  • They have big, sharp teeth, long eel-like bodies, and they look like they could bite your fingers right off-but Jonathan can pet them. They're Wolffish, and Jonathan visits both Atlantic and Pacific species. You won't believe the amazing encounters he has with these friendly but mean-looking fish.

Fact that I recently learned and wanted to bring here: The Pacific Wolfeel are very affectionate to humans for one particular reason, warmth. You could literally swim to a wild wolfeel and it will approach you, before snuggling up to you just to be warm.

What is it with that? Seems maybe I've read that the high calcium and other minerals content (HUMANS TAKE NOTE!!) makes the fish much happier and tamer! (Do they smile while they are being swallowed by others?! 🤣😄😁

I owned a wolf fish 18 years ago. It was my most lethal and cooperative fish I ever had. It actually swam in an out the net if I needed it to. Only thing was, if it wanted to eat another fish, that fish was a goner. Other than that it was an amazing fish, very smart.

Great video! I live just up the highway from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which we visited frequently since it opened in back in '84. Their wolf eels were always my favorites. The way their tank was built meant their little cave was right up near the viewing glass, so we could really take a long look at these guys. Always a good time.

There’s a lot of endangered animals in those markets that should Never be eaten also. Certain crushed up horns only contain keratin - hair/fingernails/toenails are the same thing & only serve a purpose to the “living” animals they came from. People in those countries need better education on that very topic. They’d get 100% more health benefits if they use their droppings instead but that would only start another illegal trade of factory farming rather than paying to collect it. Those meat markets are nothing more than a business in cruelty which is proof of lower intelligence. Any idiot can resort to basic, primal violence, cruelty & greedy overindulgence to the point of extinction. All for the sake of status? It’s shallow-minded & pathetic.
      I think I’ve overstated & that’s my stupidity.

I just saw this video. The camera work was absolutely fantastic! I really enjoyed the interaction with the wolf fish. It reminds me of a time that I dove a shallow reef in Florida and was feeding pieces of hotdog to a blenny.
