Great "How To" video....will help me understand the process so when I do it, there will be less chance of a screw up. Keep those video's coming. Thanks for all the video's you have done so far....
Well like the title says it help with traction. I've noticed that the PMAGS can get slippery when your hands get sweaty. The traction tape allows you to better grip the mag.
@aroccop They are Ranger Plates from Magpul. They replace your stock magazine floor plate and give you something to grab onto when extracting them from a pouch or pocket.
@032125 I just ordered my first Plate Carrier a week ago and I'm still waiting on it. I can't speak to the Traction Tapes affect on a vest style of pouche. I can tell you that I keep them inside of a pouch on my rifle bag, double stacked, and haven't had any issue with them catching or ripping. As soon as I get the vest and pouches delivered I'll do a short video for you so you can see how they come out and go in with the traction tape. Hope that helps enough unitl I record a video for you.
Just got done with my first mag. And it looks SWEET!!!!! The front of the mag was a little hard but it came out better then the sides. I think it's cause I put so much time into it. Lol 1 down 20 to go. And thanks again for the vid it helped me out a lot. :-)))))))))))))))
@Flammin1000 No I didn't use any super glue. The pieces are stuck to the magazine with only their own adhesive. So far I haven't had any issues with them peeling off.
I tried your method and although it works really well, I found another method that eliminates one of your steps. I used a standard ink pen and did the shading like you. Once I got an idea of the outline, I started tracing the inside of the indents using the pen until the paper actually cut itself out; it makes cutting much easier and more accurate this way. I too have been struggling finding a good way to cut the traction tape, especially the round corners. Exacto seems to be the best bet.
@TacMan223 I haven't had the same problem as you've had. When the time comes to extract my magazines from a pouch I just rip that thing out, no traction tape in the world will slow me down. I can totally see what your saying, after really looking at how the magazines extract they do catch if you're not forceful. Well, live and learn I guess.
@LDMoss21 Thanks man. Like I said I've had a lot of people ask me to do a video so I figured it was time to get it done. I hope it helps some people out there. I feel like I should have a more technical way of doing it, but it don't... oh well.
@InfidelArmz556 I just got my Condor Quick Release Plate Carrier today, hoping all the pouches show up tomorrow. That's good to hear that I won’t have issues with the traction tape on my PMAG's. Like you I plan on cutting traction tape for my Springfield XD9, I'm guessing it's going to turn out sick. I'll definitely check out your channel and see what you got.
@RogueCivilian Hey man absolutely no problem. That is why I made the video, to help out other people who were curious like I was. I just got to the point where I said screw it I'm doing it myself. Thanks for stopping by, take care.
@MultiSr16 Alright man I'll think about it. Like I said I'm not sure I'm a fan of permanent modifications... that I could never undo what I did if I didn't like it. I could do PMAGs that wouldn't bother me, but I don't think I could ever do my XD or M&P. I could always take the traction tape off if I didn't like it, that can't be said for stippling. I'll keep you posted if I grow a pair and get it done.
Tks just got my tape today now got me a project for the long vacation. I have one question. Do they make traction tape in different colors?on my fde mags it looks sweet but not to crazy on how it looks on the black mags.
@cypherbb6 You know I'm not really sure where you could get it where you live. I get mine from a local hardware store, not a huge chain like Lowes. Although I would bet you money that Lowes would have it, they have everything. Just call Lowes or any hardware store and ask if they have Traction Tape/Grip Tape. Well man I hope that helps, let me know if there is anything else. I'm glad it helped you out.
@evankoeve Thanks man. Not only do they look a lot better but they are now much easier to handle. The grip tape helps more than people think. Just makes getting a good positive grip on the magazine that much easier. Have fun doing it yourself, it's not complicated just take your time. Take care.
@InfidelArmz556 Haha, it's funny you ask that. Yes I have started and I'm actually in the process of editing and uploading the videos of my chest rig coming together. It's going to be a slow process, piece by piece. I'll let you know as soon as I start uploading the videos. I have everything ordered just waiting for it to be delivered, so it will come together slowly but surely.
Your suggestion is probably the same 3M tape have used for over 10 years.... Comes in black & gray & is still 69 cents/foot for the 1.0" wide stuff, also comes in 2 & 4" widths. Favor the syn rubber type, textured very similar to the "Decal Grip" die-cut panels. Can buy 13-14 ft of the syn 3M 1" tape for the cost of a set theirs. Have had the 3M tape on a Glock 34 used weekly in USPSA-IDPA, etc. matches for over 3 years ! Still good 'tho worn a bit, with very little adhesive failure !
@Tmac01baller The thing is I don't have free time. If Im not working I'm recording, editing, uploading, thanking subscribers, answering comments, etc. My channel has literally become like a second job. Ive got hundreds of subscribers backed up that i haven't thanked yet because I can only thank 4 at a time before my comment gets marked as spam. I don't know the specific brand of traction tape, it was a long time ago. I can tell you it's not the rubberized kind but the one that's like sand paper
@308bushmaster That's great man, I'm glad my video could help out. The front can be tricky, glad you got through it. It's funny how you said the front ones look the best. Like I said in my video, the longer you take the better it will look. I can't believe you are going to 20, that is going to take you some time. You should definitely do a video of all the PMAG's when you are done... That is an epic amount of work, good luck.
Cool, i did this on My CRKT sting because i saw this video and i was like YES! Because, i wanted something grippy but the g10 was to expensive and i would have to drill into the knife and alter is alot more so thanks!
@leesurferdude Sweet man, glad I could help out a little bit. I hope you took your time and didn't hurry. I went slow and steady, took my time, and they came out looking great.
great video i do have a question for u. i have a few fde pmags but have been buying pmags just to stock up whenever i find them available and now i have alot of black pmags . heres the question could i spray the traction tape fde and do uthink it would hold up. fde traction tape would be for the black pmags.
I actually went to my local skateboard shop and bought a yard of grip tape used for skateboard deck for 7 bucks! Yes it is alittle more "work" to cut out and shape your own pieces but its a hell of ALOT cheaper and serves the same purpose.
@MustyYetisTacticalHQ I searched a little, and the Traction Tape is obviously made by the Airsoft-Company Star, and will only fit the PMags with the small Squares
MOB grip tape from a local skateboarding shop. Its a very good and super grippy, very rugged alternative, it is more expensive but its worth it in my opinion
@MultiSr16 Yeah man stippling scares me, it's a little too permanent. I don't have the balls to permanently alter my stuff and if I mess up I'm screwed. I'll be waiting for the "How To Stipple Your Kittycat" video.
@andromedarr That's ridiculous. I haven't looked in a while, but when I did months ago, only one company made a traction tape kit for the PMAG and it wasn't Magpul. On top of that I believe they cost around 15 dollars, way way overpriced. That may be different now, I hope Magpul makes the traction tape pieces for Americans as well.
Uh traction tape doesn't suck at all. I have the kit from Maggrips.com as well and I can tell you it's the EXACT same material as I used. There's nothing wrong with doing things yourself when possible and not paying for it. I would be willing to bet money that my grip tape looks just as good as Maggrips. They do have a GREAT product though, can't go wrong with pieces cut for you.
you could use some gloves from someplace like lowe's or home depot.really not a hard problem to fix i would think. and im sure the gloves cost alot less then those maggrip things.
@fatboyR6 Hey dude thanks a lot for the kind words and subscribing. I checked out your channel and you've got a great collection. Although I watched your latest video where you said you sold a lot off, sad. I hope I never have to sell my guns unless it's to upgrade to something else. Thanks again man, take care.
@Tmac01baller Actually it was me that copied Rainier Arms. I came across them like you did and refused to pay 15 dollars for such a simple product. I went out and bout some traction tape and the rest is history. It's actually fairly time consuming, between work and managing my TH-cam channel I definitely don't have time to make the kits... Sorry. To be honest those kits should sell for 8 bucks MAX, not 20.
@MagGrips Hey man that's great someone else is finally making the grip tape for the PMAG's. The best thing is you aren't ripping people off like others are. I've seen some companies ask 20 bucks for a enough tape to cover 3 PMAG's, which is ridiculous. I hate to even ask but if you would be willing to send me a set I can test them out and do a review of them... help get your companies name out. Just let me know, if you don't want to that is completely fine. Take care and good luck.
@MagGrips That would be awesome man. Im sending you a pm with my address immediately. Thanks for letting me test them out and see how they work. Take care.
stippling looks/works better., you ever think about trying that out, its very easy, moreso then it looks, jus buy a woodburner and get started., im thinkin bout stippling my kittycat next
@308bushmaster Sweet man, it's a fun project that adds a custom look to your magazines. So you like the black on FDE but not Black on Black? They do make different colors, not a lot though. If you go to antisliptapeshop(dot)com they have quite a few color options. You could even get skateboard Grip Tape and cut it down... Check out outlookskates(dot)com for colored and patterned Grip Tape. Worse case just type colored Grip Tape in google and look around. Hope that helps man, enjoy.
No it does not, it's soft but it grips awesome. I bought the griptape which was the same thing as what you put on skateboard, i hated it, Maggrips is awesome
@MustyYetisTacticalHQ man i thought the same thing too man., but its soooo easy it aint even funny., jus get the woodburning kit, and try it out on some old pmags of something, jus dot dot dot dot, you really cant mess it up., i too was scared to death , but i did kac rail covers and they came out perfect, and a xd45.., trust me, go to lowes get the woodburning kit for like 20 bux , and give it a shot., youll find it very easy i swear
Well good thing for you someone sells traction tape pre cut to the exact size of the PMAG. Check out Maggrips(dot)com . They are cheap and look perfect when installed, much better than mine.
hello im not trolling..i just dont understand the problem of gripping a mag...i,ve never had a problem. in combat VNam or at the range....stipples traction tape?? stay safe..
Im runnin pmagz ina platecarrier in open top pouches an they go in an out juz fine! Btw, nice rifles u got bro! Luvem both! I 2 have done all my pmagz in treadsafe tape! Also did sum geips on my Glock !! Turnd out killer! Check my vids an drop a comment!!
The idea is good yet traction or grip tape sucks, if you want them perfect go to maggrips.com, I ordered two for my Flat Dark Earth Mags as is shown in this video but mine fit flawlessly and looks truly professional
Great Video, the camera work could not get any better. Very Informative & to the point!
Thanks,

Oh boy, another gun project! Thanks for the how-to. I'll try it on some of mine.
Looks awesome! Solid work. 🔥
Great vid! They look alot cooler and im sure the function better too. I will have to do that with my PMAGs soon
That's a great idea and they look awesome! You should think about selling that enhanced grip idea to Magpul!

@InfidelArmz556 I just got my Condor Quick Release Plate Carrier today, hoping all the pouches show up tomorrow. That's good to hear that I won’t have issues with the traction tape on my PMAG's. @BgOutdoorsSurvival It's a different generation of PMAG. I believe the one with four slots is their newer PMAG.
Tks just got my tape today now got me a project for the long vacation. I have one question. Do they make traction tape in different colors?on my fde mags it looks sweet but not to crazy on how it looks on the black mags.

great videos man!
@cb2k761 Just so you know only get the Magpul if your playing indoors, if you play outdoors then i suggest the King Arms.
@MustyYetisTacticalHQ I searched a little, and the Traction Tape is obviously made by the Airsoft-Company Star, and will only fit the PMags with the small Squares
Great video!
If u put the ranger plate on a winding mag,u will not be able to wind it up right?
MOB grip tape from a local skateboarding shop. Its a very good and super grippy, very rugged alternative, it is more expensive but its worth it in my opinion
@MultiSr16 Yeah man stippling scares me, it's a little too permanent. I don't have the balls to permanently alter my stuff and if I mess up I'm screwed. I'll be waiting for the "How To Stipple Your Kittycat" video.
Hey whats better ranger plates or magpuls?
why did you not do the right side indentations with traction tape?
@andromedarr That's ridiculous. I haven't looked in a while, but when I did months ago, only one company made a traction tape kit for the PMAG and it wasn't Magpul. On top of that I believe they cost around 15 dollars, way way overpriced. That may be different now, I hope Magpul makes the traction tape pieces for Americans as well.
@MustyYetisTacticalHQ In Germany, we can get a Kit of 12 Tape-Parts (matches 1 PMag) for 2.95€/$....and the Grip Tape is even made by MagPul
@MustyYetisTacticalHQ ...some were an easy sell, but some were not. I plan on buying some new replacements soon!!!
@DaytonaRoadster Sweet dude have fun. It's nice form of arts and crafts for gun guys. Enjoy I hope my video helped out a little.
Do the one they sell on maggrips.com feel like sandpaper? I hate the feel of the traction tape because its sandpaper.
Why do some of the mags have longer windos than others?
Great video
what are those black things under the mags?
Do they make this in pink? or perhaps a Hello Kitty tape?
Nice video...thanks! You made me laugh when you said "clicky pencils". Not sure why! :)
I wish I had the patience to do that to mine.
you could use some gloves from someplace like lowe's or home depot.really not a hard problem to fix i would think. and im sure the gloves cost alot less then those maggrip things.
@fatboyR6 Hey dude thanks a lot for the kind words and subscribing. I checked out your channel and you've got a great collection. Although I watched your latest video where you said you sold a lot off, sad. I hope I never have to sell my guns unless it's to upgrade to something else. Thanks again man, take care.
is it nessary to do this if it isnt how does it help???
@MustyYetisTacticalHQ Any news on the review?
@Tmac01baller Actually it was me that copied Rainier Arms. I came across them like you did and refused to pay 15 dollars for such a simple product. I went out and bout some traction tape and the rest is history. It's actually fairly time consuming, between work and managing my TH-cam channel I definitely don't have time to make the kits... Sorry. To be honest those kits should sell for 8 bucks MAX, not 20.
I stippled the area where you put traction tape. It looks the same but permanent.
@MagGrips Hey man that's great someone else is finally making the grip tape for the PMAG's. The best thing is you aren't ripping people off like others are. I've seen some companies ask 20 bucks for a enough tape to cover 3 PMAG's, which is ridiculous. Cool video...I subbed
if you are too lazy to do this like me. you can buy a traction spray paint. paint the mag halfway, up to the top of the window
One thing about it, it sure is a heck of a lot of work!
Does anybody know how well this is going to work with tactical Molle kangaroo pouches?
@MustyYetisTacticalHQ ya as soon as i say another one of your vids with PMags i though "ok, i need to do that tracton tape mod",
hmm i wonder which mag is loaded??
Also instead of useing paper I traced it on masking tape then stuck on grip side and cut out
@MagGrips That would be awesome man. Im sending you a pm with my address immediately. Thanks for letting me test them out and see how they work. Take care.
@BlaDough ohh yeah I know..my mistake...I realized that after I read the description..SORRY!:D
why does the right one have 4 pieces of tape?
stippling looks/works better., you ever think about trying that out, its very easy, moreso then it looks, jus buy a woodburner and get started., im thinkin bout stippling my kittycat next
I've had an AR for years. I didn't know this was a thing.
Thx, im taking these traction tapes off. Tearing up my hands.
Tape kinda breaks up the outline of the mags also. Just an observation.
yes this will be my next job to do
@308bushmaster Sweet man, it's a fun project that adds a custom look to your magazines. So you like the black on FDE but not Black on Black? They do make different colors, not a lot though. @MustyYetisTacticalHQ Cool thanks
well i know what i'm doing this weekend
Ok tks :)

Me too!
nice
@MustyYetisTacticalHQ AWESOME :Dput it on the sides, under the lanyard hole, and in the 4 grooves in the bare metal :D
Well good thing for you someone sells traction tape pre cut to the exact size of the PMAG. Check out Maggrips(dot)com . They are cheap and look perfect when installed, much better than mine.
id do this, but im too lazy...
This is hard LOL
hello im not trolling..i just dont understand the problem of gripping a mag...i,ve never had a problem. in combat VNam or at the range....stipples traction tape?? stay safe..
VN, we're trying to be tactical! LOL
Thanks, mine arne't as pretty as Your, but they do work well.;
Or you could just stipple and have a permanent solution...
