Trap music started in the late 80s from Memphis rap artists such as DJ Spanish Fly, Gangsta Pat, and the Triple 6 Mafia collective. Point blank period.

T.i. named it Trap Music after the Trap for the South to have a style of its own. A city with tall buildings was the opposite look of a Trap. The Trap was the south’s own word. Drug dealing music itself has always been made. Master P had Ice Cream Man. I don’t think Lil Wayne says TRAP, though

Why dosent T.I. get his credit as a mogul? The man has sign artist like Young Dro, B.O.B, Travis Scott, Trae tha truth, Tokyo Jetz, even meek mill early on, and even though I don’t like her music, he help make some white girl from Australia (Iggy Azalea) into a SUPER POPSTAR. The word Trap to my knowledge is a term for money. I first heard it thru the Gods of the 5% Nation and that was their language of asking or having money. They would use that word instead of words like Gold. This was invented in NYC as far as that. Now if don’t understand just think of the ‘70’s of the word Cream which is a term for money. Many MCs has use the word Cream on records long before Wu Tang Clan, just like Ghetto Mafia use the word Trap on records long before T.I. Now the south use it different as Trap Houses or abandoned house for a hangout for a gang. Really the same thing cause Gang Members and Bangers definitely get to the money. In the early 80’s on the West Coast when Crack first hit a few years before it hit NY. The Street Gangs of Crips & Bloods got a real spill in their communities. Of course it was a different name of what the south call it. Now me myself is perplex of where did it originate from in the South. It’s a discrepancy of who started what and when first between Atlanta and Memphis with that one.

Actually if hard to make music of what you did in the streets or do. Anybody can rhyme and that’s what Hip Hop was about rhyme skills even Hip Hop had reality rap which they just talk about what goes on their block. They had no perception of being on the radio cause they was inna park. But Trappin is something totally different. That music is a real street culture. Stickly street and not from a Park Jam. Real Trap Houses abandoned buildings for the gang. NYC abandoned buildings uce run a extension cord to a street light pole for Jams. Real different in the south.
