    I'm glad you mentioned how race plays a massive part in certain artist success. This is the main reason I don't like to focus on sales figures it's more about image/skin color than talent to a vast majority of the world sadly it goes far beyond just music.

    • @jwdathefax377
      @jwdathefax377 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really. I can understand why one would think so about Vanilla Ice and the Beastie Boys. Ice kinda came in hard out of nowhere with a couple catchy songs at the time and the Beastie Boys had a hard, unapologetic “party boy” style that a lot of young white men could relate to. But Em came in during a time where white rappers were viewed as corny before ever even touching a microphone. He wasn’t really given a chance until Dre gave him a co-sign. Now imagine being shunned because of your skin color, only to be told later that you have the success that you have……because of your skin color. There’s a lot of good white rappers out there right now. If this was true, then they all should be sharing the same level of success.

      @@jwdathefax377 I get what ur saying cuz I loved EMs early work but Dre co signed a lot of people and none including Dre himself had this much success as an artist. Em is talented but to think it didn’t play a part in his success is disingenuous….

    • @jwdathefax377
      @jwdathefax377 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@a27dub Oh it does. He admits it himself. I’m just pointing out an obvious difference in talent. After he dissed Trump and later said in a song…” I cut my fanbase in half and still out sold you” it was very telling in what I’m talking about. Basically there’s a lot of people who dismiss his success with simply having a white fanbase and as a black fan of lyricism, I’m not buying it.

    • @Dark-Shinobi
      @Dark-Shinobi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jwdathefax377 LMFAO this has to be the stupidest thing I've read in a minute, all white people don't worship Trump and even the one's that do will still buy a white rappers album over a black one for racist reasons the same can be said of other races that idolize and worship whites. If Em was black he wouldn't be on this list and the media would simply elevate another white rapper to his spot STOP the cap, I know plenty of foreigners that don't like black people or rap but LOVE Em race plays a major factor your delusional if you think otherwise there are PLENTY of talented black artist that rap circles around Em.

    As a millenial during that Eminem reign, this isn’t shocking. White kids at my school LOVED him I mean woooo couldn’t get away from My Name Is.. and then he did that Renegade verse and it was like black folks gave him the official stamp of approval. Hell I even bought Curtain Call 🤣🤣

    • @anthonyanderson9303

      You're right about that cuz I wasn't feeling him at all like that. But after Renegade I was like "damn he out rapped Jay like that?", then when that 3rd album Eminem Show came out I was definitely feeling that. Then that same year the 8 mile movie came out and it was like oh ok yea he like that.

    I loved this. Can't knock Eminem. Not his fault that his album sells the way it does due to crossover. Dude clearly makes his music for the culture.
    I was definitely surprised to see Nelly on there... twice. Hammer was a moment in time for real for real. I even remember them making a special with him, Michael Jackson and James Brown because they felt it was a passing of the torch. He was the whole reason they marketed Vanilla Ice the way they did. He was the Back Street Boys as Hammer was our New Edition. Not bad, but you aren't Hammer and they weren't New Edition. But we knew Ice wasnt strong lyrically. And Eminem DOES factor in for the same reasons that Vanilla Ice was successful. Difference is...Em actually can rap.
    People also forget that some rappers "performed" back then and could actually dance. Hell, even Big Daddy Kane, though considered one of the greatest lyricists of all time ...dude did have his dancers and could do the choreography with them.
    Overall, just adding this to the list of pods I watch with you bruh. This was good. Keep up the good work

    I’ve listened to “The Score” so many times I’m actually sick of it! The people who knew me in high school know I loved that album. As a hip-hop head, this list doesn’t surprise me all that much.
    I am so proud that the Mis-education of Lauryn Hill went diamond, it’s an instant classic with timeless themes and great melodies. I consider it more of an R&B album than a rap record. Not trying to take anything away from her because I think she is super talented. One could argue, if she would have put one or two more classics like her solo debut. That she would have been on hip-hop‘s Mount Rushmore of greatest MC‘s of all time.
    But forget all that, here’s my top five albums from this list;

    2: The Marshall Mathers LP

    Dang, Eminem Show is the only one of his albums I got and I bought it during a phase when I was trying to get legit copies of the albums I wanted. I was surprised it was even on there and I was wondering where Life After Death was.

    I definitely did NOT see Vanilla Ice coming. I'm surprised that Jay Z wasn't on there considering he's a majority of people's top 5 rappers...

    Hammer and Vanilla Ice back then was definitely on top of hip hop. People don't want to admit that, but numbers don't lie. That Eminem Show album is definitely his best work. One of few albums that I can listen to without skipping a song on it.
