But in this video, we focus on the origins of the bus - how motorised trolleys based on the VW Beetle were the inspiration for the humble van which has now sold over 13 million. With archive footage and photos courtesy of VW Commercial Vehicles, we discover how the #VWT1 or VW split screen was less than a year old VW transporter conversions began and unexpectedly created the most famous VW camper that became an icon for the flower power generation.

Our VW sweetheart is a '58 camper bus I found abandoned in the woods, tipped over, stripped, and left for junk. After 3 years of TLC, she's back on the road and performing wonderfully, creating new adventures together in the Land of the Midnight Sun. Truly an icon.

I always have a question for these VWs - are they called "bus" all along or just in the US? what's its model name? Is it Transporter? Why people call it the VW Bus in the US?
Names are always a challenge with the Transporters! So many nicknames ...and different ones in different countries. As far as i know, "bus" was never official. Unless someone knows better!
VW needs to bring the Van back, but not that Routan which was a Dodge with VW trim...
