    Have been enjoying your articles in the Stockman Grass Farmer and what a wealth of information here on your TH-cam channel. I run around 25 beef cows in Spartansburg, PA so we are practically neighbors. I am wondering do you open your farm up for any type of tours or have any classes on winter grazing/ stockpiling for us lucky folks who live in the snowbelt. Keep up the great work!

    Thanks again for all your videos! I’ve been feeding in a certain area in our pasture to get the biology going. I did this last year and you can see the difference. This time I made it bigger because I have more animals but the manure and leftover hay looks very even throughout the section. I moved the fence a couple weeks ago because every spot I had hay down had some kind of manure because the snow all melted and I didn’t want to dump good hay on the manure. This next section is getting a little puggy with the frost coming out of the ground. I started to feed hay closest to the water and working away from it. It definitely helping with less pugging since they are walking on the hay. The hay I’m feeding now has a lot of grass seed so I bet I will get more diversity of plants compared to last year. I might have to give this section a lot of rest time though. I’m ready to be done with the mud season. I want to plant some native plants. I saw you did a video on planting multiple years of cover crops then plant the native plants. Would you recommend doing that or just plant it in corn stubble with a no till drill? It has been a no till corn and soybean rotation forever.

      You could plant right into corn stubble. Just make sure there isn't herbicide residue. I like the cover crops as they break the cycle. Corn will do the same thing. Thanks for Watching!!

    I've had blue birds all winter here in Massachusetts. I need to build some houses for sure. As always great insight on grazing practices

    Our spring is still a ways away. I suppose a manure spreader with the rear beaters taken off would work well to spread out hay.

    • @RussWilson

      That is a great idea. It would work well. Thanks for Watching!!

    Interesting bale dropping machine. Large square bales could work well in my situation, but are slim pickings in my area. I love seeing how other people run their operations and handle different situations. I appreciate you taking your time to make videos and explaining not just how, but why. Thank you sir.

    In my opinion, a problem could be that the nest box is black. In summer it could heat up so extremely that you can hardly touch it

    • @RussWilson
      @RussWilson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heat could be a problem. The birds usually fledge before the super weather. Thanks for Watching!!

    I made some of these swallow houses last week and set them on t posts in my fence line using 2” pvc that sleeve over the posts. I’m excited to see how well they work. I noticed you said 35’ apart, I assume you meant 35 yards?

    • @RussWilson
      @RussWilson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I meant 35 feet apart. Tree Swallows don't mind neighbors. Blue birds do should be 100 feet apart for them. Thanks for Watching!!

    Do you like this bale feeder better than the old one?

    • @RussWilson
      @RussWilson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do like it better than the other one. I split the axle and made it the same width as the buggy easier to pull in the snow. Thanks for Watching!!
