Keep in mind, your client list won't grow overnight, and it also might not be steady growth. I would have some weeks where I'd be really busy, and the next week I'd only have one or two clients. But as the months went on, I did eventually get to a point where I became fully booked up. Trust the process, keep working hard, and people will come to you!
Thank you sooooooo much! I'm about to leave cosmetology school and need more insight to social media for marketing. That was VERY informative, I definitely need a separate page for my Braiding business.
giving stuff away, what I did was I ran a contest and for every 5 people that you tagged, that was another entry. You had to like and follow my page, and tag people in the post, and in the post I made a collage of ALL my favorite work I’ve done. And then I selected the most popular person who had the most influence on social media and she worked with people ALL day. So I did her hair for free and this post grew my social media by 300 people! And got me 10 color appointments before I ever even picked a winner!!. So I gave away a Shadow Root, and gained SO many people! I recently moved, so I’m doing this again in my new area. I would never do this regularly, but at the beginning of a new social media account it really helped me establish myself online
That's awesome and so smart! There's definitely a strategic way to go about giveaways, but you're not really just giving something away completely for free, because you did get something out of the exchange.
Thank you for this quality content 👍 even 5 years later you’re still helping and obtaining subscribers (like myself today) from it. This is what I call doing something right, once-and-for-all.
The discount one hit home for me. I'm a tattoo artist and twice a year I used to do giveaways to get new clients in who wanted my style of tattooing (Realism) instead of the usual fine line stuff clients usually want. Every single client I've gained through these giveaways was impossible to work with, cheap, delusional and entitled. Yes I got some nice pieces for my portfolio but almost all of these giveaway clients ended up on my black list as soon as I was done doing their tattoo because they made my life a living hell during the time I worked with/ on them. I'm sick of these discounts and giveaways and I'm never ever doing one ever again as I've learned my lesson. You're right. They never come in after consuming the discount, they just wait for the next giveaway to come. Thank you, amazing informative video!
Thanks for the help! I’ve been an assistant for a couple years and finally been 4 months on the floor as a commission based stylist. It’s been real rough but I will definitely keep trying to find the right kind of clients!
You're literally my favorite beauty/cosmetology influencer. You're so raw and real and you have great advice and great stories. I had my beauty school orientation this morning and we did some ice breaker exercises, one of which was to write down who/what inspired us to attend cosmetology school. I wrote you down. :) Thank you for inspiring me and giving me the pushes I needed to finally decide to go to school.
I'm about to start cosmetology school and stumbled upon your video and just had to say thank you! This was super informative and helpful. I feel that much more excited and prepared!
Just amazing tutorial! ❤️ I'm from another side of the World (Kiev, Ukraine) and this is very useful video for me to start with my own nail salon. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thanks a lot!
I recently graduated cosmetology school and am behind the chair 1-2 days a week and haven’t really had much luck getting new clients that aren’t friends(I don’t want to do my friends) I can’t wait to implement your advice and see how my clientele grows
Great advice Sam! I'm going back to school for cosmetology and I'm excited to break into this industry from my last career that no longer served me. I used to be really intimidated with social media but your tips are giving me a lot of confidence about it! Keep up the amazing work!
Your vids are literally the best! I love all of the tips. Just graduated beauty school a Little over a year ago, and finally ready to find the right salon! Your vids helped me gain confidence to put myself out there. Thank you ❤
Literally couldn't have come across this video in a more perfect time. I'm really going through it and this video was just so helpful. So THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this info and being so genuine. I definitely subscribed and look forward to binge watch any other videos you have out lol. You're voice is just so aesthetically pleasing and comforting. I really appreciated this video. :)
Crazy to me that I just stumbled onto one of your videos randomly one night and come to find out you're located not too far from me, I'm in North NJ! Pretty cool. I checked out your Instagram, love your work.
Thank you for this video! I graduated from my esthetics program in June, and I’m licensed now and trying to work with lash extensions and tinting. I love it but I’ve had such a difficult time getting clients to come in, so I’m excited to use your tips and hopefully see my clients grow!
I’m starting cosmetology school next fall and you have honestly helped me so much and made me feel so much more confident about going in and coming out of school! 💜
Great advice! I’ve been a stylist for a while but took time off to be a stay at home mom, starting over in a new town has been hard. My page visits (Instagram shows this for business account) tripled overnight!
Thank you so so much! As a new stylist coming into this industry, this is a great educational video on how to grow your books using social media like IG! I’m also from a small town and is very competitive, but these tips WORK.
Hello ☺️ I am a hairdresser from Norway and I love your videos and thought this video gave me a lot of great tips ❤️ I run my own salon at the age of 21 and love it, but this video really gave me inspiration to get better on social media 😁👌🏼 Love your personality and continue the good work ❤️
Wow! I loved this video a lot! It wasn't just another generic "lemme tell you what to do to get #k followers or $k", but instead preached the truth with helpful tips. I do nails right now and am in a rut because I just moved to a new city and am trying to start doing nails on my own (not out of a salon) during covid and it's been hard finding clients :'( I started making TH-cam videos to try getting that creative energy out though lol. I listened to everything you said and I can't wait to apply this to what I want to do. Thank you so much
Oh my freaking stars! You have such an incredible head on your shoulders. There are people in this world that you meet or come across where you just know they are destined to become a breakout star in their profession. In almost every case, you know because they know the secret to big-time success---there is no secret. It takes dedicated hard work, and you are showing us all just how thorough you are with your career. I have never done anything with my salons on just a whim, but if you showed up tomorrow at one of my salons, and you had the same presence that you do on your videos, I'd hire you on the spot and fast-track you into salon management. My two main managers are both Sassoon Academy trained and have done work on major stars. The only impediment in your way is your current location. I am sure that you can become a quarter million dollar stylist in the future, and if you decide to move to a hot zip code, like Austin, Las Vegas, Nashville, or Charlotte, you will end up living in your dream house with your dream car and your dream soul mate. I left a small Midwest town 28 years ago.
Wow! Thank you so much!! That means a lot! I would like to move in the future, once I have more experience under my belt (and savings - lol). This comment really made my day and inspired me, so again, thank you!!
@@styledbysamvay, I don't just give compliments to YT sites. You are uniquely special and so intelligent about your approach. If I were your age again, single, and aspiring to be a star in the business, I'd take a short trip to Nashville, where I have already lost three stylists to in the past year. All three are with upscale salons, and one has already picked up a major celebrity client. It is the reverse Grapes of Wrath. I should know about that city; I left there in 1991 to seek fame and fortune in WeHo. Now, I return to Nashville often, as I am here today to be with family for the holiday weekend. We have family that celebrate Easter and others that celebrate Passover. Every time I return here, I see what WeHo looked like 30 years ago. This is the town for young professionals to move to and become stars, just like LA & NYC were at one time. Let me also recommend Sunlights Balayage with Candy Shaw. It's the hottest thing I have seen in the past 10 years, and Candy is a great person. With your outgoing personality and ability to talk like a national TV correspondent, you could easily become a trainer and supplement your income teaching others. Good luck and Happy Easter or Passover depending on which holiday you celebrate.
I’ve been trying to add my address but for some reason everytime I try to add the city/state it either shows nothing or “no results found”. Not sure why but I always had my salons name in the bio. Oooo I miss having the crossings so close😭 lols. I should go next time I visit my mom. The 1 a day post is where I struggle. Taking pictures in the spa can be difficult so I’m always editing to lighting in all the photos
Wow. I got a 5 star salon and been doing hair for 20 years and I'm not even booked out but I don't pre book my clients or rebook them also im pricey...
I feel you with stealing posts! I just started selling products and this one girl straight steals everyone’s posts! I work very hard on my captions. Well the other day she straight stole a picture I took of MY HAND HOLDING THE PRODUCT! No credit 😠 I resent a picture with my name in the middle of the pic for my watermark so I’ll get credit! It’s so rude when others steal- sure I don’t mind helping others but you shouldn’t be using others to make money for yourself because you’re lazy. She admits to stealing posts. I change my wording so it sounds like me at least! Thanks for sharing these tips!
I’m in beauty school and struggling to get people to message me for appointments. It seems like no one will help when I ask for help and it makes me feel like I wasn’t cut out for this industry
Hey Sam, thanks for the video. I have a question...if the only people that see your IG posts are your followers, how do you attract new clients from that if potential clients aren’t following you?
Thank you for this information. I am a stylist that has been doing hair for many years . Are there places we can network and get some help on creating a business account?
Keep in mind, your client list won't grow overnight, and it also might not be steady growth. I would have some weeks where I'd be really busy, and the next week I'd only have one or two clients. Sam Vay great
True, as cosmetologist we all have our cycles/seasons... Which I definitely experience...

Such great advice! Slow and steady wins the race. Be calm and put in consistent effort. Great video!
Watched your, "I quit my corporate job" video prior to watching this video. This video really shows the benefit of your communications degree.

Thank you.

Hey Sam, thanks for the video. I have a question...if the only people that see your IG posts are your followers, how do you attract new clients from that if potential clients aren’t following you?
