  • In this short adventure I try to circumnavigate the Islad od Scarba which entails going through The Grey Dogs and The Corryvreckan. The strong flows of the flood tide in the Corryvreckan prevented me going right round the island.

My wife and I had our first visit to Scotland a few weeks ago. What a beautiful part of the world. We stayed with a friend out on the coast from Ullapool and the seascape reminded us a lot of where we live in Australia. I just discovered your video this morning and it made me very keen to come back soon to explore a lot more of Scotland, and definitely the Corryvreckan area. I really enjoyed your presentation.

Lovely Donny, just got to the Scarba Bothy part, and seen the Pequot Ware coffee pot on the window ledge, my mum and dad got a full set for their wedding in 1955 and I got one for my wedding in 1977. Right back to the video and next attempt as the white water...

My friends and I love sea kayaking around this area. Strong tides but phenomenal scenery make it very worthwhile. Camping on Eileach an Naiomh was especially memorable, as was visiting Belnahua. Never had the courage to paddle the Corryvreckan, even when flat calm, so thanks for confirming our decision not to!
    Great little vid 🙏🏻
And to add - any wall of water seen from kayak or small boat height is VERY intimidating!

Thanks roy..its one of my favourite areas. I do see quite a few kayaks going through at slack water ..its all a matter of timing and knowing where the eddies run ..Im sure you will manage it one day and it can be a flat calm experience..for an hour .then it picks up again :-D

I cant believe only 116 likes, even if I was not just getting into SIBS if someone had put me on to you I would still watch as many as I could. I am now thinking about Down loading all your video's so I can take them with me on my little Island explores. Thanks for sharing from one old man to another lol. Ray K. UK. YNWA.

Coward no sir what you've accomplished in such a small vessel is impressive, I may have survived 30+mph 8 ft waves breaking in my tiny sib but I wouldn't recommend trying it! Even my last trip out saw 4 ft seas in rough unpredictable chop (uncomfortable) however it's given me the opportunity to develop a technique of "Threading" through the waves to avoid taking an even worse beating, almost feels like piloting a small sailboat a very wet & visceral experience

Its an interesting place Archie..just need a lot of care and not do anything foolish..so saying waves can suddenly appear in front of a wee boat without warning..hence the take care part :-D

Hello Donny. Another great adventure with good historical information. Wish I had a little of your knowledge about the fast tidal waters, it great listen to you explaining it. The tide water round Scarba looked very nerve-wracking. Midge night mere. Really enjoyed watching. Atb Steve 👍

Hi Donny , Yet again your videos do not fail to deliver 👍 You have inspired me to "add to my fleet ", although it would not be capable of doing the trips you do yourself as its just a wee 2.3m Bark with an electric outboard 😂 . It did however manage to take me up Loch Etive in July , absolute heaven ,even if I did get attacked by mosquitos during my coffee stop...😳
