Defendu was the curriculum W.E. Fairbairn & Eric Sykes taught to police officers, thus it contained a lot of arresting holds.
The curriculum they taught to the military and to SOE & OSS they simply called gutterfighting.
Sykes trained the SOE recruits while Fairbairn was loaned out to train American OSS.

Going through the videos to edit them, I kept thinking to myself “I have to train with this man while he is still able bodied”

American Southerners call American Northerners "Yankees". South Americans call all Americans "Yankees". But, I have never heard a Canadian or Brit say that. I'm a Yank to you, sir. By the way, are we forgetting Canadian Bill Underwood???

I think the word Yankee morphed from a native American word for the English, or whites. Just something I heard, but I'm in Scotland so maybe not fair to be commenting on North American stuff

I've read that it was originally applied to New Yorkers, and stemmed from all the Dutch who lived here. The 2 most common Dutch names were apparently (supposedly?) Jan and Kees. Put them together and you get...

I don't believe Churchill said the US/Canadian unit was the best Commando unit in WW2 as no British leader would say that over the British Commandos who eere the first!
