Australia, but more so Sydney, was the hot-bed of Oz Rock. You'd pay 5bucks max entry fee, to see perhaps the best live music in a pub or club ever...the $5 cost included a meal...there's a steak in every beer!
So true Coogee Bay Selina's Angels Hunter and collectors the Rads, I could go on and on, but what a time to be 18 tthe sweat the spilt beers the cigs fuck I love it ✌️❤️
I happened to be at Blues Point completely randomly that afternoon, and this wonderful noise floated across the water...I was 19yo and was like, "Fuck, that's the Oils!" And so it was 😂
@@zhukie Great story you wont get bands like them anymore the 80s was the greatest decade in music history and who can forget the Australian Made concerts.
They had so many songs with a great message and inspiration. Saw them live in Adelaide South Australia in 84 and they were amazing, love his dance moves, he has so much energy!
I remember marching with the PND (People for Nuclear Disarmament) in the 80s at the Palm Sunday Peace Rallies, and just hearing masses of people singing this song, and others by the oils, as we marched to the rally point. It was amazing.
So glad you reacted to the Oils. This album is the first I bought back in the day and I've been hooked on the Oils since. About the dance culture, I went to a concert when my wife and newborn were still in postnatal care (priorities) and Peter Garrett pulled me on the stage to dance a few songs. Almost as a life defining moment as thr birth of my first child.
Yup remember the Oils in Sydney, met Peter Garrett briefly after the concert he was a bit sore cause he fell off a speaker stack doing that dance 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 Aussie Rock Rules
Saw the Oils a few times after the release of the Red Sails in the Sunset album. Brilliant live and Peter Garrett dancing is officially an Australian national treasure.
Peter Garrett often used to have oxygen tanks on stage when he performed because his head literally, used to visibly steam and you could see it from the audience . His performances were like hard gym work outs.
Some day in the future someone may be on TH-cam doing a video analysis of your video anaylsis of this great tune by Midnight Oil and think, like me, are you even listening to the song? The lyrics?
Saw them once, way back, problem was most everyone dancing and waving arms like the lead singer and because I'm a short person I kept getting hit around the head. That was it, I vowed to never see them live again.

They were such a great band until they wernt. Red Sails in the Sunset album was the end. They invented WOKE. Best pub band in Australia for so long (and I first saw them when he had hair) and then all of a sudden, WTF. Lucky for me I was there that arvo/night thanks to JJJ, at Goat Island. It was their last pub like performance of the classics but between songs when he spoke I knew it was over.
I hear ya mate, I was one of the NDP followers back in the 80's but as I got older I started to see the world in a different light. Many of the kids today that follow this woke nonsense will change their thought processes in years to come as well. Its called growing up and realising you on your own cant change the world. You can only make your part of it a little better for your family and yourself. Not a fan of the current path the Oils are taking. We are all Australian and we need to stop all the division and move on together to make a better Australia for our kids.
I couldn't agree more. I hate to say it, but I feel the oils sold out somewhat after "Red Sails" I still think they are the best home grown act, hands down ever to play live!
One of the strengths of the Oils are their lyrics - I wish you guys would pay as much attention to that as you do the visuals. You're only getting half the story.
are you telling me that after doin the stand in line video you didnt watch the whole concert???????stop wasting your time go watch it now with the volume at over the top level!!!🤣
I watch this channel for the midnight oil reactions, but I really wish the show hosts would stop acting like your all drunk or experiencing manic episodes, because its incredibly agravating to listen to. also, I thought you guys were supposed to be from australia or new zealand because you were celebrating anzac day in previous videos.
So, I made it to 1:14 minutes into the video without anything of value. Pretty sure the "Jon and Dolly" are just garbage on the internet. My sympathies to anyone who wasted their time on this video.
Late 80s dancing to Midnight Oil was exhausting! Their music was like a bomb going off in any pub scene!
Yes this was our local bar scene in Australia, and Sydney was going off in those days . Great days great memories.

Thanks ERIC and thanks WOLF HUNTERZ for supporting Aussie music.
I won tickets to that mystery band concert in a competition held by radio station JJJ. I have never been to a better gig since.
Classic Oils, love it!!!
I agree im glad i lived the 80s the greatest decade ever music now is total SHIT.
One of the best live bands I ever saw…
Me too. Small pub in eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Left half deaf but they were amazing.

Every backyard party had at least one bloke doing a Pete Garrett dance when a Midnight Oil song came on
Peter Garrett often used to have oxygen tanks on stage when he performed because his head literally, used to visibly steam and you could see it from the audience . His performances were like hard gym work outs.
Great Aussie pub rock. Those days were the best!
I learnt to dance from Peter Garret. Oiiiiiiiiillls

Few can play live with compexity into the moden era , the oils broke many molds.

Yeah, it freaks me out that this was recorded when I was 24 and I'll be 62 in a month.
The singer Peter Garrett is KING in Australia

Would you believe that Peter Garret went on to be a politician and was a minister in the Rudd government.
Yes Yes yes, you should come to Australia. But please make it a national tour because I'm in Perth western Australian

The stars and stripes are running for their own big show

Storm brewed in a tea cup
Imagine any mix up and the lot would go
