Story Points are a relative unit of measure used for estimating and planning work.

Relative sizing is the practice of sizing things relative to each other rather than to an obsolete unit of measure.
In Agile, Story Points are used for estimating the overall effort that is required for work to be fully complete.
The team needs to include everything that goes into that effort. That is:
    The amount of work
    Complexity
    Risk and uncertainty
Story Points combine all these factors into one relative size measure.
It’s important for the development team to remember all these other factors outside of the amount of work when estimating. If user stories are higher in complexity, risk or uncertainty, the story points should be higher in estimation. This is also based on the impact each has on the likely effort to complete the user story.

Finally I understood due to the relative size of animals. Thank you.

It kind of seems more efficient to just estimate a time range?

Yes. They just want to look edgy with this BS 😂

      Time is not always enough.
One task is long and tidious and would take 10h, but anyone could do it.
Another would take an hour, but you would need a professional with equipment.
I think those points are supposed to incorporate not just time and effort, but also equipment, money and skills necessary for completion.

@@kongolandwalker that's still way to abstract. You would still need to put a caveat with every task. For example, if one task is 5 points because it'll take forever, but another task is 5 points because it needs to be done on an expensive machine.

I would definitely use story points as much as possible. But yes, time range would be a good 2nd option.

the actual purpose of story points is to say "our team finished x story points worth of work in x time" to possible vc's, so its not for the workers but for performance tracking on the company side

A lot of effort to say story points are BS.
