In 2003, Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano State) called Gov Shekarau after the latter won the elections thereby unseating Kwankwaso. After the call, Kwakwanso drove to the house of the Governor-elect and had dinner with him. In 2014, Kayode John Fayemi of Ekiti State conceded defeat very graciously despite having tangible information about how the gubernatorial elections were rigged. He gave a TV broadcast calling for calm and congratulating Fayose on a criminal defeat. Concession is not new, even on the African continent. From Benin Republic's Kerekou (1991), Zambia, Somalia, Senegal (Wade, after some shakara) so let us not fall over ourselves in extolling the most inept president Nigeria has ever had. The only thing this president managed to achieve was making elections freer and fairer. Had he taken a silly step like his schemes concerning votes in the South, His rigging of the election of Nigerian Governors' Forum, his drunken state at the AU anniversary or the message he sent Obanikoro, Omisore, Adeshiyan and Fayose to deliver in Ekitigate, he would have rubbished whatever image he had left. The bus that picked Charles Taylor up would have been waiting for him. He may have prevented riots but let us not pretend that he did not do it to save himself.
Class class act Mr. Jonathan. A victory for African democracy!
