Wow I barely started playing viola in 6th grade...Now i'm about to be a senior and I'm doing this piece for my final solo and ensemble. It's very difficult...
i would be unbelievably surprised. this is an extremely techinically challenging. an advanced violist that started at the age of ten could probably expect to start this at 15.

What she is doing now at 6th grade, is great. I’m currently playing this piece 3 years older than her not to undermine her playing but a few suggestions, is that the start has to have more of a gritty spiccato instead of on the string string crossing double stops and the part after the cadenza can be slightly faster and obviously intonation. But at sixth grade it’s already pretty goos

Good playing and I gave her a thumbs up. But 1:38 really disappointed me. This concerto is fake baroque-- actually a Romantic piece by 20th-century violist Henri Casadesus and falsely attributed to J.C. Bach-- and this run should be played hard, staccato, and entirely on the C string. It's a chance to really show off the viola's growly lower register. That's the spirit of this piece. Camping out in first position and playing it across two strings like she does basically removes all of the drama from the passage. Shame on her teacher for not giving her the proper markings here. But, like I said, I gave her a thumbs up.

This is why i love viola. It has a large range of notes both high and low, and has great concertos!

I did think there was something wrong - like my god J C Bach wrote that ?? And I am now disappointed that he did not.
