I've been playing for a while and never understood this stuff always just play by ear or tabs. This made so much sense and brought it all together. Thank you!
My kids got me a bass last Christmas so I have been reading books and watching a lot of you tube videos trying to learn as much as I can. I have learned a lot up to this point but this video is the GLUE that holds everything that I have learned together. This ties everything that I know together and gives a reason for it all. You are the man.
Brilliantly explained. Thank you so much! As I've been applying more ghost notes and rhythmic interest to my playing I've realized that I could play almost any note in any song provided I generally resolved on a chord tone and now I know why.
This is the lesson that clicked everything in place for me. I ve heard some of the things here and there before, but it was always a bit disjointed. This lesson builds it from the ground up very clearly, I finally understand where all things fit and why to learn them. Thank you so much!
Best lesson ever, not only bass related, best lesson of my life, so clear so well explained. "If you cannot teach it to a 6 years old kid then you did not understand it"
You’re doing a really good job . Very clear, even if, not being a great bassist and not being English, I have to come back several times to listen again. So useful. Thanks
Yours videos seriously help me understand this all. Been avoiding all of this information for a while because it seemed like so much but these videos really help
Very good lesson. Beginners get to be very happy today. Congratulation Mark ! This lesson make me think that next step of this lesson should be a series of lessons about CHORD FUNTIONS. and would be awesome if you make a Funtion dissection of any chords in the most important scales used. Mayor, minor , Armonic and melodic scales. To get a clear idea of which is the function of all those chords in the different scales would help a lot. Another group of lessons that would be great would be explaning about EXTENSIONS that works and the ones that does not work explaning why. I hope you time in any moment to work on those suggestions, the Bass guitar community will be grateful to you for ever ! thanks a lot Mark. You are the best.
whats the story on that green sr.... is that an sr300? or is that an older sr that i do not recognize? i myself use a sr 600 with a natural finish. What is that other pickup you added in the middle?
It's an SR1000. Bought it in about '92. They were really popular back then. It was my second bass after using a Westone Thunder Jet for a few years. There' s only 2 pickups. That's a ramp in the middle. Helps with 4 finger picking and gives a more even surface over a wider range.
By far the best video about the fundamentals of bassline composing on TH-cam. As a self-taught bassist this channel is like treasure to me.
Dude! I've been self taught for a long time now and just from watching a few of your videos I've become so enlightened.

This channel is a gold mine, best bass teacher on TH-cam
