    Suggestion if you're going to make a cut through from the battery to the radio - If you don't have the capability to stitch around the hole for support (like a button hole) put a piece of duct tape on both sides and make the cut through all three layers. It will be less likely to rip the material.

    I've had the same bag for a year or two. Fantastic piece of gear. I've outgrown it for some POTA ops because I'm fond of my AudioTechnica over-ear headphones (luxury item that takes up a bit of space), or alternatively, I use a nylon 18L day-pack for ultralight hiking, but the Shangi-La is still getting plenty of use as a gig bag for band rehearsals, where I don't need to bring my full stage rig. I'd highly recommend it for compact applications. Even if you don't wear it as a fanny pack (which I never really did), the belt is still plenty long enough to wear it as a sling bag.

  • @barrybogart5436

    I think I have the same bag, but I bought it for photography. But I used an old camcorder bag for my KX3. For the soft bag, I could put in my IC-703 - no tuner needed, and quite a few Milwaukee M12 3A batteries. They give me 12V (not 13+V), but the 703 will run on 9.6V. Add an EFHW and I am good to go. I could add my 6m and 2m SSB HTs too.

    Suggestion: Swap out that dual band antenna for a signal stick (bendier - yup, it’s a word) and add a 19 inch counterpoise with a ring terminal to add to the 705’s ground. The 705 doesn’t like most HT antennas and the SWR is sky high otherwise.

      Just getting back to this - I think it would fit, but would take some effort to make an "operate from the bag" setup - the 12ah battery is an odd size and you might need to find something to recover the space or get a more rectangle vs square model (lay flat in the bottom under the base)

      Weird

    • @darylnd
      @darylnd ปีที่แล้ว

      @@temporarilyoffline I've received this from Greg Popovich / KF2M, Icom Technical Support:
      "Mainly the grounding is for safety purposes. If there happens to be a difference in voltaqe potential between the radio and power supply. Example if you lose the ground on the power supply. If you happen to touch both the power supply, and a metallic part of the radio (adjusting the antenna, or a metal cage for the radio) you could complete a ground circuit. It is good practice to have everything bonded to ground for both safety, and noise reduction."

    Getting one! May I ask how you got the LDG tuner to work with the 705? I have a Z100A I would like to use. Duder, thank you for your expertise!

      I got to the bottom of pikes peak, but didn't have time to ride up and down before my flight home... Next time.

    Thanks for great idea! I chose the 17" Large bag for extra room. Works great. Everything fits and easy to transport. Not my SOTA bag, but my SOrTA bag. :) 73. de KK7PW

      This has been my favorite bag so far. Its a perfect fit for the IC-705+NanoVNA kit inside. Glad to hear you like it too!
