    • @veronicavance8171

      Danica Palafox usually its a 1:2 ratio so one 1ml of bleach will require 2 ml of developer, but check the directions. all bleaches and dyes will provide a ratio either on the packaging or in the instructions

    I would like to thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I've used box color for 30 + years as my natural blond color started getting darker. I started frosting it. Then went to foil always selecting close to my natural pale blond. After a few brassy problems we decided to switch to a cooler toner. I noticed I was able to go longer before noticing roots so I decided to just stop coloring my hair. It's has been almost 9 months and all color is gone after about 6 haircuts. My natural color is now almost white but more of a 'creamy' white. I wanted to do some low lights just to break up the solid white and my stylist talked me out of it!!. She said I should be thrilled not to have to worry about color fading or root touch ups anymore. what would you or your subscribers do?? I am 68 and am OK with getting old but not OK looking old!!

    I am over 50 percent gray. I was using 20 volume and getting very brassy results. (Revlon Colorsilk 5A) My natural hair was a mix of 4/5/6 - a light-medium brown with some natural blonde highlights. I only dye my roots. (For several years I was using Colorsilk with 10 volume. I think I was still getting brassiness)
    Anyway, I got sick of the brassiness and on a whim tried Clairol Natural Instincts 5A. (demi-permanent) I blamed the brassiness on the peroxide.
    To my surprise it covered the gray roots and no brassiness. It's been a month and it hasn't washed out. My hair in front is cut short with winged bangs and layers. It will probably be cut before it fades completely. (I used a permanent NN in the back where my hair is long)
    The demi-permanent even covered the stubborn gray behind my ears. I had missed that spot with my permanent NN, so I dabbed Natural Instincts on it. I didn't think it would take there but it did.
    I believe the Natural Instincts "activator" is 6 Volume peroxide. I assume the brassiness was prevented due to the low peroxide volume in the "activator". I also noted there were other ingredients in the activator that are not present in my 20 volume developer and vice-versa.
    I'm wondering if I could use a half and half mix of 5 and 10 Volume developer with permanent dye and still have the same results?

    • @marahg8796
      @marahg8796 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      the whole video is well, how you avoid it! lol! :) you need to use 20 volume if (per her example) you are blonde and you want to darken your hair a shade or 2 darker. don't use a 20!! there is no point bc it will brighten it (ie: you will get orange/brassy hair!!!) so use a 10 instead!! FOLLOW HER DIRECTIONS TO AVOID ORANGE HAIR. This video is just saying, you need to use the right tools and use them/mix them by following the directions or else you'll get orange hair. To avoid orange hair you need to use the correct level of developer, with the right combination for your hair type/the look you are trying to achieve. If you go against these directions, for example, using a 40 volume rather than the correct 10 vol when you just wanted to dye your hair darker. It is just like any other thing in life. You need to follow the directions when you bake a cake..... or else it could burn and catch on fire. or your bundt cake sinks. lol. Hair is no different. Mix your color with the correct developer number or you'll get orange hair. It's that simple. It's chemicals on your hair! Chemistry :)

    • @RealityandCommonSense
      @RealityandCommonSense 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Marah is spot on. It is chemistry. Thats why people go to their hairdresser. Its not easy for people to learn in a couple videos. But she knows what shes talking about.

  • @cathyarnett520
    @cathyarnett520 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Some people may not realize that hair is porous and it has a cuticle... so when explaining “ lift” and the various levels of developers, it’s helpful to keep in mind whether hair is previously dyed, is virgin hair etc.- also, these developers, made by various companies , can also be mixed with permanent, Demi , Semi etc. and the results depend on the condition of hair even prior to applying pigment or dye. It’s a helpful video, and I know it’s not possible to answer the many questions that viewers pose. Hair coloring is an art and a science; I’m not a professional stylist... and am only making a suggestion. Thanks. Enjoy your videos.

    Is is best to go for a higher level colour i.e. I want to go for a level 8 blonde, from a level 5-6 ash brown - virgin hair. Should I use 30 vol developer at double the ratio? I have heard that I should go for a level 11 ash which would result in a level 8. So confusing! A video explaining this would be great!

    My hair is pretty light blonde. Like a level 10 or slightly higher. I want to tone down my highlights some to help with the contrast of my roots when my hair starts to grow out. And I actually want it to be a little more golden and less platinum. I was thinking of using a demi-permanent so the change isn't too drastic or too dark. When toning down bleach blonde hair to more of a honey color what type of developer would I use with a demi? Just a 10 since I'm only depositing. I just don't want it to end up TOO much darker. Thanks so much! I am a new mom and don;t have the luxury of getting to the salon as often as I would like and your videos are saving me! :)

      ellebangs I'm having a hard time finding a gold toner. Everyone wants to get brass out so I can't find much to "warm" it up. I have a Sally's up the street. The only Wella Toners they have that don't seem to have an Ash base are T11 and T35. Not sure which one to choose between. Don't wanna go much darker than a Level 10. Thanks so much for your help.

    • @Ellebangs
      @Ellebangs  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shelby Clarke yeah in this case you may need to use a semi perm. color in a gold over it to warm it up a bit. Say your hair is a level 8 and you want a level 8 gold as a result, you should use a level 9g to only add gold tones and not change the level.

    I think not all brands of developers or peroxide lift the same I think some developers lift more than the other especially if you have developers or peroxides more damaging to hair than the other, there is peroxides or developers that contain some certain oil or conditioners so it won't damage the hair to leave the hair soft and not to dry unless those peroxides or developers have a certain ingredient or various ingredients that will make the hair to lift a light color having softening condioners and or oils, the brand name "Swarzkopf" developers called "Blonde Me" have oil but I don't know which one, from brand name "Clariol" the cream developer or peroxide with wheat Ingridents that says it have conditioner probably won't lift to a too light color because it have conditioner also another peroxide or developer like brand name "Ion" for sensative scalp were they sell on the "Sally" beauty supplies that have 20, 30 and 40 volumes these developers look like they won't lift to a high level of color if only used a high volume ike 30 or 40 if you want a like light blonde or lighter than a light blonde, the developers also in cream from brand name "Chi" that says it have ion or some oils look like they won't lift high level colors because of the oil ingredients, I think the developer brand name "Pravana" is the same situation were according to the company called "Pravana" this developer is non drying to the hair, other brands like brand name "Wella" called Kollexton and other developers from brand name Wella say the same thing, from brand name developer "Blond Brillance" that come in a gold color bottle
    promises not to leave a brassy tones with some oil ingredients were they also sell in the Sally beauty supplies and more other peroxides or developers like brand name "AG Beautiful" were the AG Beautiful company say is great for aged women if you see pictures of this product in the Amazon stores were is also sold and there is pictures of aged or old looking women saying that this product is a good product to use without dryness to the hair

      Living Peacefully sorry, I know the question is too old but I used to have your problem, too, with dyes like 5 or 6. Perhaps you might change the brand you are using, as 20 volume is ideal for grey. However, on my own hair I've noticed that 4 and 7 colours work much better. Guess it depends on your hair type, too.

    What happens if you use double 20 volume vs 1:1 20 volume? Does it lift more and how many shades more. Because if you use only 20 volume 1:1 doesn't that dilute it to 10 volume. And if you use 30 volume 1:1, does that dilutes it to 15?
    I don't understand how doing 2:1 vs 1:1 will change how many shades you can lift.

    I am a level 6 blonde currently but naturally have dark brown almost black hair. I have level 8 blonde in some spots with highlights through out. I want to get my brassy dark pieces lighter but not platinum. Id like more of a lighter ash color. Would 10 volume developer work with bleach so i don't not fry my hair or should i use 20 volume to go lighter? I am planning to tone my hair with wella t-14 after as well.

    Can you cover the 90% gray hair with 6nn 20 then lighten it to bleach blonde with peroxide 30 with 10 instead of bleach so it's least damaging and just leave 2 inches of roots dark ?

    Color Glaze: No - Ammonia Color 2 to 3 Shades LIGHTER than your starting shade with 5 vol. Developer (use conditioner to dilute 10 vol. 1 oz to 1oz conditioner OR 20 vol. 1/2 oz to 1 & 1/2 oz. conditioner) Long Lasting Color Gloss: No - Ammonia Color 1 to 2 levels lighter than your starting shade with 7.5 Vol. (1 & 1/2 oz. 10 Vol. + 1/2 oz. conditioner) OR 10 Vol. Developer. Wet hair and towel dry till damp apply color mixture and process for 10 to 15 mins. rinse shampoo and condition. Color Glaze can 'Cool Down' a brassy blonde until a more permanent solution can be done. Color Gloss can deepen or enrich color that has 'faded' between colorings, conceal a few grays or correct reddish tones. 30 Vol. can be used to give your shade another full level of lift when using shade levels 7 and lighter, (great for 'muddy' blondes OR Dull reds ) 40 Vol can give up to 5 full levels of lift for Blonde shades but results may be warmer than expected. It can also make even Dark Brown Hair a very lively shade of Red.

    Q: So if your hair is a level 3 and you use 30vol developer with a 3N permanent, you get 3 levels of lift and the color will lift to a 6N?

      If ur hair is virgin hair and u want a light hair color without bleaching it u cant opt from 10 to 40 volume developer. 10 = 1 level of lift 20= 2 to 3 30 =3 to 4 and 40 = 4 so if u have a natural hair is persay a number 3 and u want to be a number 6 wich is a dark blonde u would pick ur ur number 6 hair dye and and mix it with a 30 volume developer. When it come to hair dyes only the the peroxide will determine how bright and noticible it will be thats depending on whats ur base to begin with. If u wanna go beyond 4 levels of lift u will have to bleach or use a high lift hair color.

    I have dark brown hair with plenty of grey roots. When I use the box color (Revlon, Loreal, etc), I get hot roots (light roots). Is it because the develor in the box is probably No. 20. Should I purchase No. 10 developer separately to get roots the same color as my hair? Thank you.

    Would it make sense when trying avoid orange tones on a level 7 to a high lift 12 ? With a 12 mixed with 20 volume for the full time, followed by a second application of a high level containing a colour toning value, instead of trying to do the job in less time with 40 volume.

    Thank you for this amazing info! I have dark brown hair but previously highlighted with 10 volume (1 shade lighter) and toned with 20 volume. The result was nice but I want 1-2 shades lighter. Do you recommend I highlight with 20 volume + bleach powder and tone with 10 volume or less for ashy finish? It would help me so much if you can guide me

    YES someone please help me.. I've been blonde for about 3 years now. But the last 3 months I've went a much lighter/whiter blonde. No more darker tones in my hair. This is great.. However I'm naturally dark ash grey brown maybe a pinch darker. Now my hairdressers who's a friend does my hair, he only ever does a regrowth, which is what want. Now I've bought all the products he uses.. Tigi copyright powder and wella tonner and developer. HOWEVER! He's changed the peroxide percentage that many times I don't know which one to get. Last time he used 3% and other times he's used 6% can someone please help me out? As I'm gonna be saving money in the long run... I'm a student and gotta eat and have nice hair! Thanks x

      +Rachael Ferguson What she said in the video is 10% is mostly for depositng color (10 volume developer is equal to 3% peroxide). 20 volume is for lightening (which is equal to 6% peroxide). How much lighter you are going will dictate 20 vs 30 volume (or 6% vs 9% respectively). Make sense?

      +Michelle Harmond I did watch the video. I just sound it hard to understand as I'm not the brightest. Also here in the UK we say %. I ended up asking my boyfriends hairdresser and he said I should go with 6% or 3%. But thanks so much for the comment.
