While writing lyrics is also a part of composition but sometimes it’s written by another person like translating the lyrics into another language for example. Lyric writing would be the person writing lyrics based off the melody for the song and see what type of lyrics would fit for the melody composed.

Taeyong has a thing with the sky. Long Flight, Blue, now Dark Clouds. Maybe it's a representation of how high he wanna go, he says he has big ambitious to achieve. He also always mentions someone with him (a girl), that is going with him in a flight or dive in the sky or going through the dark clouds, so I think he's referring to tyongfs that are supporting him 🥺🥺🤧 ngl this songs feel a little loneliness too, it makes me worried.

SM totally let their artists make their music, write songs, produce them, choreograph the dances, and do a lot of things behind the scenes, it just depends on them whether they want their artists' works to be released or not, and whether they're given their credits or not.
i'm going to attempt to decode what this means (i may be wrong here) because it's sort of in tune with his messages during vlives and with what i've been feeling lately.
i imagine being underwater as feeling low and sad. you can see the sky which is always open and within reach -just like happiness but you're being forced to suffocate by your thoughts and just,,,,life?

I think the song is talking about how the dark clouds represent the struggles in life and when he says "whales radiating light" then he means that there is a way to solve the problem which the dark clouds are representing (he probably said 'whales' because they are big just like clouds) . Sorry if I didn't explain it well. I just tried guessing by looking at they lyrics 😅.
