And why do they always believe its a joke?.

I never considered it may be a joke.
I just don't understand the mindset where husbands can't believe the truth.
It's more about being in denial and just the shock of it all mostly. I understand it but the longer it takes to rip off the band-aid, the longer things fester.
It's lazy writing. These authors don't have the skill to set up a realistic affair scenario so they use one of a dozen or so cliché storylines that always appear in these stories.
I could literally tell all my good friends that their wives/girlfriends were cheating and they would absolutely listen to me and take it seriously. They wouldn't blow me off or say "this isn't a funny joke". I'm not saying they wouldn't have some serious questions but they would keep their mouth shut and look into the cheating allegations.
He's concerned about seeing his ex-wifes AP at future events and it bringing back angry memories. But if he has a wonderful relationship with Melissa then he should realize he actually owes Trent a thank you for freeing her up to be with him instead of his cheating ex.
