror factor home in "The Rescue Mission" was the fact that, for whatever reason, Mike and Leo never Morphed, they were in standard military armor the entire time.

let's see, red ranger: sent on a suicidal mission with brother (who dies) and has daddy issues all season long. blue ranger: tries to be hero all his life, reality kicks his ass. Tries to defend girl from bully? Suspended for fighting.Tries to help poor villagers with a corrupt government? Fired from peace corps and its implied all those rebels died. yellow ranger: Is literally thrown off a moving truck by her supposed 'friends', travels through robot-infested wastelands wherein her butler and father-figure is killed and dies in her arms. black ranger: can't remember a single thing about his past, turns out (spoiler alert), he was experimented on and had parts of his body replaced by robotics which the main villain can control. green ranger: got involved in the mafia somehow, stole medicine from them to help sick orphans, and is now hunted by said mafia. silver & gold rangers: raised by a faceless government organisation to be scientists/soldiers. Their emotional development stunted somewhere between the ages of 5-10 and are essentially explosion-trigger-happy child soldiers. Surprisingly RPM actually has some of the best humour in power rangers.
One thing the show did get right was having the ballerina character be the one to develop it. There's a lot of pressure on ballerinas to be light-weight and dainty so that guys can lift them properly.
i grew up on power rangers, even before i was an official power ranger fan at about 6, turned out when i was 1 year old i saw the first movie and vaguely remembered it, but basically, i think power rangers is kind of a key factor of how i am now and want to be, as much as i am glued to my computer nearly 24/7 i do want to do good, be there for my friends, help others, power rangers has been apart of my life for so long, even after ive gotten tired of it, i always come back, power rangers has helped shape me as a person, the man within at least, deep in my heart, i could be a ranger

Couple of small mistakes made. Number one - The Power Chamber was 2 seasons old debuting in the inaugural Zeo story and destroyed in the ending of Turbo. The Command Center was introduced in Season 1 and destroyed in 3. Not a major mistake again. Number two - Kendrix was revived in the last few minutes of Lost Galaxy Season Finale not the next season, after the Rangers put the Sabers back in Number Three - Jasper's not a Ranger and there was no Gold Galaxy Ranger
Oof PR is actually based on a series called Super Sentai which is at times way darker than this (along with its sister series Kamen Rider I love it’s similar to PR just with deeper stories and less riders)

Lost Galaxy is my favorite season. RPM and Jungle Fury are also in my top 5. Loved the list though I would have added Master Mao dying as an honorable mention personally.

Quite a few actors from Power Rangers did get together in real life, in fact the actors who played Dr. K and Ziggy from RPM wound up getting married too
yeah and the actors who played Casey and Lilly from jungle dated I think the actors who played the white and yellow rangers from ninja steel are also together in real life
Also I've always felt Mesogog was probably the most intimidating villain of the bunch, since he talks and moves similar to Hannibal Lector and can mentally torment you with psychic powers. Terrifying stuff.

Surprused The Masters Last Stand isn't on here. That was the episode where Cole not only learned that Master Org murdered his parents but that he was also their former friend Dr Victor Alder. The episode also had a FANTASTIC emotional showdown between Cole and Master Org. Honestly one of my favorite PR episodes of all time.
Yeah figures power rangers can be dark at times. Tokusatsu has its fair share of moments... characters dying on screen, being injected with poison, unknowingly killing your friend because they turned into the first monster you fight, mass destruction, murder. You know! For kids!

Not gonna lie... for me some of the darkest episodes were the Silver Ranger Arc from Light Speed Rescue. The poor guy has a cursed cobra tattoo slowly going up his back each time he transforms. And if it reaches his neck, he will die. Sure, everything comes out ok, but it was pretty dark.

I love power rangers! I'll admit I've only watched the original first 3 seasons, the three movies and the show from samurai onwards. To me it truly is the equivalent to teenage mutant ninja turtles. In fact I love that more. Strider I'd love to know your thoughts on the new rise show. It's just fun lighthearted entertainment.
Some of these episodes gave me nightmare when I was young so I took all of my Power Ranger dolls and hugged them tightly while I was sleeping...... ahh memories..

Im gonna be honest... I borrowed the Lost Galaxy complete season dvd set from my library and Kendrix was my favorite... Watching Power of Pink not knowing Kendrix was gonna die was uneasy.... And then Kendrix does die and i actually cried and I still cry when i see the full scene.... It was so dark... But now i know it was done for a reason so thanks Strider
i was a massive power ranger buff as a kid. like being able to quote episodes and exact time-stamps. i had action figures i had vhs’s/dvd’s you name it i probably owned it. i stopped watching and drifted from it after my grandpa passed. i want to look into re watching this series. anyone got suggestions when i should re introduce myself to the series? Edit: I'm still mighty Morphers and I'm loving it. Took me a year to finally start the series but better than nothing.

Zordon's death in what was supposed to be the final episodes of Power Rangers had to be the darkest moment for me as a kid.

So maybe if they had Pyramidas or something Divatox would not have trashed the Command Center.
