Team Philo! They just did such a good job painting the love story between vignette and Philo, and Orlando Blum just did such a good job making me love him! Tourmaline is great but didn’t have the tension like Vignette and Philo. Heartbroken
I wish I hadn't watch this show at all , the ending ruined the whole series, like it made zero sense

And he lied and left her because of what Tourmaline asked him. Vin never knew about that.
The chemistry between Vignette and Philo was better because i really felt the romance there. I don't hate Tourmaline at all, I actually came to like her more this season than before, but I don't feel a romantic chemistry with her and Vignette. There is a chemistry and closeness between Vignette and Tourmaline but to me it's that of friendship. It is important, no doubt, but to me, not romantic.
Vignette and Tourmaline pretty much came out of nowhere in terms of a romance. We know they had something in the past, but the show had made it pretty clear that it was a dear friendship now, on Vignette's end at least, not romantic and that she was in love with Philo.
I did not like how the show ended.

Oh, the characte is fine, the marriage just came completely out of nowhere. Feels like "yeah... no one else around... so... let's just marry each other?"
My thoughts exactly.
They found out that the show as cancelled by the middle of the 4th episode in season 2, so a lot of re-writing had to be done in order to wrap up the story (and show) and end it…. thus, we got an ending, but not true to the characters and plot…. 🤷🏽♂️
the writers did philo so wrong and made vignette so horrible to him.
philo gave up everything and was willing to sacrifice himself multiple times for her as she was willing to do absolutely nothing for him.
they really made vignette such a detestable and selfish love interest for the mc philo who she kept throwing to the gutter over and over and over and over and over again where no matter how much he did for her it was never enough while tourm gets the vignette in the end and the only thing she did for her in the entire series was she gave a bed to stay in for a few weeks while never sacrificing anything, never risked her life to save vignette, and never took on the hate of literally everyone just to be with her unlike philo.
agreus and imogen was a massively better love story since they both gave up everything from their high class lives to squaller just so they could be together even to the point they each were willing to sacrifice their lives to save each other and they each did it multiple times.
Knowing this was the last season, they didn't even bother to give Philo a proper ending, as if him not ending up with Vinette wasn't enough of a travesty!! I'm so pissed. Also, Vignette and Tourmaline had zero chemistry, the writing in both seasons suggested that Tourmaline's love was one-sided. The ending of the series was so forced.
I feel like there's some behind the scenes drama between Orlando and Cara for the 2nd season characters to make the decisions they did. Makes no friggin sense.

Well Cara has been deep in addiction, I'm honestly amazed she remained sober enough to film this last season. You can look up news reports on her from before and after filming, she is a mess the poor thing. I truly hope she gets help.
I like Tourmaline but Vignette ending up with her doesn't make sense. Felt forced. Good they ended the show with 2nd season bc 3rd season would be a lot lot worse.
When is the third season
They need to tick the LGBTQ checkbox.
I’m sure this was planned to take place over a few or more seasons but being only able to get 1 more, they to compress all the plot lines into season 2.
I think the show had the funding pulled out and why season 2 fell apart. This show should have gotten a season 3 at least.

S2 is rushed, cliched/predictable sometimes and zeitgeist pleasing in the end.

All the plot twists, great fantasy world and fresh ideas introduced by 1st season of Carnival Row were for nothing. They were just destroyed by the 2nd one. Not “just destroyed”, actually they were firmly destroyed, with fanfares in the background. Basically in the whole 2nd season Philo does nothing except for getting punched. None of his actions and decisions really impact anything (except for killing the sparas perhaps). Series tries to introduce strong female characters of Tormaline (which got by the way better in 2nd season IMHO) and Vini, who got degraded to a low-level Mary Sue that changes her decisions and affiliations like twice an episode. Basically the whole idea with the New Dawn thing, trying to broaden the world by introducing the other parts of it wasn’t really that bad. But it was way too fast. One single season can’t really contain the events that could have easily made three separate seasons. It’s just lazy writing. As you all saw, each episode of season 2 was written by somebody else. Thus, characters in one episode are just variations, parodies of themselves in the other one. We had around 10 minutes of Philo’s split personality screen time and what did we need that for? What did it impact? Whereas great characters like Sophie’s maid or Major Vir (who might’ve been as well Leonora’s lover) didn’t receive almost any of it. The whole love story between Vini and Tormaline doesn’t make any sense - Tormaline said it herself in one of the episodes.
Couldn't agree more. Was honestly really disappointed with the 2nd season

What broke my patience with her was how she just joined the New Dawn guys (which are a problem for themselves, someone clearly does not understand how such revolutions go down the drain - the aren't the ones who intrigue, they are destroyed by them, often enough by the old despots - or new ones). It was one time instantly falling for something stupid too much and destroyed any character grows she HAD TO have.
And yes, sudden ghost Philo was... what? Same for the marriage. There was ZERO sign for that. Also: why can't friends be friends?

I hate the ending. I wish i hadnt watched this show at all.
I hardly share my opinions on such topics publicly on the internet. But yet this time I need to share it. I feel okay with Philo and Vignette not ending up together at this point of their lives/story although I didn't get the sudden change in their relationship in Episode 3 at all. Yeah, they were heading in different directions as they did many times before. They've always had different perspectives and still they chose to love each other. Truly. Dearly. Often heart-wrenchingly yet honestly. I see that there needs change to happen within them to truly allow their love to find peace within both their hearts. It's hard to love during war especially if you have such rebellious hearts like them. So at this point the happy ending between Philo and Vignette wouldn't be authentic and realistic either. But I don't feel Vignette and Tourmaline as a couple. and so I don't feel their happy ending. Yes, I agree this comes indeed forced and unnaturaly. I feel their love though, their true and innocent love towards each other, like best friends who truly see and support each other but I don't feel the romantic love the writers tried to show us in about 60 seconds of Tirnanoc fairytale. Where does it come from? Why should it end like this? Could it not have ended gray and bloddy on the Row? I don't buy into this. I can believe Philo's end speech in front of the Parliament but I would definitley not blame him alone for not ending up with Vignette. Unfinished stories like this often can be very unsatisfying to the audience but forced and unlogic happy endings are even worse and do not conform to the true dark nature of this series.
Halfway thru Season 2,& I was like “What the hell is going on”.. then when it ended-it just didn’t make sense! Tourmaline & Vignette marrying just doesn’t seem authentic at all! The whole season was nothing compared to Season 1.

The story and plot were changed due to the show being CANCELLED during the early filming (by episode 4) of the 2nd season.
A ton of changes were made, stories being shortened and seriously tweaked in order to fit in a total if 8 episodes, instead of the 10 episode’s originally planned for season 2.
Please remember that this series was boarded fir a total of 4 seasons, around 32-36 episodes total….. but since it was cancelled midway through the 2nd season, drastic changes were made, stories, character arcs, motivations and so on were changed, all fir the sake of wrapping up the series.
The only good part of season 2 is Imogen and Agreus

This ending made absolutely no sense to me i dk how we got here Vignette’s love for tourmaline has always been a deep and pure friendship at least from her part that’s what we’ve seen and felt Vs her being undeniably madly in love with philo for years!
season one was really good ... season two was really really awful
I thought it was ridiculous that the vignette ended the story with the tourmaline? nothing to do msm, I thought it was very bad.
- Tourmaline is destined to become evil as a result of the powers received, as announced by Mima (perhaps the villain of next season)
- Philo as the last final lines suggests that we will find out what will become of him and which path he will take
- Vignette marries Tourmaline in the throes of a crisis of responsibility realizing he's always made her suffer, but it's not true love like for Philo.
- Carnival Row is a title too tied to Bourgue and too close to that damn neighborhood, maybe the plot will have to move to Tirnanoc
these and many other unfinished concepts suggest a fake ending.
Maybe we will see a sequel with another title, everyone will say "yes we said the final season is true.... but of carnival row now the sequel which will be called Tirnanoc begins"

This was a God-awful decision, and it was totally obvious that Orlando bloom and her had something happen off camera because the scenes this season were so forced between them, you could tell the actors didn't like each other at all
Alcoholism, COVID, and being cancelled halfway through season 2 was the overall culprit to the demise of this show.
The reason season 2 don't make sense it's because all the writers left at season one due to creative differences so that's why a lot of the plot holes and stuff from season 1 didn't get an answer and it got taken out and the characters are so different from the first season cuz all new writers

In S 1 the chemistry between vini&philo was explosive & in S2 its non existent, Philo whole storyline sucked,didnt feel like a lead character, In 1ep Vini&Philo leaving 2teranac& next episode vini marrying bf there. WTF? S1 was AWESOME! THEY KILLED S2. I honestly kept going back2see if I missed something but NOPE IT WAS HORRIBLE!
The ending was just terrible
I think the reason the second season ended the way and was wrote the way it was, is because they had to work around Cara. Cara is having troubles with sobriety, can you imagine trying to film with someone who is deep in their addictions? It's all over the news and has been for quite some time, I really hope she gets help because she truly is a great actress.
The main reason for season 2 being bad is season 1 all the main writer of the show quit due to creative differences and to work on other shows. So that's why a lot of character change from season 1 a lot of unanswered question plot holes left unanswered answer. Her alcoholism or any other cast member is not really to blame for season 2 being

Tourmaline even mentioned to Vinni that for Pix polyamory is normal so he could join them also would have no problem with it. I think the finale was open enough to suggest Philo may join them.
Agreed!! I am monogamous but I would’ve been perfectly satisfied if Vinny had ended up with both Philo and Tourmaline! I read that the show runners had actually thought about ending it like that. I am pissed that they didn’t. Philo deserved better :(

I found out there is a second season today, and I wanted to watch videos about the first to refresh my memory before watching the second, and I come across this. I went to the end to see the scene in the thumbnail. Unfortunately, I'm sad to see it. I thought Vignette and Philo would end up together, that she would soften a bit and see why he decided to leave, that he did what he thought was best for her, and that she would forgive him eventually. And Philo, being with the one he loves and who accepted him and his origins, to build a life together and be happy somewhere. But instead, Vignette ends up with Tourmaline?? I always thought they had a friendship, maybe Tourmaline having unrequited feelings for Vignette. And I see comments that say Philo was wronged by the show, and he was who I felt the most for! Not to mention it was Tourmaline that have Philo the idea to leave Vignette in the first place! So she ends up messing him up and ends up with his love. It makes me not want to watch the season if it ends like this... 😕
Listen, I was low key shipping Tourmaline and Vignette and I'm happy they get a happy ending. That said I get why all the heteros feel , what's the hetero equivalent to queerbaiting? Heterobaiting?

I was getting romantic friendship(companionship) from Tormi and V. With Philo and V, i was getting old love and true romantic love. Maybe it's cuz Phi and V got more scenes or something, but I'm just not seeing it. Tbh, i think it would've been great if Vignette ended up being polyamorous and chose both of them. Why choose one when you connect with both?
Seriously though, if you're gonna have more than one love interest and/or have a love triangle. SHOW US! Don't tell us, and then pop it in at the end. Where was the longing looks, swoony dialouge, equal amounts of reciprocated intimacy. Having one or two tiny kisses isn't enough, especially if the characters don't even share screentime as much as the other pairing. Lgbt romance can be just as blatant and screen worthy as hetero. Why is it always an added detail instead of one of the main plots like its hetero counterpart?
Really disappointing ending. But the whole season was mostly just that. This ship just doesn’t make sense as there was no proper buildup.

Tourmaline deserved a better chance, no one with her heart and loyalty deserves to be the last chance, not even for the love of her life. I think Tourmaline deserved a story just for her. Vignette and Philo should ended together, as the both were more similar in they way they love and their ideals. Tourmaline was too selfless she could gave her everything, but was one sided love, she deserved to be loved in the same way she loved, and she deserved a second chance with someone with the same higher way to love. Or maybe I would write a different happy ending, not based on romantic love, but how we can become a stronger and better version oof ourselves, there is a lot more that can full our existence.
I was a little heartbroken to not see Vignette end with Philo, but after some thought, I realized that Tourmaline and V used to be lovers in the past. I find it understandable a little for them to be together. I like to think that Tourmaline and V's love story was told from a different perspective of the love triangle (sorry if it doesn't make sense).
I can see where your coming from…however I have to disagree. With a key part of the show being overcoming issues thrown between characters, not properly resolving philo and vignettes romance in a satisfying way just made me angry.
Neither! Vignette needs to go her own way, quit trying to be somebody else's and just be her own for a while. This show was so abysmal, sad, and depressingly soul sucking; I began wishing some characters would die just to give them a little relief. Husband and I binged last week, then watched baby goats being silly on TH-cam for detox. I was relieved when it ended. No more for me. I need maybe something less tragic in every direction to be "entertained."
Just finished this second season. Glad to read that I'm not the only one thinking this sudden relationship btw T and V does not make any sense (after all P and V went through in season 1!!).
This season was pure garbage. Characters who were so touching in season 1 become unbearable, that is heartbreaking to watch. The only good thing about season 2 was the Spara creature. The rest...
So sad that the really good first season got this ending. This serie could have been a masterpiece...
Of course I'm sad and shocked that Vignette and Philo didn't end up together but both wanted something different and not all couples stay together, Philo stayed in the row and is open for a new adventure and Vignette back in Tirnarnoc and is free again and married to Thourmaline and I also found the wedding beautiful❤. Sad that the series was discontinued😢 but at least it got an ending 🧚♀️🧚♂️💍🐑

I didn’t expect this ending at all but I don’t hate it. As much as Philo tried, he couldn’t give himself 100% to the fae. And that was always a problem from the beginning. I think both love stories are quite passionate and strong. Her love for Philo didn’t end, it just changed. I’m happy with how it all ended.

I wish that I could have Vignette and other fairies with maybe the fauns as friends and supporters. Maybe even being able to marry a female fairy. It kind of sucks that Vignette is gayly in love, with Tourmaline. They should make a sequel series to this series, since that isn't going to be another season.

Vignette should have died. We knew Darius would die defending Tourmaline, but Vignette was the cause of so many deaths and mess ups. Meh.
I like carnival row for using some of best song and that things missing in session 2.and also story line is like presenting rough idea.
They were planning on doing season 3 but had to cancel it, so they added two extra episodes to finish the stories of every character.
That's why the ending felt fake.

I feel like they didn't give Vini and Tourmaline's relationship enough attention. So much is spent on the romance between her and Philo and so Tourmaline as a romantic interest was really put aside. I just didn't feel like they put enough focus on them for the audience to connect with them as a pairing. I wish they could have taken more time with it so it would feel like more than a last minute writing decision

Overall the second easons had many, many problems.
The whole New Dawn thing for example. Whoever wrote it has no clue what the problem of such revolutions are. The aren't the ones who create intrigues - they are their victims.
Also very odd to try so very hard to make SLAVES(!) who want FREEDOM(!) and EQUALITY(!) as the oh so evil guys who just murder oh so poor slave holders who torture, abuse and mass murder them all the time.
It's fine to make them brutal. It's stupid up to manipulative to paint them as the bad guys and make them super intrigant people who just want random chaos and death.
That's not how revolutions work. Revolutions work that you got chaos coming from the corrupt despotic system which weakens it, combined with so much pressure on the poor that this leads to an uprise, mostly followed by murderous violence of the system to slaughter the revolution. If not or if th revolution still succeeds, the chaos will still prevail of course (revolutions are rarely driven by order...), which gives space for many intrigues from new wannabe despots and of course also the old ones, what can quickly lead to an Animal Farm scenario, that you simply get the old system back with other faces, so the revolution failed.
This could have been handled much better, instead the writers showed little understanding about it and seemed to care more about pushing the idea, that you should just let the system prevail, no matter if it is fascistic and paint change as bad, so pushing those who want change into sptupid evilness that made little to no sense.
It does not help, that the series does not really give a damn to even explain what that Pact exactly is in the first place, what also made the sudden alliance extremely odd.
