It’s not an engine, it’s swapping out an electric motor with one moving part. Whichever way you look at it, it’s not half a billion pounds worth of improvements for the end users. If they had used the money to avoid some of the hugely disruptive tube strikes, that would have improved things far more dramatically.

More recently, Ligne B of the Rennes Metro with 12 subway stations and 3 elevated stations opened in 2022 for €1.3bn and the City centre tunnel of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn with 7 subway stations opened in 2021 for €1.5bn.

It's impossible to fit without sacrificing the trains capacity. Also aircon would make the tube stations warmer. They are warm because the tunnels trap heat. The tunnels use to actually be cool. A new train design is needed in order for aircon to be fitted.

However, fresh new seat moquette and a coat of paint and new motor on these old wagons are a huge waste of money in my opinion. I wish they'd invested in actual NEW F.....G TRAINS, with MORE SEATS & SPACE designed for the commuters instead! I have noticed the same number of seats in the new trains you showed, no SPACE for commuters has been improved here. I have been taking the central line for years and ITS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE & a F.....G DISGRACE OF A LINE if you ask me! Lately there's been daily severe delays, and I have to wait 2 or three trains just to be able to get in, and I have social anxiety I hate it when the train is fully packed. NO SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENTS here at all in my personal opinion. I think TFL should really put their s..t together and make some REAL F.....G IMPROVEMENT on this DISGRACEFUL LINE! but again that's just my opinion, no faults from you, again this is not a dig at you personally, but at TFL! This is nothing really Just retrofitting components that the trains should had from day one, an in the end they don't look any different And why are the Passenger Door Control buttons still there, they were dead meat years ago.
I think because it’s a deep level train, it’s harder to get the clean air to be able to operate an air con system. They’re attempting this with the new Piccadilly line train stock but also because the majority of that line is overground, it’s easier. I am no expert but this is what I’m gathering

They also got CCTV, New Dot Matrix Display, New Wheelchair Accessible areas & new AC Motors which are more reliable than the old ones and have better acceleration.

@@maxslotover7056 Even if they did automate it they'd still need staff members onboard for emergencies. Evacuating a tube train is complicated.

Hopefully. The fines have to be funnelled in to public transport to justify them. Same with congestion charging and ideally ULEZ.
