Great alternative to the magic keyboard! I’ve been using the MK for a few weeks now and think MK is far superior and worth the price premium for the following reasons: - Non kickstand design means you can use on most surfaces just like a regular laptop - Ipad being held magnetically is just convenient when you want to remove the ipad and hold and use it in all its glory. Plus its super cool, the floating design - Better keyboard typing experience (well most probably since using mac pro keyboard technology) - Pass through charging, now the usbc port can be used for other stuffs like connecting to external display, thumbdrive etc. Also charge cable looks very neat using the pass through port of magic keyboard. - Nice and slim, looks great when folded - Don’t need all the extra edge protection, I’m putting it in my bag anyways - Great hinge tension, feels better having a keyboard that is not so flimsy on uneven surfaces and folds away very nicely - material is underrated. Love it, I don’t think everyone will enjoy the semi denim design on the logitech - Absence of function row is overstated. As a mac user, I’ve not missed it much at all as I can use multitouch as well as control centre (the only buttons I missed are the keyboard backlight up and down, no biggie) One thing I like about the logitech is the pencil loop. For the MK when you put it in a bag sometimes the pencil would drop off somewhere in the bag Overall though its a very decent alternative as it uses the smart connectors instead of bluetooth, and uses power from the iPad to drive it, ao much better than all the other choices. Good luck for those deciding on which to buy!
I like the look of the MK material too, but it gets SOOO dirty over time from the oils in your hands, and there is no way you can clean it either! After awhile it looks absolutely gross.
I have no idea how they do so well. They collect the bare minimum info about a product... comparing the surface laptop to a macbook they didn't even touch on the fact that the surface was a touchscreen device. I don't get it. Max also complained about the Pocket Cinema Camera not being more vlogger-friendly.
Thanks so much dude I was trying to find a video of how the Logitech folio works with the keyboard and not a single video I could find that showed me how the keyboard actually works So thanks And you gained a new subscriber today(me)
Excellent comparison. I didn’t really start using my Apple keyboard/case until COVID and I was increasingly using it during videos and chats to type and share, I found the Apple keyboard case frustrating to type on, especially in a dimmer area as I work on video so my office is a little bit dark and not having backlit in that environment made me even more frustrated. I wasn’t 100% sold on the magic keyboard because of the price and the lack of function keys and when I saw the logitech had that and it also protected the Apple Pencil, I was sold. I decided not to get the trackpad because I really didn’t use it but I think this is been absolutely great for me.
So you were definitely right about the Surface Pro 7, a jack of all trades but a master of none. I had found that my work was more enjoyable completing it on the MBA over completing it on the Surface Pro 7. The other thing too was I had found that when I would plug in my MBA into a external display over connecting the SP7 into a display, the display would automatically pick up my MBA but not always the SP7. The display I am currently using is the USB type c Dell 27 inch. So I ended up taking back the SP7 and exchanged it for the iPad Air 256GB and the Logitech folio keyboard to go with it. My work work will be done using my MBA while my personal work will be done on the iPad Air. The iPad Air is a lot more versatile than my MBA. Great video and thanks for the comments.
Great video but is so upsetting how no one ever goes over suitability of the case for students/artists. I just wanna know how strong the hinge is, like will it maintain its angle when I'm resting my palm on the screen while writing?
Great Review, as always... I’m glad I got my Magic Keyboard for my 2020 12.9 and would have made the same decision today (plus they don’t make one for the 12.9).. Thanks, Stay Safe and be well..
My biggest hangup with the magic keyboard is the lack of stability of the Apple Pencil. When you grab the whole case, you have to make sure you don’t grab the side with the pencil. It can fall out while carrying it. Laying it on a car seat also dislodges the pencil. I’m a little mad at apple for missing that. They should have added some kind of flap or sleeve to secure the pencil. Especially for $350.
The greatest reason for the magic keyboard is that the screen is much more reachable. One of the most impotent feather of the iPad is that you can interact directly with the screen. For that reason there aren’t functionkeys weren’t and won’t be
My Magic Keyboard I don’t regret one bit! It’s more of a dock. I attach the keyboard when needed, but I like that my iPad is an iPad! I hate cases that add bulk. I bought it cause it’s thin and silver. My phone is the same way I hate cases lol
Thanks for posting the comparison! I have an older Logitech keyboard case for my iPad Pro. It’s mostly great. However, the biggest problem is when the case is closed and you are carrying it on the hinge side (not the pencil side), if you squeeze the area above the function keys, it will press "Play" and start playing music. This even happens in a tightly filled backpack. Would you please test your new Logitech case to see if this happens?
4:00 I think it’s actually just haptic feedback whenever we press down. Cuz on my MacBook when I press down on the trackpad when it is powered off, I don’t get any click sensation. It’s super neat
Very good comparison review. I have a 2018 12.9 Pro so not in market for either keyboard or case ( now at home using IPad on stand to raise visually, Logitech K811 keyboard and Magic Trackpad-for travel I use Brydge w/o trackpad + MT.). I have the Logitech Slim Keyboard with smart connector for my gen 1 12.9 IPad Pro. The stand didn’t hold up terrifically but still functional. Assume they have improved and like how this one is made much better. When I upgrade my 12.9 Pro in the future I hope I have a similar choice between Apple and Logitech cases.
THANK YOU for showing the tap-to-click option on the Folio Touch. That had been making me CRAZY that I couldn't just tap and actually had to click all the time. Now I'm content again. LOL
Hey buddy, long time viewer here lol :) Man, I can’t believe apple didn’t design the magic keyboard to have a solution for the pencil. I know it has been an issue for you Nando.. Prince.. 93 :) Have you found any 3rd party solutions for stowing the pencil along with the magic keyboard yet? I’m typing this on my Logitech ‘keys to go’ which I tuck into a pocket that is on my 3rd party iPad Pro 12.9 2020 folio case. It works fine to tuck this small keyboard into the pocket and there is an elastic slot for my Apple Pencil, but the typing experience is not the greatest and of course I have to charge the keyboard and all that. I will likely upgrade to the Magic Keyboard, but I guess at this point I’m still waiting to see if perhaps Logitech has something better for the 12.9 in store. Thanks for all your videos Fernando. You are a genuine and real TH-cam tech guy and it’s appreciated. Don’t completely sell out to PaperLike etc haha. Peace!
Hi! This will only apply if you have a 2018 iPad Pro...There is a sort of add-on called the iBlaision Halo Case, and though it was made for the Apple Smart Keyboard, a lot of Amazon reviewers say that with a little bit of finessing, they were able to use it with the Magic Keyboard. Hope this helped!
The Jam Space darn! Hopefully they make an updated version soon then! You could also check out the SwitchEasy CoverBuddy. It was made for your proposed combination, but my hesitation is that though it does provide a little nest for your Apple Pencil, the all-around protection of the iPad is abysmal. If you’re not as clumsy as me though, I recommend it, haha!
The size of the Trackpad dose not bother me you get use to using it. When at the desk I tend to use the Magic Trackpad 2 the most when I need to use the trackpad.
First off, thanks for this pleasant review. it informed me about aspects i wanted to know more about. How's the weight difference between both? I can imagine the Folio being bulkier and heavier...approaching laptop weight.
I like how you compare every single detail side by side. I currently have the smart keyboard. Never liked the idea of track pad for $300.00. I was going to buy a mouse but lucky me for this Logitech folio touch, I ordered me one after this review. Thanks!
Good review however one small pickup, you mention the trackpad “drivers” and how Apple have given Logitech access to them and not Brydge, my understanding is that the reason the Brydge keyboards with trackpads have issues with latency and problems with accurate inputs and smooth scrolling is because they’re using Bluetooth to connect the the iPad whereas the Apple magic keyboard and this Logitech folio touch use the smart connector which draws power from the iPad directly and is much faster and more reliable, not a driver issue, different technologies and almost certainly why Apple created the smart connector in the first place.
Nope. It’s way more than just the slight delay using BT. The Brydge ones were made before Apple officially introduced the fully baked cursor support. They are just going off the “universal access” pointer support that Apple added for accessibility last year. Logitech got a head start because Apple let them in on the secret and gave them early access.
Space Cadet I suspect that it also has something to do with the physical connectors for the smart connector, these will have to be official licensed parts which will probably cost a lot if they’re available at all to third party vendors. Apple have probably invited Logitech in early so that there is a “budget” alternative to the magic keyboard. Personally I’m really excited that there’s an alternative to Apple’s ridiculously priced magic keyboard. Which do you think is the best trackpad implementation?
Apple must have a contract with Logitech to add just enough crappy "features" in their folio touch to make people think again about a magic keyboard. 1. Thicker than the mk, but no extra USB-C port 2. surface-like stands design means you can't use it on your lap comfortably 3. the case material will definitely wear worse than the mk and get more scratchy over time 4. removing the iPad is a big hassle essentially trapping it there forever, no reason they couldn't have used magnets and still included a lip for edge protection 5. the fact that the top case doesn't separate from the keyboard like it does for the 10.2" iPad is the biggest head-scratcher. The keyboard is the heavy part, same with the mk, in that case you just remove the iPad completely, even if the mk hinge folded back the whole package would be way too heavy to hold, like a Macbook Pro. In order to play with Apple's drivers and to have them boost you through the Apple Store, I'm convinced that you have to produce a product that's "not quite there" when it's competing with something Apple produces. I'll bet it's why the Brydge isn't supported by Apple, it's actually the kind of full-featured keyboard accessory you'd want for your iPad Pro, if it had Apple's smart connector it would fix all of the issues people have had and would probably outsell the mk.
Nick Siekierski I guess one of the reasons why the keyboard can't be removed is because the smart connector pins are at the back which is different from the normal 10” ipsd?
It’s not a head scratcher, it’s physics, the connector in on the back, so the keyboard needs to be attached. Same if brydge got a licence to use the smart connector, they would need to permanently attach a back cover to the keyboard....
I am having trouble getting my backlight to stay on on the folio. Even with it set to 60 seconds if I stop typing it goes to sleep and hitting any key wont wake it up. I have to hit the backlight key to wake it up. Any ideas???
Are they releasing 12.9 inch also how loud is the click on the logitech version compared to apple. This is really important ;/ if anyone knows when they will release it PLEAASE lmk
Jordan Wood bridge can probably catch up with hardware if they try really hard, but they don’t. Since Apple doesn’t give them the software and the allowance to use the smart connector, they only give it to Logitech.
I would love it if they released a 12.9" version. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Maybe Apple is afraid that have a version for both would eat from their sales too much. But hopefully if there's enough demand from comments online, Logitech would release a 12.9 inch one!
@@joseyang5098 because the weight and the bulkiness would just be too much at level where it is almost unusable. It would be like holding a laptop from 2012/13. Those where so heavy and bulky and that's not a good experience
@@adamyounes6244 They already make a 12.9 keyboard case which has kindof the same bulky bumper protection around it, so making this model for it would not be that much of a difference. I've read somewhere they are releasing it next month.
Fernando, can you let us know how the back lite function works, I just got mine and yesterday and I cant get the keyboard to light up and there are no instructions to reference, thanks for any help you can offer.
Can someone with the Logitech keyboard answer this: When does the keyboard and trackpad stop working? I have the original Apple Smart Keyboard folio, and it only starts working once the bottom aligns with the keyboard. This prevents continued typing when i have it in “tablet mode,” but i cant seem to figure out how it works with the Logitech one. Thank you!
You must be one of the first on TH-cam to compare the 2 keyboards. Does the Logitech keyboard add much weight to the iPad ? Pity you can't get the Logitech keyboard in black.
Actually, I bought a cheap "Yoozon" Folio style keyboard for my iPad 11 Pro 2018 because the one I bought from Zagg (of which I paid $129.00) broke at the hinge. I would not recommend buying the Zagg by the way. But the Yoozon does everything the Logitech Folio does, just without the trackpad. The keyboard is quite nice as well and is backlit. It does need to be charged via micro USB occassionally but the really nice thing about it is you can remove the keyboard unlike the Logitech so I can actually leave it in my bag. This is nice when you want to consume videos or want to type out a quick email or note using the glass keyboard as part of iPadOS. It has a "kickstand" style support similar to the Logitech too and the range and angle is quite similar. I expect Yoozon to come out with a trackpad version in the very near future but it will probably be more than the $35.00 I paid for it. I will probably be sticking with it since it works just fine for what I need.
Can’t wait for them to come out with Logitech for 12.9 so mad it’s not out already but they prob have some kind of deal with apple. It’s prob already made. There was no way I was gonna get the mk. Completely useless to me for that price. But this is a good price for the features. Glad I can hold the Apple Pencil cause that magnet isn’t really that strong and I’m tired of it rolling off. And I can use the item in tablet mode without having to have my iPad completely naked to do so.
⚠️ NEVER UPGRADE to the latest version of LogitechControl, the app the Folio Touch uses to work with the iPad. IF like me you do so, a bug will disable the trackpad. No matter how up-to-date your iOS is, how many times your shut/restart your iPad, install/resintall the app, connect/disconnect the Folio Touch. It's just gone and reduces your Folio Touch to nothing more than a Key-To-Go (another Logitech bluetooth keyboard, just $100 cheaper). Don't believe me? check the Apple Store ratings and read the users comments for LogitechControl. The bug was first reported 4 months ago but to this day Logitech still haven't found a fix.
I’m thinking of getting the 12 inch and from what I’ve heard the magic keyboard is great...however it’s too much...no matter what you say...despite that the folio doesn’t do a 12 inch version....even if I hear great things about both...this ‘life decision’ is sooooo hard 💩😅

Sliding the pencil into the folio's top flap should also stop the battery drain on the pencil.

By the way you can prop the kickstand up on the backside of the keyboard. If you look at the pictures on the apple store you will see how that’s done.

Hello. Thanks for the Video. How does it feel like when writing with the Apple Pencil?
Just had the opportunity to open mine and really like the Folio Touch keyboard. A better experience than the Smart Folio by Apple.
Has there been by any chance any firmware updates on the Folio to improve the touchpad?
I am having trouble getting my backlight to stay on on the folio. Even with it set to 60 seconds if I stop typing it goes to sleep and hitting any key wont wake it up. I have to hit the backlight key to wake it up. Any ideas???
Which iPadOS software are you on?
Fernando Silva 14.3 developer
Transplant Helper that’s probably the issue. Any issues i get with my iPad I’m saying it’s because I am on the beta
Are they releasing 12.9 inch also how loud is the click on the logitech version compared to apple. This is really important ;/ if anyone knows when they will release it PLEAASE lmk
Great video. What made you get a 11 inch iPad Pro in addition to the 12.9?
Adnan Gajraj 11 is the old one and he doesn’t want to get rid of it I believe
Would love to know if you think companies like bridge will catch up or are these types of accessories limited to Apple and Logitech?
Jordan Wood bridge can probably catch up with hardware if they try really hard, but they don’t. Since Apple doesn’t give them the software and the allowance to use the smart connector, they only give it to Logitech.
14:35 did the Ipad attach to the back of Magic Keyboard??
No
What's the thickness when iPad pro is installed on the combo touch?
Why don't they give us a 12.9-inch version?
Alex Shaw : because most people use 11 inch version. Mine is also 12.9 inch version.

Tony S I believe you just need to update your iPad
Nice video, thanks for sharing
How did you do to get rid of apps from home page in your iPad 12.9’ ?
I really would like to get a Folio Touch but unfortunately my iPad is 12.9’..
you just move them to the second page. This has been possible for many years.
What wallpaper is that for the 12.9 inch?
I don't see that option anymore? is that gone? is there any other way to change it?
It would have been perfect if the folio has a black color option.
Outro bom vídeo, contínuo dividido entre os dois! Keep on
I switched to the Logitech folio cause of the function keys …. A good step !!
does the usbC hub plugs in fine with logitech folio touch case on ? like this, images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61BAbMxbdNL._AC_SL1500_.jpg
Great! 🔥
Where can I get that wallpaper?
Where can I get the Logitech folio touch case in Canada?
Apple.com
Can someone with the Logitech keyboard answer this: When does the keyboard and trackpad stop working? I have the original Apple Smart Keyboard folio, and it only starts working once the bottom aligns with the keyboard. This prevents continued typing when i have it in “tablet mode,” but i cant seem to figure out how it works with the Logitech one. Thank you!
Abraham Flores you flip it back!
Wouter L. Thank you! I might be getting it soon, I just never saw any reviewers mention that! :)
I didn't know you could have an empty home screen like that on the 12.9 inch iPad. Eerily similar to Mac just based on that home screen.
You must be one of the first on TH-cam to compare the 2 keyboards.
Does the Logitech keyboard add much weight to the iPad ?
Pity you can't get the Logitech keyboard in black.
Great video.
What is your wallpaper!!!?
For the logitech folio touch when you flip the keyboard all the way to the back you can use the flap to magnet the keyboard so it won,t fall out.
very good your videos, I would like to ask a question, what is your nationality? Seeing your name look Brazilian, am I right?
I will probably be sticking with it since it works just fine for what I need.
yo what's your iPad wallpaper ?
Can’t wait for them to come out with Logitech for 12.9 so mad it’s not out already but they prob have some kind of deal with apple. It’s prob already made. There was no way I was gonna get the mk. Completely useless to me for that price. But this is a good price for the features. Glad I can hold the Apple Pencil cause that magnet isn’t really that strong and I’m tired of it rolling off. And I can use the item in tablet mode without having to have my iPad completely naked to do so.
Omg I thought he was sitting
I’m thinking of getting the 12 inch and from what I’ve heard the magic keyboard is great...however it’s too much...no matter what you say...despite that the folio doesn’t do a 12 inch version....even if I hear great things about both...this ‘life decision’ is sooooo hard 💩😅
haha I know, iPad accessories are getting ridiculously expensive!
maybe at 20k subs ill do a giveaway for it!
Does anyone know which keyboard drains more battery?
When you flip back the keyboard and use the iPad, are the keys disabled?
Yes
@@salehghafri7185 Thanks for letting me know.
Who watches movies on the iPad with the case essentially closed? Those are viewing angles. You can’t see anything.
Yes you can - that angle is very useful.
Does the iPad locks itself automatically, after closing the Logitech Folio Touch Keyboard?
yes it does!
Anyone know where can I get the Logitech keyboard in Canada?
I don’t know, but they sell it on the website so if you can order it from there. That should work
Can you lay it down flat?
iPad Pro wallpaper please ?
viewing angle of closed ipad? bro
Apple needs to go back to the drawing board and redesign the magic keyboard. Logitech keyboard looks more user friendly
