Look, you fools, if the Brits hadn't saved these artefacts from destruction- when the Egyptians were not devoting the proper amount of time to collecting them- then much of our current knowledge Ancient Egyptian history would not exist. Rather than asking for them back, Egyptians should be down on their knees thanking the Brits for keeping their ancient artefacts safe. And, indeed, as has been pointed out, such artefacts are indeed safer - and seen by millions more people - sitting in the mighty British Museum than any Egyptian building.

The British Museum is in the wrong. It doesn't belong to them. It never did. It should be returned to Egypt. I firmly believe that if the country didn't buy it, it should be returned. Just b/c a country was exploited/looted/colonized/violated in the PAST doesn't mean that the looters should get to keep fxxking them in the future, too. We have the technology to make an exact replica so do so AND then bask in the publicity of goodwill that such a gesture would build.

Egypt should have possession of their artifacts. They should be immediately returned not a question in my mind at all. The British took mummies from Egypt for entertainment purposes at parties. Defiled tombs, unwrapped the mummies and for the finale, burned them in their fireplaces. How would they feel if Egypt raided their cemeteries and did the same? It is about time Britain respects the Egyptian people, their government and returns the ill gained artifacts.

It was created by a Greek king who ruled Egypt as a colony of the greater Greek world and sought to replace Egyptian identity with a Greek one. Saying the Ptolemys are a part of Egypt’s cultural heritage is like saying Andrew Jackson is a part of American Indian heritage. It just represents a sufficient lack of historical understanding. In my country here in the Philippines, a certain artifact property of the church called the "Balangiga church bells" was taken by the Americans during the Philippine-American war. The church bell was an important in our history which dates back since the time of the Spanish colonial rule. A century later recently it was given back to us as rightful owners again. If this is possible to us then so is in Egypt too they have the right to claim these ancients artifacts which signifies rich history, culture and identity of the Egypt.

The Rosetta stone would have eventually excavated whether Napolean had it or not. For someone ailen to the culture of a country, it is not very accurate to say " The Rosetta Stone didn't come out saying it is important". Well, it need not be important to the people who don't belong there, I'm sure it had always been important to the Egyptians. Not having an international tagline saying something is important simply does not make something lose its importance. No matter how much you study about any culture, if you are not brought up in that habitat, you cannot know every bit of it.

The main issue for now should be who has a better track record at properly caring for these treasures and preserving them for posterity.
