For me this was Gary Moore at the very top of his rock era - just brilliant. The Wild Frontier tour was his greatest and it was no surprise he reverted relatively shortly afterwards back to the Blues he was the master of. I was privileged to see him many times but Hammersmith 1987 will always have great memories of seeing a true guitarist at his absolute best. RIP Gary Moore, gone but not forgotten
It doesn’t matter if Gary is playing hard rock, heavy metal, or blues/blues-rock. Gary is a master of the guitar and his versatility was a huge factor for me in why he’s my favorite guitarist and a big hero and influence on me.
I remember the awesome powerful acoustics at Hammersmith 87, the sound engineers got it just right. Although not a sell out concert! Many rows still available up at the circle.
Wild Frontier / Run For Cover / After The War.....killer hard rock/metal albums. Today i had to show a 43 year old metalfan that Gary was much more than just this "Still got the blues" Guy.
What I adore the most about this particular pack is every each of them are elevating the rest to a whole new level. No one of them is slacking . They are top notch rocking the shit out it. From drums , bass , keyboards/back vocal and the tip of the diamond , Gary Moore. Amazing.
Arguably, his best band during the 80's. As you said, everyone is on fire! I thought he also had a good rapport with his '82-84 line-up, with Ian Paice and Neil Murray (although John Sloman was the weak link).
This son of Belfast Ireland played loud and clear and every note his left hand wrote was magic to the ear......so many tried to copy this Celtic son, they wished to match him but could not catch him his axe slayed them one by one........and so they came and so they marvelled at the hands of young Gary Moore.......Thunder rising........Thunder rising......celtic son rising early in the morning.....my hearts in mourning my world stopped turning Thunder rising early in the morning.
I grew up on listening to Gary Moore and i saw him in december 1984 when he came back to Belfast after being away for 10yrs and he played the Ulster Hall and he invited the great Phil Lynott to Belfast to share in the reunion and they played parisienne walkways just seeing them together its an experience that i will never forget Gary was the best guitarist to come from this wee island and became one of the top guitarists in Europe for more than 10yrs. R.I.P Phil. and Gary.
MrParisienWalkways Indeed. Just awesome! Got to see him live over a dozen times since late 80's right up to him and BB King in a double concert in Bournemouth. His rock stuff from the 80's is still my favourite.
Check out his 2 records with UFO, "The wild, the willing and the innocent" and "Mechanix". Some good stuff on there. A talented songwriter and keyboardist, as well as tight rhythm guitarist (as evidenced by this concert).
I wish I was there... but I was born 10 years later. This was the song playing on the radio, and afterwards the news came on and told that Gary passed away. As the young person I am, I never got to see him live. A thousand thanks for this upload.
Touching words, i'm another who found out about Gary far too late and am regularly saddened i never was blessed with seeing him live. I recommend easing the pain by seeing others play his music through his few tribute acts and the great lizzy tribute limehouse lizzy !! All the best, Connor.
It's been six years and 9 months since Gary passed and it is still hard to believe that he is gone but he will never be forgotten I listen to him every day and watch him on dvd every day just to remember what a talented singer and songwriter and guitarist he was thanks Elena77960 for sharing Gary here on youtube
Loved this song as a younger soul ... Was always upset that the album version started so low then got louder at the end, listening to it live version it's so natural and emotional...
One of my absolute favorite songs. I saw Gary in 1987 in Hannover (Germany). The "Wild frontier" is only awesome. Thanks Gary More to be a part of my life. R.I.P....Gary Moore
One of the greatest guitar players, singers, song writers ever. Thank you Gary Moore. Many young people in Ireland of the early 80s (and now ,I would bet) didn't have a clue who Chuchullain was. Gary knew and he honored his incredible Irish heritage.
Some guitarists make it look so easy and natural people like Hendrix , srv, Phillip sayce, and Gary Moore . It’s almost like the guitar is part of there body.. it’s so cool to watch this performance and see Gary at his best .
Best album and best song from this album of one of the best exactly hard rock(not blues as thinks most of people) guitarist of all the time! Gary - live forever in hearts!
Neil carter is super cool and still is. I sent him a letter once about how I loved this tour and the songs Neil played on and he replied super enthusiastically
I don't think it was any coincidence that Gary started to become more successful once Neil Carter joined the band, an excellent musician and song writer. I think you can look at the Victims of the Future through to After the War and Neil definitely was a big part of helping Gary really create songs and albums that were great.
@@PFB1994 Corridors of Power showed that Gary could do albums on his own, but the tour following it was a bit weird with him first having a singer that disappeared quickly (Charlie Huhn), then one who played keyboards when he was not necessary, which was often (John Sloman), and then Gary having to handle all the vocals himself, which strained his voice. Neil's versatility as a guitarist and keyboard player, not to mention a voice that sounded really close to Gary's in those days, really helped him to reproduce the sound of the albums with just four people.
I was there at Jezebels too, standing on the side, barely 10 feet away from Gary for the whole show. The most intense Unbelievable experience that I'll never forget. I've seen my pal and neighbor Eric Singer play drums with a lot of great bands in his career. KISS, Alice Cooper, Brian May etc etc. But I think this tour he did with Gary Moore is my favorite of all. Gary played every song like it was the last time he would ever play it, from the very center of his heart and soul, and so did the band. RIP Gary. Gone way to soon. You are terribly missed.
A Force to be reckoned with,,,,Gary Moore....Rock, Blues, jazz, progressive...he could do it all...so underrated,,thank God that Joe Bonamassa is carrying the torch now...
15 people didn't like this? 15 crackheads need to explain themselves. This is incredible in every way and I desperately want this whole concert put out on blu ray!!!!
Since I was a kid, I allways loved this song. My older brother played wild frontier album over and over again. I found this live performance while ago, and thought at first, that it's just music video that has audio track from the album. BUT WAIT! It wasn't! Unbelieveable how tight they play together! Masterpiece.
Proves that Eric Singer had a career before Kiss 😜 Remember when this video came out. I didn’t have any money for a concert ticket for the Stockholm gig and was so pissed off
They looked out from the fortress on the hill There came a single warrior returning from the kill The spoils of war hung from his horse's mane The bloody heads of enemies that he had freshly slayed They saw the face, the eyes so sullen Could only be the young Cúchulain [koo-kull-in] Thunder rising, thunder rising Thunder rising early in the morning Cities burning The world keeps turning Thunder rising early in the morning The son of Lugh MacEithleen knew no fear For just one blow at any foe to tell his end was near So many tried to mock this Celtic son They taunted and they teased him till He slayed them one by one And so they came, and so they've fallen At the hands of young Cúchulain Thunder rising, thunder rising Thunder rising early in the morning Cities burning The world keeps turning Thunder rising early in the morning Thunder rising, thunder rising Thunder rising early in the morning Cities burning The world keeps turning Thunder rising early in the morning Thunder rising, thunder rising Thunder rising early in the morning Young men are dying The widows are crying Thunder rising early in the morning
There are some traces of it on After the War (Blood of Emeralds in particular), and the instrumental part of Business as Usual also harkens back to this era. Sadly the Celtic Rock album he wanted to do in the 2000s never got finished, although we did get three new songs on the 2010 tour - Days of Heroes, Where Are You Now and Oh Wild One.
Sadly I first seen him live was at the After the War Tour in Nuremberg. It was an very impressing experience. I had liked it more if he had continued playing Hard Rock.
I have never in my life seen a piano player singing and playing with so much passion.
You are absolutely right I’ve never heard this song before never seen the video you’re right that piano player is a beast.
@@levis6945 Neil Carter of (also) U.F.O fame. Multi-instrumentalist and also a college music teacher.
He co-wrote this song with Gary Moore so it as much his song as Gary's.
For me this was Gary Moore at the very top of his rock era - just brilliant. It's not "rock", it's proper heavy metal.
@@geogeo2299 I'd argue his 80s work as a whole is hard rock, but this particular song (and a few more) definitely crosses over into heavy metal.
I saw him open for Rush in 85 or 86 (Victims of the Future). He blew the roof off the arena!
It doesn’t matter if Gary is playing hard rock, heavy metal, or blues/blues-rock. Gary is a master of the guitar and his versatility was a huge factor for me in why he’s my favorite guitarist and a big hero and influence on me.

Still hearing 2024...pure power!
Gary was most brilliant when he was with Neil. Their voices were similar and a perfect combination.
Hear you big time, it's uncanny with some vocal combos - Gahan and Gore with Depeche Mode are another perfect example. Threads it something beautiful!
Neil Carter really killed it in this one. Massively underrated man!
I miss this man more and more as the years go by.
As The Years Go Passing By
Me too
Such an underrated song. And such a powerful performance here
Wild frontier is my favorite Gary's album. Especially this song, which is my favorite. Thanx.
Carter is a great singer, I really hadn't noticed it before!

Incredible rock player

totally agree, great chemistry, fucking rocks
Arguably, his best band during the 80's. As you said, everyone is on fire! I thought he also had a good rapport with his '82-84 line-up, with Ian Paice and Neil Murray (although John Sloman was the weak link).
You may or may not like Ozzy Osbourne but that's what I like about him as well: he always sings like he's singing for dear life
Gary Moore was one of the best Guitarists
Ive been a Gary Moore fan since the early 80s. I gotta say that Neil Carter was perfect for Gary. Great job on keyboards, backup vocals and guitar.
Я их голоса вообще отличить не могу...

Such a kick-ass song. The energy is nuclear. Has not aged a day. Still gives me goosebumps after 30 or so years.
Neil Carter, great vocals, great musician
love this dude...so sorry he passed so early! played his albums many times on road trips....
❤
I keep coming back to this. Possibly the most complete, intense live performance I've ever seen, and I saw it live back in the day. Fucking awesome.
This can never be done any better
indeed
Every note is unbelievably loud and clear. he was the guitar god.
What a f***ing band this was. Moore, Carter, Daisley, Singer. Wow.
Holy shit, i didnt expect Neil Carter to be this good!
I tried googling Neil Carter and kept getting results for Nell Carter. I hate Google.

Thunder rising early in the morning

For just one blow at any foe to tell his end was near
So many tried to mock this Celtic son
They taunted and they teased him till
He slayed them one by one
And so they came, and so they've fallen
At the hands of young Cúchulain
Thunder rising, thunder rising
Thunder rising early in the morning
