I have a '59 style (single cutaway) Vintage Select Firebird Duo Jet. It's a great guitar. The tone switch back when yours was made became rightly known as the 'mud' switch, but TV Jones persuaded Gretsch a few years ago to try a couple of different value capacitors, and it's made it quite a useful control. I love playing mine, and it gave me the bug - I'm now up to five Grestches, the latest being a BIlly-Bo!

Mal's Duo Jet was a 63 and was given to him by Harry Vanda not George. The Overpriced Money grab MY versions are Japanese manufactured. The Leo Quan was installed in 1976 to 1980 then in the 80's he had a Schaller 455 replace the Badass. His string guage was 12-56 with a wound G.

First off: good video, and wicked cool guitar, but you’re missing the trem arm and a few fact checks…sorry.
Second: Does anyone know what actually happened between Gretsch and Burns?
The Burns vibratos were so much cooler :(
