Steam in China - Chengde November 2001

China was visited in November 2001, the first destination after landing in Beijing was Chengde, which is around 140 miles North East of Beijing. The line was built to serve a local steelworks, but due to the steep nature of the railway, all the trains heading up to the steelworks required banking engines, which were attached around halfway to their destination. Unfortunately, the banking station was in a restricted area which meant that we were unable to take any shots there. Look out for the smoke ring at 3:38!
