Man, you've grown since the day I discovered you on reddit. How long ago was that even. Proud of your dedication for this channel and also the carnivore diet is showing results. Keep it up !
I really liked this homestead video Nick! And you’re hardly a clueless 22 yr old!! I watch you because your content is smart and interesting! Hope you and your family are feeling better !
I’m glad you did this. I’ve used wood stoves, prefer a wood stove, and I learned something today.. the acid in wood will disintegrate the metal, didn’t know that!
I remember having a wood burning stove in an old house on my dad's farm in Alberta. It was nice and warm. That is a well built wood burning stove. Hope you and your family get better, as soon as possible. Cheers, Nickolas!👍👍✌️
Hey buddy. Nice to see you Glad you’re still at it. I have a medium Winnerwell stove for camping and I love it. I have a video or 2 in my channel somewhere lol.
I'm in the Poconos and my home is heated by propane. But whenever we have a power outage I lose my heat. So I have a big wall mounted propane heater that doesn't run off my actual house heater and it doesn't require electricity so it's perfect for those time's we get power outages from ice or heavy winds. It's like those wall mounted brick heaters but without the bricks I forget exactly what kind it is as it was put in year's ago and we only use it when the power goes out in the winter. Now I live in the country on a lake and the winds are bad this time of year so power outages happen often and this wall heater keeps us atleast comfortable with just a slight chill in the house. My home is a 3 bedroom but my kitchen living room ans dining room are all essentially open too each other and the bed room's are along the one side of the house with the separate propane wall heater between 2 of the rooms just off my living room so it does well when we need it. But being I'm 43 I've had some experience in the past with wood heaters and I do miss having one at time's. They heat great but without proper care and maintenance can be a huge fire hazard and some people don't realize this. Any form of heating is a potential fire hazard but imo wood burning stoves are the most dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. And that's why alot of insurance companies won't allow them in rental properties. But if my back wasn't as bad as it has been getting I'd love a wood burner again for sure.
Great video Nicholas Dad made a nice wood stove. We had a wood stove, pellet stove now mini split and solar. My backup is a propane and gas 13,500 watt generator.
Wow! A very informative and timely video. Just about 28 miles north of San Antonio and wood here is going for $400 a cord. The price to have them stack it is $75 and they always short us. But we need the wood… I just live this video. Love your house too. That is an amazing wood stove. Hope you and family get better quick and stay that way.♥️
Solar panels and hybrid heat pump with combi boiler. My pops though has a log burner. Nice to see and read all the different ways people heat their homes.

Haven't seen one of your videos in a while, you are getting extremely Good at speaking and getting your message across, I'm glad to see young man, you have a bright future ahead of you!
Been heating with wood my whole life and have it toasty 76F and it is singe digits outside. I cut my own wood off my property and it is the perfect fit, plus it doesn't cost me a dime. I have a wood furnace and it heats very well.
Personally I feel like it depends on your situation. However, I am biased because I absolutely love a good old fashioned wood stove. They may get your house absolutely blazing, but they have a wonderful charm, and you can cook on them if need be. I’d gladly have to do the extra chores to keep up with it than not have one. Wonderful video as always!
Besides the hard work of cutting and splitting the wood, did you mention the bugs and spiders that come in with the wood, smoke damage that does occurs over the years. The dirt and bark that gets scatter about when hauling in the wood. And people MUST MUST sweep and inspect their chimney’s every year or sooner if necessary. But yes! Wood stoves are definitely great! I’ve had one for over 30 years and never worry about freezing here in cold Montana. Great video!
I live in Wyoming and heat with natural gas with a wood stove backup. I'm a big believer in having a wood stove. Regarding new stoves: A new EPA stove with a reburner will use significantly less wood than an old wood stove that's just a metal box. There's another TH-camr that switched from an old stove to a Hearthstone with a reburner, and his wood usage went down over 75%. The disadvantage of course is that a new stove with a reburner will be over $2000, and you can buy a lot of wood for that amount of money. But you will probably break even on wood usage if you are heating full time.
Thank you for sharing so much knowledge. Perhaps common sense and the ability to think is not dead after all. God bless you and yours. Wood stove building would be an excellent skill to have. Even for a solitary soul. Adventure on!!
How far it's come bro, I remember when that blizzard subscriber special video first came out. 500k subscribers now! Wild! Good work man, inspiring to see the consistency
Loved this video! Would love to see more of where and how you live, with being semi remote. It Intrigues me coming from a city in the UK where we take simple things like heating our homes for granted because we don't have to put the work in for it
That was a wonderful informational video. Thank you. You’re getting better and better at public speaking :) By the way, please do do more videos like this. I really wanna have my own homestead someday I’m working really hard so that can happen by the time I’m retired but hopefully before. Most of the Homestead videos I just don’t like the people. They are trying too hard. They’re not truly being real and you’re a very real young man so please do share more.
You may be young. And think of yourself as a clueless 22 year old..and no doubt I believe u have a lot of live lessons to learn and experience of living to instill wisdom...I think you have much common sense and a good head on your shoulders. You sound like a bright youth and know what direction you want to go in. I'm in my early 40s. Born and raised in central California. I salute you and your way of life. Continue doing what you love. I enjoy watching your videos and learning from them and seeing your progress...not only as a content creator improving his craft but as a boy turning into a man. Your parents should be proud of who you are and the hard work you have completed. The first video of your channel I saw was you in a small tent in your front yard during a snow storm. And I have seen many of your vids. Keep doing what you love.
facebook type in free firewood ... people have trees down everywhere sometimes cut up ..looks like a nice stove should heat good , i like the outdoor stoves blowing the heat in like a tsc wood furnace you can build a jacket around any wood stove or furnace
Hey nick !good bid on wood stoves. We had them custom made. Like yours. We would get a wood cutting permit from a state forest .plenty of work but it was fun back in thr70s and80s pellet stoves are a pain ive replaced blowers ,augers ,and circuit boards...
Dam i remember you as a little kid now you're a young man. Lol keep up the great work much love from Lawton Fort Sill Oklahoma * * * THE GERBLAXICAN * * *
I have a couple cord stacked in my barn in NW PA. Haven't used it though. My gas bill is only around $600 for the year. I really need to start selling firewood. 40 acres with about 20 wooded.
Nick you use an electric fan to move the heat through the room and house. Have you thought of heat activated fans, they run off the heat from the wood stove. ( no power needed )
Hahaha, I had to pause the video half way through to go out and haul a sled full of firewood to the stove. Look into TEG units, Thermal Electric Generators. You can attach these little gadgets to your stove and attach a heat sink to the cold side, even just some radiator fins and you will get electricity. I have seen them work, just small scale, one 2x2 inch TEG cell running a small fan with no batteries or plug in, just set the fan on a hot stove and it starts running. Larger scale you can attach a bunch of the 2x2 TEG cells to the stove or chimney pipe and wire them all together and run that into a solar charge controler. The solar charge controller will get a constant charge from your stove just like it would get a charge from solar panels, then you can charge batteries just like a regular solar panel unit. I need to test this, I live in an RV trailer in Northern MN with a wood stove heat only and solar panels for my only electric. Solar panels are very limited in winter so I need to test out turning my woodstove into a 24/7 trickle charge to make up for the darker shorter days.
Wood burning stove and fireplaces look great, produce good heat, burn a ton of wood, unless it's built really well, then it burns a 1/2 a ton. Pellets are expensive, and always going up, the liberator is a great pellet stove design, one of the best, and it doesn't require electricity. Then there's propane heaters, non electric ones are very inefficient, electric propane heaters are very good heat fast far and wide, but propane is expensive. Then there's kerosene heaters, been around forever, non electric, and heat extremely well, there is some smell, but running correctly and maintained, very little smell, not expensive to run but, most run on kerosene, diesel, or heating oil. Many ways to go, myself, I'd choose a kerosene heater, or the liberator as my backup, both effecient, require no electricity, both multi fuel capable, the liberator is Pellets, or wood
Pellets require manufacturing. So the fuel will cost. We have tons of wood in Iowa. Path clearing has produced tons. The person they in our area burned the recovered wood. Waste of fuel. Love you Nicholas .
When you say 12 cord. Is that full cords (128cf per cord) or 1/3 cords (face cords)? Either way $500 for that amount of wood is a deal. The Amish are good business people, they are getting rid of waste wood from their pallet operation and people are getting great value firewood. Pellet stoves are also available available as gravity fed, so no electric power needed. Your father is a talented welder. I was thinking I've never seen a woodstove made with diamond plate sheet metal.
I had a wood stove in my house growing up ,but y’all gotta clean that fan behind you it’s dirty probably blowing dirt and dust everywhere, Get a new one bro
We have many cats. They are smart enough. They love laying around it. Cats can sense heat quite well. We did have one jump on it at first. But with her reflexes she was off in a split second.
I liked this video a lot Nick .

Nickolas Green the TH-cam machine! Nice video Nick.
I think this is probably the best well put together informative video I've seen about the pros and cons of owning a woodstove.
This was a great video. I'm wicked biased & love a woodstove. The stove ur Dad built is incredible.
You have progressed a lot since your first video. Glad to see you keeping it going

Luckily the wood we get has no bark. So we don’t have to really deal with bugs. We get alot of those wooly bear caterpillars though!
Good video! 👊🏼

I have one of those fans. It doesn’t move enough air for the house. For a smaller cabin or tent you can notice for sure.

12 cords for $500 is nuts. Where do you store that much wood and keep it dry?
We keep it under tarps, and we stack the wood on top of wooden pallets.
Is 12 cords preparatory for a whole year with extra?
When you say 12 cord. Is that full cords (128cf per cord) or 1/3 cords (face cords)? Either way $500 for that amount of wood is a deal. It was 12 full cord after we split and stacked it. They sell the wood by the giant dump bucket full. Also there are some cool stoves out now!
Ive done 20 cords for a guy the past two summers... im.sick.of wood
Second
I had a wood stove in my house growing up ,but y’all gotta clean that fan behind you it’s dirty probably blowing dirt and dust everywhere,
Get a new one bro
Nice stove but invest in a proper chimney before you burn your house down
I've considered a wood stove but I'm concerned my cats will jump on it and sizzle their feet. I don't need vet bills.
We have many cats. They are smart enough. They love laying around it. Cats can sense heat quite well. We did have one jump on it at first. But with her reflexes she was off in a split second.
