Yes, the two Phyllostachys species have edible shoots, the Phyllostachys edulis (moso bamboo) is particularly good for edible shoots. I plan to thin out the old culms and use the bamboo canes for plant supports, then if there are too many shoots in spring I will eat the smaller shoots, but it will be a few years until I harvest the shoots for eating as they are currently a bit small and I want my plants to size up and fill the space.
Not yet, I will probably make an update video in autumn once the bamboos have put on this seasons growth. So far the Moso bamboo is shooting well with lots of shoots to around six foot, the spectablis has loads of new shoots, although they are not huge and a little floppy. The fargesia are getting bushier and slowly getting taller, the Chusquea has bushed out a lot and is starting to send up thicker culms. I also have a new very rare Borinda papyrifera which I have added to my collection.

yes it's normal for some, but the ones getting out after spring are small.
it's an Aureosulcata, not a Spectabilis, the spectabilis has reversed collors, green with yellow stripes.
If they get too dense, could you harvest and eat the shoots?
