The callsign PAT25 (Priority Air Transport) means that the Blackhawk is from the Army's executive flight transport unit. In this audio, ATC gives the helicopter a traffic advisory to be aware of the jet at his 2 o'clock position. The Blackhawk pilot acknowledged seeing the jet, and said he would maintain visual separation. However, the helicopter pilot may have mistakenly thought the advisory was for another jet that was nearby. His attention may have been diverted by that other jet, with catastrophic results.
From the video I saw, it looked like the plane was coming in at the helicopters 9:00 - 10:00 o'clock position, so if the helicopter's pilot was looking towards his 2:00 o'clock position (to his right), he was looking the wrong way and didn't see the plane coming.
Thank you for the info. Another person who was interviewed on another channel said pretty much the same thing you said...the helicopter pilot was apparently distracted by the wrong plane, what he thought to be the jet air traffic control warned him about. Such a heartbreaking tragedy for all involved.

For the bird to t-bone the jet where it did, the pilots 2 o'clock position is the plane ascending WELL ahead of PAT25 to the right. Not a worry for PAT25. The bright landing lights at PAT25's 10 o'clock IS a big problem. The yelling? The 3rd crew member seeing the lights to the left/ahead of them. The helicopter passed left to right in the video. You can see the helicopter pass in front as evidenced by the dimming of the airplanes' landing lights right before impact. The helicopter was told to maintain visual separation with the rj they said they had in sight since they previously requested to go visual separation versus radar separation with atc guiding them. They were then told to pass behind the RJ(regional jet), but they passed right in front of instead. If they passed behind there wouldn't have been a crash.

A black hawk can maneuver to avoid t-boning a massive passenger jet. Helicopters are very capable especially a mfn black hawk, it's like comparing a sport bike vs average car. You don't need ATC when you have eyes and can see you are on a collision course with a Jet, they could see the lights, it was even more bright because it was landing and the gear has lights...this is so sad and this could have been easily avoided, it seemed very intentional.

Davison Army Airfield is the primary location for helicopter VIP operations at the Pentagon and their pilots are qualified for both day and night operations somehow there appears to be miscommunication between the pilots and the tower as to which jet Blackhawk crew was looking for. Remember this is crowded Commercial and Military airspace where you basically have to thread the needle because of all the areas that have fully enforced airspace restrictions because it's the national capital region designated by both the military and the FAA
This may not be perfect but this is what I hear. 0:55 ATC: "PAT 25 do you have the CRJ in sight?" - PAT25: "The aircraft is in sight." 1:16 ATC talks to a different un-related aircraft with the callsign of 472. Sounds like OMG in the background of the tower, may have witnessed the explosion? 1:39 the tower instructs other aircraft callsign 34 to 3000 feet probably either to clear the area or to continue to destination after takeoff, This audio does not reveal much unfortunately but may be a loss of situational awareness from both ATC and the chopper, the CRJ would have been on a stabilized approach and most likely not at fault. Of course I don't know, I'm just a dude on the internet.
Both are responsible under faa laws and regulations both are responsible pilot of both the airplane and helicopter have training to tell them where they should and shouldn't be flying and air traffic control also responsible
In the video there was an aircraft turning in front of that arriving flight, maybe that’s the aircraft the AA pilots were looking at and didn’t see the helicopter converging with them. Wow. So many questions. Sad. 😢
Helicopter should never have been in the airspace of a passenger flight . A plane on approach and on takeoff are already committed to those actions and have no option to change course this is not a accident it’s a complete failure that caused the lives of everyone involved a accident is spilling wine on a white dress or backing into another car because you miscalculated your distance this is criminal negligence.
Pilot here: PAT25 said they had “CRJ traffic in sight, maintaining visual separation” which I find disturbing. Pilot recognized and admitted to having the CRJ in sight and a few seconds later, crashed into it. The mental health of this pilot needs to be called into question. Because i seriously doubt he lost sight of the CRJ at night, in VFR conditions that’s quickly.
Looks deliberate...the aurplane has its route programmed the Blackhawk is one of the helicopters with outstanding maneuverability...unless the chopper pilot was blind. 😢 🙏
@@farrahtittle6675 It was meant for the commercial jet following the accident aircraft. The ATC rightly closed the airport and was likely sending that plane to BWI Baltimore to land there.

The yelling was just other staff inside the tower.
People expect accuracy from a "legitimate" news station.
You can hear the collision alarm on the tower... Wonder why it failed to go off sooner
The air traffic controller must have known the situation! 🤔
should’ve put subtitles
Put the subtitles urself..TH-cam lecture.
i don't think anybody can really make out anything being said here.
Maybe you should worry about putting up accurate, coherent information instead of putting up "first" gibberish.
Speculations , just to gather more views for money is the main goal nowadays .. not facts.
There should be no problem with law suit payouts. The government has a lot of money.
My condolences to all.
Absolutely should not have happened.
Why would you in the clip when she’s talking about hearing yelling in the background?
Leave the cliffhangers for soap operas.
I'm sure well hear about this all week and its already old to me!.
News because... it's NOT THE NORM for two air crafts to collide in mid air.
Switch to runway 33 ... well there you have it folks with eyes to see ..
@@RiggedVedist That’s a very very standard approach to DCA. Line up on Runway 01 the. switch to Runway 33. Just about every other aircraft does that.
@executivesteps yeah so it's not newsworthy but they are making sure that 33 is in the narrative..just sayin
Starts at 56 seconds
We can hear people in the background saying oh my God air traffic controllers
Both are responsible under faa laws and regulations both are responsible pilot of both the airplane and helicopter have training to tell them where they should and shouldn't be flying and air traffic control also responsible
This is crazy. 2nd. And Secondly. Idk what happened
....sad.
In the video there was an aircraft turning in front of that arriving flight, maybe that’s the aircraft the AA pilots were looking at and didn’t see the helicopter converging with them. Wow. So many questions. Sad. 😢
This is shitty, rushed journalism at its finest.
Seriously, Black Hawk helicopters have built in stealth technology.
It's visual and auditory stealth. Blackhawks still light up on radar. This was just a freak accident caused by human error.
No, they don't!
Looks like that Blackhawk flew right into it like it was on purpose. …That explosion was huge!
@@Lord_Lykan night training mission is my guess
@@FactsAndEvidence You making hysterical guesses.
It is the drones' fault.
It seems like both aircraft may have been given confusing information on where they were expected to land.
That audio sure cleared things up. Amateurs.
where is the Defense Sec.?
The audio of the tower personel talking is Terrible. Static and inaudible.
The pilot's mental health called into question??? Why?
And why is EVERYTHING a "mental health" issue?? EVERYTHING.
Not making light of the situation, but what the heck are flashing green lights? I was today years old when I saw flashing green lights.
What a waste of time. NewsNation should be ashamed.
0:54 Your welcome
Looks deliberate...the aurplane has its route programmed the Blackhawk is one of the helicopters with outstanding maneuverability...unless the chopper pilot was blind. 😢 🙏
Something is off with this
You mean with u
Does he say, "Go around, climb and maintain 3000" or something like that? Isn't a go around when something isn't right for the first try on a landing?
@@farrahtittle6675 It was meant for the commercial jet following the accident aircraft. The ATC rightly closed the airport and was likely sending that plane to BWI Baltimore to land there.
Was the Blackhawk broadcasting ADS-B?
To me, it looks like the helicopter flew into the plane on purpose….
stop this
@ It was going way faster. It looks like it just flew right into it. That’s all I’m saying. That’s what the video looks like to me.
@@FactsAndEvidence You used the words 'on purpose' .. then deny it!
Or it could be no different than 2 vehicles crossing thru an intersection perpendicular to eachother and their paths lead to a collision. I suppose when that happens one vehicle is blatantly targeting the other depending on one's location while viewing the incident.
@ true
Welp. That was a load of useless information. Great job guys👍
Rest their soles my heart goes to the victims and their loved ones
Do they need Dr. Scholl's?
The controller screwed up… bound to happen. This airport has had controller issues.
Let the confusing cover up begin. Isn't odd that all these News channels have the same headline that a Passenger plane collides into a Blackhawk Military Helicopter as if somehow our eyes are failing to see that that Blackhawk Military Helicopter flew straight into that AA Commercial descending aircraft!! This is an horrific aviation failure at the highest level, my God.
My prayers to all the victims of this tragic suspicious incident 🙏🏼, and salute to our first responders and their recovery efforts.
put the cc on at 1:48 and it says " Back if we want the weapon "
weird
I heard weapon.
PAT=Priority Army Transport
Time marker ~01:01 I heard something inaudible/partial "separation" word mentioned, then at ~01:15 hear some yelling in the background (oh dear God hold on?) as mentioned by the newscaster? Noisy audio. If the audio contains times between discovery of critical separation discovery and time of incident, not much time taking appropriate action.
Something is off here.. you could hear passengers in the cockpit yelling “oh my god”? Why? Why were the alarms ignored?
@@FastGuy1 So, the passengers were in the cockpit? That's highly irregular.
I wonder who was on the helicopter or the flight that they wanted eliminated.
Yeah , unknown and uncontrolled Drones .,Are not a danger , to air traffic right ???
This is you to get control of your airspace.
PAT = Priority Air Transport
Really? That was nothing
😞RIP
RIP to u too
The helicopter was flying on autopilot. 😮
What a useless audio recording. If the media can't get audio because this is ongoing investigation don't play something useless.
Get the genuine flight manifest: who was the target??? This was intentional. Very likely, a remote controlled helicopter.
Yep!! Flown by my neighbors dog.
The audio is inaudible and sounds like gibberish…
Only air traffic controllers and Pilots can understand air traffic controllers and Pilots this video should have had subtitles otherwise it's just gibberish to the average person
This is litterally the worst news coverage I've ever seen or heard bar none. Useless, speculating, and imformationally void.
What language was that?
ATC
@@BayouDiddy That is called English, as spoken by ATC and pilots.
Ghetto ATC
@Strazman nobody in that spoke english
@@kippesolo8941 as a student pilot, I can tell you that that was all English, though spoken very fast and some of it was unintelligible due to the transmission interference. But I promise you, that was all English.
Either way it’s bad but I hope it had nothing to do with d e 👁
Someone crying in the background
What the heck, we couldn’t hear anything of the pilots communication, if you can provide a good/ clear coverage, then don’t do it!!!
Everything was perfectly clear. If you’re not a pilot, it’s easy to get lost in what was being said.
You tube silence videos audio information.
