- Demonstration of the 'buff stop' on an 18th century English harpsichord by Longman & Broderip. The instrument is part of the Benton Fletcher collection which is hosted in the Fenton House in London. In the introduction part of the video I give some information about the instrument.
The amazing Ben Marks looks after the Benton Fletcher collection weekly and makes it one of the best playing collections of historical keyboards in the world.

On the day I recorded the video the weather and humidity had been drastically changing as it can happen during spring. Because of this inevitable external factor and the fact that my visit happened several days after Ben's visit to the house, the tuning of the instrument is not as perfect as it would otherwise normally be. The purpose of this video is simply that of showing the effect of the buff stop on this historical keyboard and it was done without any special preparation of the instrument.. nor the music 🙃

What a color difference!
And I think the tuning is good.
The buff stop is indeed very nice, it still guides the base very good.
That 'guidance' in the base is what I particularly liked about using the buff in this piece :-)
The buff stop is a joy to listen to. Maintaining it to full condition can be really demanding, but I think it is worth it :).
What a lovely instrument. And it's a beautiful piece, too, played very well. Thanks.
Thank you! It is a very nice harpsichord indeed.
Lovely sound! What’s the piece you played?
First part of the prelude of suite nr 2 of John Sheeles.
